View 3 Replies View RelatedI managed to get recognized my Trendnet TEW-424UB wireless USB adaptor with ndiswrapper. Now I have the configuration problem. When I try to do the configuration in Yast, in network devices -> network settings and I save I get a message that I must install the "iw" package. Because the computer is quite far from wired networks I can't get it on Internet to download the package automatically. So, I want to ask if it's possible to install this package off-line because I can't find it by searching on OpenSUSE website.
On this computer I use OpenSUSE 11.2 32-bit with KDE. I put some commands if someone wants to know how I manage to get this USB WiFi adaptor to work (with the Windows XP driver sis163u verison 5.1.1039.1050):

Everything worked fine. My computer was working too, but my internet wasn't. Since it works on the original kernel, I know that maybe it's something I was supposed to install as part of "make [variable]config" The network icon is there, but it doesn't connect automatically as 2.6.39.3 does if that helps as a part of the description.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10. I was unable to connect to the Internet with Firefox or to download packets using command line or Synaptic Package Manager, or run updates. I disabled IPv6 in Firefox and am now able to browse, but I still cannot connect to repositories, I cannot download packages, I cannot run updates either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do a net install with the latest release of debian - but my ethernet card is not recognized/the drivers are not available because I have a card that requires a linux kernel version of 2.6.35. This is obviously a problem because I can't download any additional packages, and I can't update the version because I'm not able to connect to the internet. I have installed it, but it's only text (which I assume is because I could not install the graphical interface, correct me if I'm blaringly wrong here). But it automatically changes to "chrome://browser-region/locale/region.properties" in some hours or the next day and I cannot search using the address bar. I have to change it back again to make it work. This is really annoying.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on an HP desktop. I listen to a lot of music and sometimes I can't always find what I want, so I use Nicotine+ (a Soulseek client) to find more obscure stuff. I also use it because it lets me see what bit-rate the files are.Today I entered in the search bar: "the tired sounds of stars of the lid". I would get search results, but I would also get this nasty little message in the logbelow:"pynicotine.slskmessages.FileSearchResult unpack requires a string argument of length 4"After many of these messages show up in my log, Nicotine+ immediately closes.I have absolutely no idea what's happening here.

However I can't write my videos into DVD from the Pixela image utility which is the default bundle software distributed with the camera. View 1 Replies View RelatedIt can be summed up by saying the internet works fine some moments then becomes so laggy a few minutes later it is completely unusable. This is what has happened so far. First I went to scottrade trading platform, it takes real-time quotes of stocks and graphs them, allows you to see account information. It was working amazing for about 20 seconds, then out of nowhere the internet just stops working on it completely and wont come back. Then I tried WCIII. The patch would not download at all. I couldn't even manually get it. Then 3 minutes later I try it again and it starts making progress.
Ubuntu update files are downloading the slowest I have ever seen before. I went to ....., the videos download really fast for a few seconds then they just stop. No progress at all for at least a minute or so and then they crawl back to making progress. Web pages I visit work fine one moment, I go back to the exact same page a minute later and it doesnt work at all, takes a few minutes just to load.
Any time I've tried to run 'yum search' or 'yum info' I end up getting a error "database disk image is malformed"

I am, however, able to update and install software without this error occuring.
I've tried the 'yum clean all", "yum clean metadata", "yum clean datacache", and rebuilding with "yum makecache", but still this problem crops up. As I understand it, the error message comes from something possibly not having been updated properly in one of the sqlite databases that yum stores information in. I probably could fix it if I knew which sqlite db that 'yum search' and 'yum info' hit.
I have totally exhausted my search to find IPBlock. I use it on my other Ubuntu machines but for some strange reason I cannot find it anywhere for my Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick. I know where the iplist is but not the actual file IPBlock download
View 2 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately far for all unicode characters can be displayed in Fedora by default, (much less than in M$ Wnd). There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

Ubuntu seems to boot up the exact same regardless if I choose version 21 or 24. Dont recall the exact kernel since I am not in front of my computer now.
I'm about to make the switch to Ubuntu but what's holding me back is Liferea. From what I've read it's by far the best RSS reader but I'm having three major problems with it...
1) I am trying to get Liferea to download podcasts that I subscribe to. I've set my download folder in preferences, and I've set the feed to automatically download enclosures in the advanced tab of the feed folder. Nothing is downloading, why?
2) I want the 'Unread' search folder to display all feeds from all subscriptions (read or unread) apart from those in the Podcast folder I've created. How do I do this?
3) I read an article in a feed and delete the article. When the feed updates, the article returns - how do I keep it deleted?
I've kind of ignored this until I had the major parts of my ubuntu said up. During videos I cannot click on the little bars to move ahead in the video this happens sometimes in ..... and in other stuff. Also if an add that like stretches onto the screen comes up I might not be able to click exit. In both cases my mouse thing turns into the little hand for clicking but it doesn't work.

It works, except for video problems : - when I want to read a DVD, I can very well see and use the menu (where it is proposed to watch the movie or choose a scene), but when I launch the movie, theplayer stops. It happens with both VLC and Movie Player (I have not yet tried other player). - If I watch a video on ..... (or other websites), it is OK when I watch it embedded in the page. But if I want to put it full screen, the sound is still OK, but the image is frozen.
