Ubuntu Multimedia :: PACPL - Pearl Audio Converter - Convert Wav Files To Wma Files ?

Jan 30, 2011

I have installed this program ok but I am new to command lines in terminal.

I want to convert some wav files to wma files. I have the wav files currently in a folder called Test to make it easy. So I have entered the following command line:

ajpearson@ajpearson-laptop:~/Desktop/pacpl-4.0.5$ pacpl --to wma home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test and the error message I get is:

error: the following is not a file or directory: home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test

It does not matter what directory I use I get the same error. I am sure the answer is obvious - but not t me.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Change MP4 Video Files In A Directory To MP3 Audio Files?

Apr 29, 2011

What would be a nice, simple command to go through all files in a directory (no sub-directories), and change all the MP4 Video files I have to MP3 audio files (keeping the original filenames except for changing the "mp4" extension to "mp3")?

The files in question were videos taken with one of those Flip cameras, but I only need the audio off of it.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: MKV Files Audio/video Out Of Sync?

Mar 29, 2011

I put all my dvds on my "media center" by converting them to .MP4 with handbrake.

Recently I saw that with a MKV file you could do soft subtitles. I tested a part of a movie, and the audio and video are very out of sync.

With MP4/burned in audio everything is ok...

Edit: Ow yes I'm using XBMC for playing it. MP4 + MKV files are both H.264, they have the exact same settings except for subtitles...

Weirdly Enough: I tried another video and at this one the audio is in sync....

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Burn Audio CD With Ogg Files Using GnomeBaker?

Apr 4, 2010

For the longest I have been unable to burn an audio CD that contains ogg files with GnomeBaker, and have always had to decode to wav manually. Well I'm tired of doing that, so want to get to the bottom of the problem. Upon adding an ogg file to the file list, the error I receive is:

"The plugin to handle a file of type audio/ogg is not installed." I have all the gstreamer0.10-plugins-[base|bad|good|ugly] packages installed. I can play an .ogg file with rhythmbox.

Using gconf-editor, /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/profiles/cdlossy is "active" and the cdlossy profile is listed in /system/gstreamer/0.10/audio/global/profile_list At a loss on what I need to do.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Batch Convert Audio In Video Files?

May 8, 2010

a movie is encoded with AC3 in 6 channel audio, what I get out is all of the sounds except for voices, which in 5.1 would be sent to the center channel. What I usually do is fire up avidemux and convert the audio to mp3 stereo, as converting to a 5.1 format usually ends up with a very odd sound (like running everything through an echo chamber). What I'd like to do is run a script to batch-convert these files from AC3 to MP3. The video format may vary, but they are usually XVID. I am comfortable at the command line, but I am not well-versed in audio/video tool terms. I don't need anything extravagant, I just want something that works. Heck, even if it is done one at a time, having a shell script that I can use to simply type:

tool.sh inputfile.avi outputfile.avi

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Many Small Audio Files Combined Into One Long One?

Dec 26, 2010

I have several audiobooks that are each split into many small chapters, and I would like to string together about ten of them at a time, so that I don't have 60 4-5 minute mp3 files per audiobook. If I were to do this all by hand, with audacity or something similar, it would get very tedious, so I'd like to know if there's already a program that would do it for me when told which files to string together.

Software :: Creating Chapters For VHS Tapes Being Copied To Disk?

Mar 13, 2011

I have read similar threads, googled, and an idea of what might be required. Hopefully someone here has actual experience and can detail their methodology. My setup is: Two boxes running Slackware 13.1 (not 64) with current patches. One has a Hauppauge pvr 350 card. The other has a Hauppauge hd-1600 card. I have old VHS tapes of pre-school graduations for kids now in their thirties. Since this project has no DRM issues lets say all my video programs use standard Slackware build scripts. I am comfortable modifying and running Slackware build scripts. The collection of video programs includes ffmpeg, HandBrake, VLC, Kaffeine and avidemux2. Currently on the box with the 350 card, I use the S-video in & line in to capture the output of a super VHS player. Because this is a slowish box I was having sync issues and finally wrote a script that

[Code]...

still have to know when to hit the enter key so an old tv is also hooked to the VHS player. So now I have an in-sync file nearing 6G which gets transferred the next morning [read that is the reason it's done on the slower box] to the faster box. As others in the household have a number of apple products the final file extension will probably be .m4v. I am slowing moving away from that as it is easier to stick a laptop running VLC with hdmi out on the tv then it is to go thru apple's home sharing. Another story entirely so lets not argue that topic merely say .m4v is not cast in stone. Depending on the time length of the tape, I would like to create 10 to 15 chapters in the final product. So there you have it. What steps to you use to create a final file with chapters. ps Yes the script should really check that $1 is numeric however I am/was the only user.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Banshee When Streaming Audio Files From A DAAP Share?

Jul 9, 2011

I've got a small problem with Banshee that I need some help with, if possible. I'm currently using the latest version of Ubuntu 11.04 and it's up to date. The problem i'm having is with Banshee playing music files over my DAAP share. My DAAP server is running Firefly (mt-daapd), and Banshee can see the server and shares just fine. It loads the song list from the server, but when I select a song to play it just sits there. Rhythmbox works just fine, sees the share and plays the songs ok (which is what i've fallen back to for the moment), so I know it's not a hardware or software problem from the sound "system".

Other features of Banshee play just fine, including internet radio stations, internet archives, and importing songs from the server (which makes the song local instead of networked from a single source). Ok, so streaming from the DAAP share isn't working; here's the output from the terninal I started Banshee from:

[-----START-----]
[Info 07:13:23.440] Running Banshee 2.0.0: [Ubuntu 11.04 (linux-gnu, i686) @ 2011-06-28 05:46:57 UTC]

[Info 07:13:28.998] All services are started 4.668005

CentOS 5 Server :: NFS Clients Not Seeing All Files In Export?

Dec 9, 2009

We recently upgraded our NFS server from Centos 4.4 kernel 2.6.9-42.0.10.plus.c4 to Centos 5.4 kernel 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5

In our queue directory where we shuffle files to be processes some files will go missing.

Example structure

/Queues/Process1/subdir_xxx
/Queues/Process1/subdir_xxx
etc...

/Queues/Process2/subdir_xxx
/Queues/Process1/subdir_xxx
etc...

Where 'xxx' is a date/time string down to the second.

Each subdir entry contains a number of files, depending on load at the time.

What we see happening is that a subdir will appear empty from a client (ls -la shows . and .. ) but an rmdir will fail with a 'directory not empty' error. From all 7 clients (mix of Centos 4 and 5). However on the server the files are visible. If we 'touch' the files the clients will then pick them up and process them.

It doesn't appear that waiting any amount of time will make the files visible (we've waited 8 hours while testing).

We've tried different mount options, NFS4, etc. Nothing got rid of the issue. Changing one server to use CIFS however solved it. So it appears to be some bug in NFS.

The problem appears to be intermittent and random, we can go hours without seeing it, or minutes. I'd say it affects fare less then 1% of the files written.

Server :: NFS Export Giving A Computer Access To Root-owned Files?

Oct 8, 2009

Yes, I know this is not a good practice, and this is only a short-term solution.I have a server with a web-file-server daemon running internally as root, so the permissions for all files it transfers/creates have a uid/gid of 0:0.This is fine for the daemon, but I would like to manage those files from another workstation - actually a few workstations on a very limited LAN subnet - through NFS. How would it be possible to have users from a certain subnet mount NFS with root read/write abilities?I have seen the anonuid/anongid options (for the /etc/exports file), but I'm not so sure this is the right way to go.
