I am running 10.04 on an old computer. I can watch netflix videos, but there is no sound. I tested the speakers on another computer and they work. That leaves either the sound card, or something about 10.04. How do I debug this?

View 7 Replies View Relatedso here's my problem. I am trying to install windows xp on my computer in virtual machine so i can watch netflix on my computer. The disk will not start up, if I restart and try to boot from load i just sits there and says boot from cd. The disk drive plays music cd's fine, so i dont really know what the issue is.
I dont know that much aboutut ubuntu. a tech friend put it on hard drive he gave me after mine crashed. also i should ad that i took the disk to someone else's house that haswidnows installed and the disk worked just fine, so its not a disk problem
I've got an eeepc 1101ha and have installed the latest ubuntu, 10.10, but i can't watch any videos! Besides the original player, i have installed and tried to watch videos in VLC, SMPlayer and GNOME MPlayer but it has always some kind of error. In VLC I can hear the sound. On all others the file simply doesn't work.

yesterday i upgraded my ubuntu to 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx, and today i faced with a problem watching videos on the Internet. i already tried reinstalling the Adobe Flash Player i have in many ways... nothing helped and i actually think it isn't even related to the flash player... what can it be, and how can it be fixed?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to find a way to watch videos from my main desktop computer on another computer I've plugged into an HDTV. I'm such a Linux newbie that I decided to give Mythbuntu a try. It was way to complicated for what I needed, and I'm sure that some more experienced people reading my first two sentences laughed to themselves at my naivety.
What I am trying to find is simple: browsing one computer's home folder from another computer, and playing the videos therein. If there's anything like Mythvideo that requires less than half of the skill requirements, I will telepathically send love to the person that informs me of it.
I have set Audio Output Module to ALSA, but there is not sound either. Same result with AviPlayer, video but no sound. The log of AviPlayer is:

I had good working installation of Fedora 12 x86_64 on my desktop, but few days ago, during watch movie in mplayer, sound disappeared. Till today i can't figure out, what happened - no errors displayed, no changes in configuration and no sound (both KDE and Gnome).
I checked soundcard in ubuntu live cd and it works fine. Also on login screen in my current Fedora 12 "beep" plays when i choose user, but after this i have no sounds.
I have up to date system, pulseaudio installed (i tried to remove it, but with no effect - without it also no sound).
Strange thing is, that sound disappeared during normal work, not after update or install anything.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirefox started acting funny.On most video sites, but not all, there wouldbe no sound.Along with this, some of these sites would also have the glitch that videos would play for about 3 seconds, then stop. If I moved the slider to a different point in the video, it would again work for a few seconds, then stop. If I close FF and try to reopen, I get an error message that it is already running, although if I don't leave it openet that message.I then go to the system monitor and shut down the sleeping FF process, and can then restart FF and the problem is fixed for a few hours.
