I opened a video in ..... by using Mozilla browser. It gave me option to install additional plugin "Adobe flash player" and I accepted it. I checked it in Ubuntu Software Centre and it is installed but now its not working?
View 2 RepliesI have Fedora 11 x86_64. I always apply all updates as soon as the Software Update applet announces them. I recall that there was an update for yumex recently to version 2.9.7. It is very nice because it now remembers the window size. But it used to display installed packages with the check box ticked. That feature seems to have disappeared. This makes it difficult when searching for something. For example, a friend who also has Fedora 11 was having difficulty with bluetooth. Since it is working fine for me I wanted to search on "bluetooth" to get a list of all packages that I have installed so he could be sure he had the same packages installed. I got a list of packages but there was no way to tell which were installed and which were not.

I just want a simple email notifier. I have started to use Ubuntu 10.10 and seem to have downloaded Gmailwatcher - it shows in Applications/Internet/Gmailwatcher. But it doesn't show as installed software in the Installed Software Centre. So, I cant uninstall it. I can't configure it? If I try to open Gmailwatcher I receive a popup asking me to open it from an icon above - but there's no icon there, I just want a simple email notifier - preferably one which I can add an audio alert.

Encountering several problems with ubuntu. I have managed to burn iso to cd - I decided to bot ubuntu off the cd, I have been struggling with a couple of problems all to no avail. I have heard ubuntu is pretty damn good, and I was quite enthusiastic about it. But if I can't get this sorted...
Oh I should also say I have never used a command line and I have not a clue about xorg or whatever you call it.
anyway my first problem is Display settings. I can go to System > Preferences > Display, and the largest I can set my resolution to is 800*640 and the monitor is unknown...?
Problem number 2 - the ubuntu software centre is not working... Applications > USC > Could not launch Ubuntu Software Centre..
Problem 3 - In the bar at the top of the screen beside time and date etc, "Crash report detected" keeps popping up?

I'm new to Debian and I have just installed it on three machines. To begin with they checked about 60 or so repos when doing an update. Then quite quickly this dropped to 48. I have removed the DVD media from the sources list after installation but that was before I saw this drop. It happened after an update as far as I can tell. I didn't think anything of it at the time. By the time all three were set up they were all only checking 48 repos. However I also have a VM, for trying out new stuff, and whilst that has been updated it still remains at about 60 (currently 59).

The gnome also mixer keeps reverting to external amplifier checked. To get sound every day I have to open that and uncheck external amplifier. Is there a way to make that permanent? I have never used an ext amplifier and this started with Lucid install, Also under the edit menu and sound card properties it has ext amp checked and if I uncheck it , it won't save and goes right back to checked
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem finding the resolution that will fit my secondary monitor(24). If I check "Same image in all monitors" I can only choose resolutions that laptop can display. I don't want laptop monitor to work when I'm using secondary monitor(I close the lid)...
If I want to uncheck "Same image in all monitors"(just to find the right resolution)...the system tells me to log out and back in again. When I do that, there's the same image on both monitors and the checkbox was automatically checked again...

The KDE Login Manager window seems to offer the option of turning off auto login, but it does not work. I have tried useradd and userdel but this only makes things worse.

The debian 5.0.8 ppc cd (regular and xfce) say invalid no of allocation blocks when checked. And when burned and booted with DEBCONF_PRIORITY=low cant load all of the addiotinal installer components, and wont retry. Is the debian cd supposted to be like that or is that a problem with it, i tried burning it twice and it had errors loading installer components both times when i booted them. Are my cds just the problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm just starting out with Ubuntu 10.10 on the desktop, (got VPS experience) and I'm running into an issue when installing Ubuntu 64bit. One that I'm unable to reproduce with the 32bit (x84/i368) disk. Just to note, the ISO's and disks have been checked with matching MBR.
I'm able to run the live CD on both versions perfectly. However when I press next after the 3th step of installation (The one in which you can choose whether you want to install updates and 3th party software or not), the Ubuntu 64 bit version stalls. Ubuntu doesn't freeze or anything, but it just doesn't seem able to go to the next step. (Partitioning)The odd thing about is that I can access the step perfectly on the 32bit disk. Now here is the question..... What could be the clarification for this issue and would it be possible to resolve it? (If so, how?)
P.S. Attached you can find a dxdiag output of the laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 7520G.
On my Linux box, (which is a proxy, webserver, mailserver, etc. etc. etc.) I use static IP's. Network manager is turned off, but when you do that Firefox ALWAYS has WORK OFFLINE checked. I could use Network Manager but that's not really the right way, cause I need the servers to work in level 3, etc. as well...Anyways, anyone know a way to make FF behave if I use Static IP without NM?

to the apt sources. (replacing cz as required for several other servers of choice). I tried this (using several different servers) from within Ubuntu Software Centre, but the usb_modeswitch never appeared. In fact (oddly) the source never appeared in the list! (Although I did have a look in the etc/apt/sources.list and it had added a line each time - there were several - I'd tried quite a few!!!) I did try downloading it but when it starts gdebi to install, a message pops up saying it is available (and better supported!) in a software channel.
I searched round a bit and found another reference to the package at

This time the sources were totally different and the apt line recommended was

When I add this it does add the line to the list of sources, but sadly I still cannot see usb_modeswitch after Software Centre has updated. In fact the number of packages available seems to go down from 2186 to 2179!
I suppose I could force the debian package to install, but I don't see why I can't get it to appear in Software Centre!
I should perhaps add that I have added other sources using the "apt sources" and that worked OK so I know I am doing the right thing.
I have been looking at the docs in the KDE help centre, but I prefer to store some reading on paper to refer to when away from the computer. So. I don't seem to be able to print from the KDE Help Center, since it's greyed out. Anyone know how to somehow get the docbook files out to my printer instead?
