A client of mine has a 7.7G .pst file, every time I try and import it into outlook so I can import to Thunderbird, it breaks due to the size, as Outlook can't handle files bigger than 2G. Is there anyway I can import this file into Thunderbird without having to use Outlook?

It seems clunky the way that I have done it, but it is free and it works!First download and this Free Converter to convert *.mbx into *.eml If the link is broken, it came from [URL] and you just have to find their link to the mbx to eml converter.
IN LINUX
1) Open Evolution
2) Highlight the emails that you wish to convert, CTR+A for all in folder
3) R-click and "save as" and call the file anything you want with an mbx extension (example: inbox.mbx) - note: you may need to save this somewhere that Win/linux both recognise as Windows refuses to recognise drives formatted by linux. ie. save on a drive that has been formatted in FAT32 or NTFS
IN WINDOWS
1) Open mbox-eml-extractor.exe (the free converter, probably in your downloads directory)
2) Click "Add" and select your *.mbx file that you saved
3) Click "process" and select the output directory (I just created one on the desktop)
4) Open Microsoft Outlook Express NOT OUTLOOK!! It comes free with your windows install
5) Open the directory that you saved the *eml files (the "process" ones) and drag n drop into MS outlook express
6) All of your emails should show up in MS Outlook express now
7) Click File->Export->Messages
8) You will not be given an option where to save it but if you are curious, go to Tools->Options and click the Maintenance tab and the "Store folder" button to see the path
9) After it has exported now open Microsoft Outlook and click File->Import and Export and select "Import Internet mail and addresses" and press next. Choose "outlook express" etc and follow the bouncing ball so to speak.
10) You have managed the frustratingly and seemingly impossible. Now if Evolution soon gets an export to pst (or whatever the extension is) we won't need this thread anymore
I have a client how likes windows 2000, and office 2000. Her outlook box got too full and that totally killed outlook. Msft provides tools to fix this, but none of them work. I managed to switch her over to thunderbird, and I got the messages transferred over, but not the address book - only the email addresses transferred. I can not export outlook 2000 into office 2002, and I don't think office 2007 will work either. I have heard of transferring the addresses into outlook express, and then transferring to outlook. Will that work?

I know there must be others here who have dealt with this frustration, so I'm hoping to get a convenient workaround.My strategy so far has been to make an Outlook rule that immediately copies every email to a PST file (for export). This is the first rule that runs. The pst file is kept directly on network filespace, so the linux and windows sides can both get at it. On the linux side, a pst to mbox converter runs, and then emacs can access the mbox mail.
It all works, but it's cumbersome. The script must periodically move the PST file and immediately copy an empty PST file in its place. I would have appreciated it if Outlook would only handle the file when adding mail to it. The problem is, after I replace the file with an empty PST file, Outlook pukes, and even deactivates the rule for copying emails. So I must manually close Outlook, empty the PST file, then relaunch Outlook just to run the rule to copy email.Is there a way to use cygwin or something to launch outlook in the background, run outlook rules, and exit, every 10 minutes?
I searched in forums but I couldnt solve my problem. I copy my pst files of outlook on windows then I completely remove windows and set up ubuntu. I made all my configuration on thunderbird. I can send and recieve mails but I could not import my old mails from outlook to thunderbird.

I have an Outlook 2007 PST file that iam trying to import into Thunderbird/IceDove. Based on what google told i tried readpst, it gave me the following error

I've finally got all my accounts the way I like them in Thunderbird. I'm using IMAP and so don't have to move the emails, but how do I migrate my account settings to my other computers? The other machines are running WinXP.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 11.04 about 10 days ago. I have this intermittently weird problem where some of the applications, some of the time, are oversized for the 1024 x 600 display. I can't get to the buttons on the bottom end of the screen, and the window refuses to decrease in size enough so that it all fits on. So far, I've had this problem with Evolution, Pytrainer, Gimp, and another one that escapes my memory.
Has anyone else had this issue? (Except for the Evolution bug, which has been around since 2005 or thereabouts. How on earth is that thing still the default when nobody bothers to fix it up?) how to a workaround? Heck, I don't even know where to go to report this kind of bug.
I have been trying to import e-mails saved in a file with tab spaced values from outlook. When I import the files into evolution it puts them in my address book. I have tried several times and haven't seen any options to change. in the "wizard" it asks me where i want to put the files, but there is only one option.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE on my macbook pro 7,1. As of now I am trying to update the software, unfortunately, I have encountered a problem. As I hit the "Install Updates" icon, I get a window that gives me a readout of the current updates. No problem there. However, after I click the "Update" button, a second window pops up that gives a very long list of other software that needs to be either removed, installed, or updated for the original updates to be installed. Only problem is the list is so long, it extends beyond the visible desktop. This is a problem because I cannot click on the button to install those updates. The window cannot be re-sized, so there is no way I can reach the button, and I have even tried rotating the desktop 90 degrees (to make it longer), but still to no avail, as the install button is out of reach even then. I don't know how I can update the software if I can't hit the right button. Is there perhaps another way to get around this (like with terminal)?

I have tried using OpenOffice to produce this list of numbers but it keeps crashing when I reach a certain point. So I was looking for some help. I need to see if someone could either help me with using a script or program to export these numbers into a .txt file or if someone could just make the list for me.

I have a CSV file, which I created using an HTML export from a Check Point firewall policy. Each rule is represented as several lines, in some cases. That occurs when a rule has several address sources, destinations or services.
I need the output to have each rule described in only one line. It's easy to distinguish when each rule begins. In the first column, there's the rule ID, which is a number.
Here's an example. In green are marked the strings that should be moved:

View 2 Replies View RelatedThanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
I just dl'd Thunderbird and its working fine with my Hotmail account however I'm having some problems with my Gmail account. I can send emails thru gmail just fine but when I click get mail, the error message: Unable to locate mail spool file pops up. The server settings for this account are Server Type: Unix Movemail Server Name: Local Host Username: (my gmail email - @gmail.com) I think this is all set up right, it did it automatically for me.

I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
I am doing an analysis with postfix, qmail and sendmail analyzing its performance.I need to send mail of size 10 MB, 50MB and 75 MB and analyze the time taken to send each mail to different users.I first used telnet, but file attachment is very hard there.Then i went for thunderbird but the file attachment size is just 5 MB. So is there a possibility to send such huge file size?

My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
I have just downloaded Thunderbird and I'm trying to install it but whenever I try to run the "thunderbird" file it just runs and it doesn't install. How do i install it properly?

Here is the catch, it MUST be able to sync with my Google calendar. Because I use an android phone that syncs with Google. I would love to totally leave windoze behind me.Maybe I can use Wine to install the entire 2007 MS office suite into Linux?
