View 6 Repliesmy Computer Sci friend cannot even fix this, so here goes... I need some kind of mtp or gnomad2 to let my creative zen x-fi connect with my linux so I can listen to mp3s in peace. But, if I try to use software manager, nothing downloads. It simply says archive manager as reason for failed download. I've tried deleting and re-installing the software centre. I've tried downloading what I need online. But neither have done anything.

yesterday I upgraded of my ubuntu release from 10.04 to 10.10 and now, when I plug my mp3 creative zen player it doesn't work.The same player works very well with 10.04 and I can upload my mp3s directly from rythmnbox using drag&drop.Here my /var/log/syslog

When I run Ubuntu Software Centre all I get now is one of two results:1. Ubuntu Software Centre starts up but with only a blank screen.2. Ubuntu Software Centre starts up but then seems to stall with a central circle icon whizzing around.either way, nothing else happens, i.e. it goes no further no matter how long I wait. And this is how he got the mic to work using alsamixer. I have seen many thread/posts on the internet about this issue.
I just installed a copy of Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday on a spare computer. I'm having trouble getting the front panel of my Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty to work. The sound card works just fine when I plug my headphones into the analog stereo output in the back. I'm not trying to do anything fancy with it right now like digital optical out or anything, just trying to get the one analog output on the front panel to work so I can plug my headphones in up front and leave the speakers plugged in the back.

Installed via links on skype.com (inc. mentioned dependencies on the skype website)Sound works fine but my webcam doesn't. It's a creative webcam instant model number: VF-0040.It works OK in Kopete, and is recognized as ZC3xx. In Skype the only webcam option is /dev/video0 which I can clearly see is not correct.

Suddenly it stopped working. Gnomad2 seems to detect the zen micro but it hangs when "retrieving metadata from jukebox". View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently i put a DAC connected to the CL X-FI board via the SPDIF interface. Result is i can listen only one channel, the left one (hedaphone) while using the xmms, audacious.
The thing is that i'm able to listen both channels if i use the VLC configured with the same output, that is hw:2,4.

Encountering several problems with ubuntu. I have managed to burn iso to cd - I decided to bot ubuntu off the cd, I have been struggling with a couple of problems all to no avail. I have heard ubuntu is pretty damn good, and I was quite enthusiastic about it. But if I can't get this sorted...
Oh I should also say I have never used a command line and I have not a clue about xorg or whatever you call it.
anyway my first problem is Display settings. I can go to System > Preferences > Display, and the largest I can set my resolution to is 800*640 and the monitor is unknown...?
Problem number 2 - the ubuntu software centre is not working... Applications > USC > Could not launch Ubuntu Software Centre..
Problem 3 - In the bar at the top of the screen beside time and date etc, "Crash report detected" keeps popping up?

When ever I adjust the audio with pulse my subwoofer and peeper get maxed out. Even if I only adjust the volume just a little bit the sound is blasted. I have confirmed this with alsamixer. What my question is, is there a way to have the master adjust both my peeper and subwoffer at the same time?
I can manually adjust each with alsamixer and if i make Master, PCM (peeper) and LFE (subwoffer) all the same level the sound is fine, but if possible could Pulse adjust all 3 at the same time keeping all 3 perfectly equal?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently switched to Ubuntu 9.10 from Fedora 12 because it was giving me problems, but now I've run into some problems with Ubuntu. I really only use my computer for internet and music, and I'm not really able to listen to my music.My computer is an HP Pavillion dv7-3060US laptop, AMD 64bit processor, 4gb ram, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 graphics chip and an ATI chipset (not sure which).
I have an altec lansing speaker configuration, with a built in subwoofer on the bottom. My problem comes that the sound is coming out of the subwoofer, not the actual speakers themself. When I try plugging in an external set of speakers, nothing happens, the sound still plays. Switching the device from "Interal audio analog stereo" to the other choices in my list does nothing (system>preferences>sound is the list im talking about)I'm able to hear music through my subwoofer when using totem music player, but neither rhythmbox nor amarok play any music. amarok doesn't play at all, and rhythm box shows the music is loaded but no sound comes out and it looks like its playing it at 2x speed.
I've attempted to follow the comprehensive audio problems guide here but I get to step 3 and the website isnt the same, so I can't continue.These are the outputs from the first few steps:

I installed Fedora 14 today, and have most things setup. However, I am not able to get my Creative Zen MX working correctly. After plugging the device into my computer, it gets automatically mounted ok, and I can browse it, however running mtp-detect gives the following:

No raw devices found.
Gnomad2 also does not find the device. I would like to get this setup so I can sync my songs / playlists.
The sound doesn't play through the main speakers, but instead plays through the subwoofer on the bottom of the laptop. The headphone/mic jacks don't work either. I've listed the relevant lspci -v code in my other thread, but I'm not sure what other information is needed (like I'm trying to find the exact sound card I have so I can google around for a solution but since everything in laptops is so specialized I don't really know what to look for).
I do apologize if this question has somehow been answered elsewhere but I've waited 2+ weeks for a response and have gotten nothing. Also, I tried following this sticky thread but the link it refers to in step (3) under general help does not work, so I cannot proceed with any of the directions.
I am anxious to resolve this problem as I just discovered compiz-fusion and it just makes it even more fun to be loaded into my Ubuntu install, and I'm anxious to make the full-time transition to Ubuntu but I won't be able to do that if I can't play music.

UPDATE and FIX: Problem was fixed after upgrading to ALSA 1.0.22 using instructions from this topic: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137
NOTE: be sure that ALSA driver was really updated using this commmand:

I searched the interwebs for confirmation that the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer audio card worked under Fedora 12 with no success. I read it 'should' work, so I took a chance and purchased one to find out.
I can confirm it works without issue on Fedora 12. Just wanted to post this information in case anyone else wanted to know.
I have sometimes use my PC for games, thus i need EAX support from this. Linux X-Fi drivers works well, exept it's prevent my system to go S3 standby. If i do blacklist snd_ctxfi suspend works after reboot.

One of the hardware problems I am having is getting my Creative Soundblaster 5.1 Live card to work with Fedora 14. I have been looking for a driver and as of yet have not found one that works well. Do you have any suggestions regarding this so I can do some site development on this machine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am unable to boot my laptop in the usual way. The fedora emblem in the centre of the screen appears and starts to turn from white to dark blue in the usual way. When it is almost complete it stops.
In order to make the machine boot i hit escape and a message says leaving interactive startup mode. At this point the machine continues to start up.
When i do manage to get it to boot i get the following message repeated many times:
I should also add... The laptop will not close down, once i click switch off the screen turns blue and displays the fedora emblem in the centre. At the top right text says "Shutting Down" but at this point the system hangs.
for several weeks now I have been looking for a particular file, probably (but not certain) a jpg, that I used for the label of a cd that I made in 2005. Since then I have migratedhrough numerous Fedora versions and from hard disk to hard disk, and now I have almost no recollection ofhat the filename is. In addition, there's a chance that some file data might have been lost when I copied from hard disk to hard disk. The file might even have been deleted (though I kind of doubt it). Can anyone suggest good ways to find it? I want to ideally find the exact same image because I'm trying to do a few more copies of the cd, and I think I used (gack) Windows labelmaker software when I did it back in 2005. Now I'm trying to redo it in Linux only. But I feel lame if I have to end up using a different image for the cd than the one I used before.
I've found some of the songs I was working on at that time, liner notes, etc., and I've looked through folders with files I thought were done at similar times, etc., etc., but short of running "find / -name '*.jpg'" and looking through each and every file I am wondering if there are other ways to locate it
is there any way of selecting several programmes for installation at once in the software centre, like in earlier versions of Ubuntu? I have to install about 150 things, and one by one is time-consuming!
