I've tried the same USB drive on two other laptops - one netbook and one mobil workstation - and both of them boot into the Netbook Remix. Is there any rational reason for this or???
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am making the switch to Linux and I really love Ubuntu. My DVD player isn't working, so I'm using my flash drive. It was too small for the desktop installer, so I used the netbook. I'm installing it as I type this (having the browser thats available for browsing while installing is awesome!)
Is there a way to upgrade to move to the desktop version after I finish? Also, what's the difference between the two. Links are fine. I tried google, but my google-fu must not be too strong today.
Theres no option to install netbook version of ubuntu so which should i get ? the ubuntu 11.04 desktop version is sooo slow as it wwill only let me install 64bit

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm brand new to Linux and Ubunto 10.04.On the menu bar at the top of my desktop I seem to have attracted some kind of bug!The Log Out Symbol repeats itself across almost the entire menu bar and I cannot remove it. If I remove other buttons from the menu the space is immediately replaced by more Log Out Buttons. When I hover on the icon I get the message 'Log out of this session to log in as a different user' and when I right-cllick to click on 'Remove from Panel' or 'Move' nothing happens. It is not possible to right-click on another part of the menu bar to change the Menu Properties.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have an Acer Aspire One D250 netbook with Windows 7 Starter Edition, and I've decided to load Ubuntu 9.10 on it.
I put Ubuntu on my JumpDrive using this , and then began following the instructions from here, and I got to the part where it wanted me to enter my Boot Menu by holding F2 to enter setup... but it sent me straight to a menu that only allowed me to boot from Windows 7 or to run a Windows Memory System Diagnostic. Advanced options by pressing F8 only allowed me to change how Windows 7 started, but no where in the setup does it allow me to enter the boot menu and tell it to boot from my jump drive.
I'm not sure if it's a limitation on my model, the OS, or if I'm am missing something obvious. I've beaten Google to death, but the only thing I have gotten from there are topics on people trying to boot from XP versus Windows 7 on a duel partitioned hard drive, or people who's laptops won't start up at all.
I also tried running the "Help Boot from CD" that came on the jumpdrive, but it said there was a system error and that it could not install properly.
I decided to try ubuntu on my netbook and it seems to have set up well other than I cannot see any wireless connections. I can't click on connection information. The blue light is on, indicating that my netbook's network card is on.
is there another version that would work better with an hp mini? Otherwise the netbook is rather pointless
I'm using an Acer Aspire One with Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3. I couldn't find any directions on how to dual boot with a netbook or more specifically my netbook.
Edit: Here's alink just incase [URL]
I'm not exactly a computer pro. I had copied Ubuntu netbook on to a USB with the program given at Ubuntu.com. I plugged it in and booted it via F12 on my Alienware M17x and I chose to try it. When I selected to try it, it wouldn't work at all and I sat there for about an hour. I turned the laptop off, and now it says I'm "Missing" the OS. Which means my Windows 7 is gone.
My friend had told me to do something with Gparted, but it didn't help. He did say that my files could possibly still be there (which would be AMAZINGLY awesome. I just wish I could get things back to the way they were yesterday. I need to know what is wrong with the partitions though, since I think that the errors are related to the partitions. It is a Solid state drive. My priorities are:
1. Save my files (if they are there still) to an external HD
2. Re-install Windows 7 (if needed)
3. Install Linux alongside Win7
I had the desktop version of ubuntu installed on my netbook previously. Then I got the 11.04 update which changed my desktop to what I think is the netbook version of ubuntu, which I highly dislike. Is there any way to change it back?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running maverick netbook remix on an asus1015pe eeepc. I recently switched from the unity interface to "ubuntu netbook 2d" - the one they say resembles the 10.04 netbook interface. I really like it - fast, crisp, and intuitive - but there's one thing I'd like to change, if possible. Right after login, there's a full-screen translucent menu that covers the 1st workspace. If I wait a few seconds, I can make it go away by clicking the "desktop" button in the bottom left, but is there any way to make it so it doesn't appear at all? so that after login it goes right to a clean desktop.
