Aug 3, 2009I tried installing the Netbook Remix, but it ran horribly (I don't know why either, system monitor was saying both my cores were 90+%, but no processes were using over 10%. I have an E2160 dual core pentium @ 1.8Ghz each, and an 8600GT and everything else works fine with a normal installation. Anyway, does anyone know what packages that can create the sleek menus from the netbook remix on a desktop?

Mar 22, 2010Have downloaded the image twice now and burned it to CD twice. This is a brand new HP 6530b. It will boot to the CD and come up with the ubuntu install menu. I can arrow up and down, but when I press enter on any entry nothing happens. The CD will spin momentarily but then stop. Been trying to make this work for two weeks.

Jul 10, 2010I installed Ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 and it ran fine. However, the boot menu is hidden and by default it always boots into Ubuntu (I don't know.. maybe the timeout was 0). I wanted to switch to a different kernel so I compiled a new kernel and installed it. But upon reboot it would always boot into the old kernel. So I updated grub and made the new kernel the default.
Now the new kernel is givine me a kernel panic and I can't access my system because the grub boot menu doesn't show anything (just boots into the newly compiled kernel and gives me a panic message). I don't have a recovery cd/usb. Is there a way for me to somehow slow grub down or show a menu? Pressing esc at boot doesn't help.

Jan 18, 2011I am having trouble installing Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix edition onto a Acer Aspire one netbook. I am attempting to install the OS from a 16GB PNY usb drive w/ the usb-universal installer and ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix .ISO
The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.

Firstly my question is, is it ACTUALLY possible to 'overclock' this type of netbook to run a higher res?
Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...

Mar 7, 2010For the past 2hrs I have been struggling to make KDE launch plasma-dekstop instead of plasma-netbook, but all in vain.I removed, then purged plasma-netbook and plasma-netbook-default-settings packages but after logging out and re-logging in the Netbook UI was back! After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?

Jul 12, 2010I installed the Global Menu Bar applet for my top panel, thus removing the menu bar from most, if not, all of my apps on Ubuntu. I removed the applet, mainly because of how God-Awful and inconvenient it was. Now, I don't have any menu bars on my apps!

May 8, 2011Netbeans menu doesn't go on global menu. It stays in application. Well, OK, I can live with thatAfter dragging anyting inside Netbeans (windows, menus, ETC), Unity Launcher stops dodging windows and autohiding. It just sits on the screen. It starts to behave normally only after I restart Netbeans. Now- that's pretty annoying.EDIT: Even worse: If I exit Netbeans during debugging session, I must exit Firefox as well before launcher starts behaving normally again. Now, that's entirely unacceptable. Good enough reason to remain on "Ubuntu Classic" (what's left of Gnome that is), and eventually switch do different distro or even... ungh... WAMP.

May 1, 2010I'm just coming back to Ubuntu after last seeing a GNOME desktop almost a year ago now. Just installed the new 10.04 version on my EEE 1000h with little to no problems. However, since then I've been kinda lost. Is it just me, or has Ubuntu been changed substantially over the last two distributions?
1) How do I change the netbook remix desktop mode? I like the left menu design, however I like the traditional desktop even more. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the desktop mode switcher anywhere.
2) Where is the grub menu.lst found? Looked in the /boot/grub/ folder and it doesn't seem to be there anymore.
3) Where's my multi touch? Do I have to install a package or configure a setting somewhere? With Jaunty it was a simple install and play. This time it doesn't seem that way at all.

Jun 12, 2010I know this is a long shot, BUT Is there any way to implement the Netbook Remix 10.04 GUI into Windows 7? As in basically making Windows 7 look and act like the GUI in Remix. I love the GUI, and if it's impossible, I'll just suck it up and dual boot, the 30 gb Win7/XP partition is bugging the crap out of me. Just wondering if there was something out there that made this thing possible.
And for the record, I'd switch back to full linux when my card is supported in october =P

Dec 1, 2010I can't delete anything on my Ubuntu Netbook remix. Every time I click something, it just opens automatically. There's no way to highlight it to then hit the delete key. Right clicking does nothing.

I used a 4GB Sandisk pendrive and changed the BIOS so the netbook booted from the pendrive, but all it did then was go to a black screen with white letters across the top saying Syslinx and a bunch of info kinda like copyright info.

Jan 5, 2010I have tried several times installing ubuntu netbook remix on my netbook and have followed guides step by step but it dosn't work (screen goes black, flashing hyphen). Only thing i might be doing wrong is using an external 320gb hdd that i had previously formated to fat32 instead of a usb pendrive. Is this the problem, note i dont have a pendrive large enough.

Jan 12, 2010i was in the process of trying to put the latest version of netbook remix on a flash drive (2gb Kingston), but failed mid-process. I had forgotten to format to FAT32, and thus ran into problems in the middle. I'm now left with a flash drive that is partially written to, and completely write-protected. And I can't get rid of anything on the flash drive. Nothing I've tried (Killdisk, re-formatting, MS-DOS) has helped me erase the flash drive permanently (every time I try Windows returns the message that the device is write-protected). Neither can I re-run the USB installer, which I downloaded from the pendrivelinux folk.
Either in erasing my flash drive completely, and starting again -- or in re-doing the making of this flashdrive into a boot disk for the netbook remix version of ubuntu.

Jan 19, 2010i am currently running ubuntu 9.04 gnome and would like to switch to netbook remix before i do i just need to check my hardware will work:
512mb ram
sis 650 vga graphics
1.4ghz intel pentium 4 processor
is this ok to install and would any graphics run ok or could i switch them off so it would run smooth. is there a way to upgrade to 9.10 and netbook remix can i order a free ubuntu netbook remix cd? i am using a laptop not a netbook i want netbook remix as it looks and is very clean and simple and would be a really nice change from the boring gnome theme no offence. finally can you turn it off just if you need to use a normal gnome desktop.
