I tried installing the Netbook Remix, but it ran horribly (I don't know why either, system monitor was saying both my cores were 90+%, but no processes were using over 10%. I have an E2160 dual core pentium @ 1.8Ghz each, and an 8600GT and everything else works fine with a normal installation. Anyway, does anyone know what packages that can create the sleek menus from the netbook remix on a desktop?
View 1 RepliesHave downloaded the image twice now and burned it to CD twice. This is a brand new HP 6530b. It will boot to the CD and come up with the ubuntu install menu. I can arrow up and down, but when I press enter on any entry nothing happens. The CD will spin momentarily but then stop. Been trying to make this work for two weeks.

I'm not a huge fan of netbook remix, and I find it really doesn't add a whole lot to my netbook experience. I was quite surprised when setting up evolution and empathy to find a number of the windows didn't fit on my 1024x600 screen.As such I would like to put normal Ubuntu 10.04 onto my netbook. What would be the easiest way to do it? Should I just install it from a LiveCD, or is there a better way?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 and it ran fine. However, the boot menu is hidden and by default it always boots into Ubuntu (I don't know.. maybe the timeout was 0). I wanted to switch to a different kernel so I compiled a new kernel and installed it. But upon reboot it would always boot into the old kernel. So I updated grub and made the new kernel the default.
Now the new kernel is givine me a kernel panic and I can't access my system because the grub boot menu doesn't show anything (just boots into the newly compiled kernel and gives me a panic message). I don't have a recovery cd/usb. Is there a way for me to somehow slow grub down or show a menu? Pressing esc at boot doesn't help.
I have tried several times installing ubuntu netbook remix on my netbook and have followed guides step by step but it dosn't work (screen goes black, flashing hyphen). Only thing i might be doing wrong is using an external 320gb hdd that i had previously formated to fat32 instead of a usb pendrive. Is this the problem, note i dont have a pendrive large enough.

Can I install the netbook remix without windows? All the instructions talk about putting it onto a flash drive and using Windows. Can I just use an external CD drive and install onto a new partition? If so, will it handle all the GRUB dual-boot stuff on installation or will I have to do something special for that?

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing eeePC1000 with Xandros installed and investigating installation of Ubuntu, especially seeing that there was a netbook version. Have had some problems creating a bootable USB, but followed a thread on the netbook forum that I think will be useful. Before going ahead I wanted some advice on a few things:
- does the Ubuntu OS install over Xandros or is there work to be done post install to clear Xandros out?
- if i want to keep using Thunderbird, StarOffice etc. as supplied with Xandros can I install these to Ubuntu?
Sorry if above all seems obvious: sites I've been to, or books are great at telling you about how good the OS is and how to install but nothing on what happens to the old OS.
I am having trouble installing Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix edition onto a Acer Aspire one netbook. I am attempting to install the OS from a 16GB PNY usb drive w/ the usb-universal installer and ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix .ISO
The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.
Why i cant change from 800x480 to 1024x600, that this model of EEE pc doesnt support anything higher than 800x480 at the 10:1 ratio...
Firstly my question is, is it ACTUALLY possible to 'overclock' this type of netbook to run a higher res?
Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...
I am trying to install Ubuntu Netbook on an iiView A2. I realize this is not necessarily supported according to the Ubuntu documentation, however, one of my friends who has the same netbook was able to accomplish this with no issues. The computer boots up from the USB just fine, I get to the menu and choose install Ubuntu. I see a cursor flash on the screen for a second and then the Ubuntu logo. Immediately after seeing the Ubuntu logo the screen goes black (or blank) and I get no HDD activity (or any other activity). I have let it set for quite some time but it does not appear to be doing anything. This same kind of thing happens when I choose Try Ubuntu without installing from the initial menu after boot.how to install from the command line and edit xorg.conf later?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past 2hrs I have been struggling to make KDE launch plasma-dekstop instead of plasma-netbook, but all in vain.I removed, then purged plasma-netbook and plasma-netbook-default-settings packages but after logging out and re-logging in the Netbook UI was back! After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?

I'm an old user of Ubuntu/Linux but have stumbled across my first major problem in years. I just can't get my head around it.I own a Asus Eee Pc 1005HA it has roughly 160gb and is currently running WinXP. I'm trying to install the latest Netbook remix 10.04 onto the machine as a dual boot option.I've loaded the iso onto a usb drive and everything works perfectly. The problem is during installation. I can't work out how to set up the partitions for a dual boot option. Below is the current configuration on the system.

I would like to use the free space as my Ubuntu installation. Can anyone advise me on the best way to install this without affecting my WinXP system.
I have tried using UNetbootin to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Toshiba NB205 and am having no luck. Both it and Kubuntu NR will boot from live USB and seemingly install successfully, but when I select the Ubuntu option, it hangs and drops me down to BusyBox with initramfs.
When UNR was distributed as a .img file, I could use Canonical's USB image .exe to prepare the USB drive and it always worked like a charm, but now UNetbootin fails me all too often. I don't really have access to another Ubuntu box to run usb-creator with, so has anyone had any success with any other install method? I am dual booting with Windows 7.
i tried to install ubuntu netbook remix edition 10.04 on my laptop HP Compaq 550 through a usb flash stick ... with the usb creator which included into the iso image i got this msg (( attached screen-shot )) .i tried another application which makes a usb bootable disk called "UNetbootin" it boots successfully but after booting every thing got FREEZED ... i tried the same thing with ubuntu 9.10 it's succeed .. but i neeed to install 10.04 .

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm just coming back to Ubuntu after last seeing a GNOME desktop almost a year ago now. Just installed the new 10.04 version on my EEE 1000h with little to no problems. However, since then I've been kinda lost. Is it just me, or has Ubuntu been changed substantially over the last two distributions?
1) How do I change the netbook remix desktop mode? I like the left menu design, however I like the traditional desktop even more. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the desktop mode switcher anywhere.
2) Where is the grub menu.lst found? Looked in the /boot/grub/ folder and it doesn't seem to be there anymore.
3) Where's my multi touch? Do I have to install a package or configure a setting somewhere? With Jaunty it was a simple install and play. This time it doesn't seem that way at all.
I have this mac mini laying around. It runs leopard fairly okay. I was wondering if it would be able to run Ubuntu netbook remix. I figure it would run fine, I'm not exactly sure though. I just want to get it running so my brother has a computer to use.

As in basically making Windows 7 look and act like the GUI in Remix. I love the GUI, and if it's impossible, I'll just suck it up and dual boot, the 30 gb Win7/XP partition is bugging the crap out of me. Just wondering if there was something out there that made this thing possible.
And for the record, I'd switch back to full linux when my card is supported in october =P
