View 9 RepliesI'm trying to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One A0751h, but when I boot from my USB drive (I have multiboot ISO) I only get Ubuntu Desktop 10.10. I've tried the same USB drive on two other laptops - one netbook and one mobil workstation - and both of them boot into the Netbook Remix. Is there any rational reason for this or???

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running OSX Tiger (10.4.11) here on my trusty old G4 MDD with a "giga" 1.4gig CPU accelerator and doing quite well with it actually.I have discovered Gimp and Inkscape and love the open source concept.I registered only a few days ago, and have been lurking around to see if I can get a look at Ubuntu in action.Would it be possible to install some version of Ubuntu on a partition of one of my internal hard drives and be able to boot it, using the option key at power-up time?I guess this would be called a "dual-boot" situation. If so, can someone provide a link as to what to download.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am making the switch to Linux and I really love Ubuntu. My DVD player isn't working, so I'm using my flash drive. It was too small for the desktop installer, so I used the netbook. I'm installing it as I type this (having the browser thats available for browsing while installing is awesome!)
Is there a way to upgrade to move to the desktop version after I finish? Also, what's the difference between the two. Links are fine. I tried google, but my google-fu must not be too strong today.

I'm using an Acer Aspire One with Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3. I couldn't find any directions on how to dual boot with a netbook or more specifically my netbook.
Edit: Here's alink just incase [URL]
I'm not exactly a computer pro. I had copied Ubuntu netbook on to a USB with the program given at Ubuntu.com. I plugged it in and booted it via F12 on my Alienware M17x and I chose to try it. When I selected to try it, it wouldn't work at all and I sat there for about an hour. I turned the laptop off, and now it says I'm "Missing" the OS. Which means my Windows 7 is gone.
My friend had told me to do something with Gparted, but it didn't help. He did say that my files could possibly still be there (which would be AMAZINGLY awesome. I just wish I could get things back to the way they were yesterday. I need to know what is wrong with the partitions though, since I think that the errors are related to the partitions. It is a Solid state drive. My priorities are:
1. Save my files (if they are there still) to an external HD
2. Re-install Windows 7 (if needed)
3. Install Linux alongside Win7
I had the desktop version of ubuntu installed on my netbook previously. Then I got the 11.04 update which changed my desktop to what I think is the netbook version of ubuntu, which I highly dislike. Is there any way to change it back?

I downloaded the Ubuntu Netbook edition [URL], and doing the same as before I wanted to select the " install them side by side" option. View 6 Replies View RelatedSpecifically, I want Clementine player 0.6, but the guy that installed Ubuntu on my laptop put natty narwhal alpha 1 on it (don't ask me why. I wanted maverick since its stable but he never really asked. The whole thing was kinda a surprise), and Clementine only offers downloads for Ubuntu distros up to maverick. So. Can I/is there a way I can install it anyway? Or am I forced to just use Banshee until the official Update comes out and Clementine is updated in....

The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.
