Ubuntu Multimedia :: Syncing Lights To Music Videos ?
Mar 18, 2011I would like to do is as the subject says, I want to take a music video and then sync several light channels to the music video.
I would like dimming control of the lights as you would have with a DMX 512 system or even Midi. In which the light programming is done in a choreographed sequencing pattern, much like many Midi "piano roll" based editing software.
In a nutshell I would like to do what the Windows program "Vixen" Christmas lighting control program does, but within Linux AND for videos. Sadly Vixen doesn't support syncing to video's at this time...only audio. Another thing is that Vixen also doesn't work with Wine, so it is a no go in Linux.
I would hope that by now there is some kind of video program that does permit syncing to external output devices.
Ubuntu :: Firefox Freezing Videos, No Sound?
Feb 24, 2010Firefox started acting funny.On most video sites, but not all, there wouldbe no sound.Along with this, some of these sites would also have the glitch that videos would play for about 3 seconds, then stop. If I moved the slider to a different point in the video, it would again work for a few seconds, then stop. If I close FF and try to reopen, I get an error message that it is already running, although if I don't leave it openet that message.I then go to the system monitor and shut down the sleeping FF process, and can then restart FF and the problem is fixed for a few hours.

Mar 19, 2010If I try playing ..... or other streaming video I have no sound. It used to work and then my dumbA$$ tinkered with it and now I have restored Flash, which was working flawlessly, don't know where my head was at but it was dark and smelly.
EDIT: I have Ubuntu 9.10 and my sound card is an nVidia Corporation MCP61 High Definition Audio (rev a2). I tried to follow along with the instructions in the sticky regarding the

FWIW, my speaker are on and they play music, system sounds etc, just no sound for streaming video. Pandora works fine etc. Also, this is isolated to Firefox, as it works fine in Opera.

Jun 11, 2011Chromium is not playing any sounds with video (....., etc.) Sound output on my system is working fine and working fine with firefox embedded videos. I have uninstalled and installed and tried changing other settings with no resolution.

Feb 3, 2010This is true for .flv, .avi, .mov, and .mp4, at least. This is true in both vlc and movie player. Thumbnails generated from frames in the videos appear correctly in nautilus. Videos play fine in firefox, on ....., but I downloaded one as an .flv and then it had the same problem. I have restricted extras freshly installed. My "Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala" system is fully updated. I've found several other forum posts about the same kind of problem, but I couldn't find anything helpful in them (like that the contrast setting might be WAY out of whack, which it wasn't, or that nvidia drivers needed to be updated or reinstalled, which I don't have anyway, etc).

It fixed itself!Later on, I go to play another flash video (after not using anything with sound at all for a bit) and I don't get any sound again! Opened DVD,no soundBut I opened a song and I have sound there still. Kubuntu still plays a sound when loading KDE and emptying the recycle bin.It hasn't moved itself from the no sound stage again yet. I installed about 24 hours ago.

Aug 14, 2010I am running 10.04 on an old computer. I can watch netflix videos, but there is no sound. I tested the speakers on another computer and they work. That leaves either the sound card, or something about 10.04. How do I debug this?

Aug 29, 2010I recently upgraded to Lucid 10.04 from Hardy 8.04, and since then I have no audio when watching You Tube videos in Firefox. I checked the sound preferences and I have sound in other applications, but not for You Tube. Oddly enough, I get sound on You Tube just fine using the Chrome browser, but it's not my preferred browser and I'd really like to get it working under Firefox. In another forum, someone suggested doing a "sudo apt-get install alsamixergui," but that didn't help.Is this some sort of Firefox bug? I googled the problem and others have reported it as such, but I cannot locate a fix. Anyone? Thanks in advance.

Jul 31, 2010I am having problems: videos have sound, but no picture.I'm using a Gigabyte motherboard with integrated ATI video, and I've read before that XBMC (and Ubuntu in general) don't like ATI too much. Is there any hope left to make XBMC work?I've tried the following:1. Fresh Ubuntu installation, default ATI drivers. Result: when starting a video, audio is okay, but no video. Also, visibly slow graphics even while navigating XBMC menus
2. Installed ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX driver via System->Hardware drivers. Result: significantly accelerated menu navigation, but no video still. Note: having no problems watching videos via VLC or Totem Movie Player (after downloading proper codecs)3. Fresh Ubuntu installation, then downloaded and installed ATI's proprietary Linux drivers from ATI's site (ati-driver-installer-10-7-x86.x86_64.run). Result: yippee, I see some video, but wait: no color!! (all videos are in sepia-like mode)
4. Followed these instructions to install the unofficial ATI drivers. Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Play Videos - Only Getting Sound With A31G Motherboard
Aug 6, 2010I'm testing a rather old motherboard (PC-Chips A31G) with both Ubutu Karmic and Lucid, everything seems to work fine but video playing.
I tried flv, mp4 and mpg with both mplayer and totem, but I can only get sound with no video, well, not a black screen but a deformed image (I don't attach an image because every attempt to capture the screen gets a black or transparent video).
I already installed ubuntu-restricted-extras package witho no luck.
What I don't understand is that, if I switch to another motherboard (using the same HDD), everything works perfect. I guess it's a problem with the motherboard's video chipset, but would like to confirm this and know whether there is a solution.
I attach lspci output for the A31G motherboard.

I assume there is sound from CERN as there is a volume control shown on the player.

I have the Shockwave Flash 10.1 r102 extension installed in Firefox. I also tested in Chrome that also had the flash plugin and I still had no sound.

All video and sound functions worked properly prior to changing to Linux Mint 10. Now I can not get any sound out of the speakers, from a CD or a digital file, and a video goes at super fast speed with no sound. I am new the Linux world but learning fast. Apr 25, 2010running kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.

Sep 13, 2010This could be easy but I obviously don't find the way myself, so I'm asking.I have esd running on a small device (router running OpenWRT).This has a large harddrive and a soundcard attached via USB and I'm using it to play my music via mpd, which also runs on this little device.Can't use pulseaudio, which would be better I suppose, because pulseaudio is not available for OpenWRT latest, so it's got to be esd.Playing the sound of movies I watch on my laptop through this device also works.I use mplayer and its esd-output - works nicely.
What I miss and want to do is:direct all sound from my laptop to esd on the above device.Specifically I would like to hear the sound of flash clips like those on ..... or metacafe through the nice speakers attaced to the device rather than through my laptops really low quality speakers.What I've done to get mplayer to output the movies sound through esd is:I just set the ESPEAKER environment variable to the IP of the router - and run mplayer with -ao esd.I also set the default audiosink to be esdsink - but this appearently has not the desired effect.Would I need to have esd running on my laptop?

Oct 22, 2010here's some background info: purchased a brand new netbook last week (samsung n130) and thought i'd set up a dual-boot to accompany the pre-installed windows xp sp3, and after a bit of research i decided upon installing ubuntu as my preferred linux os, which i believe at the time was and still is version 10.10.
but the problem is: when i attempt to watch flash videos (from videos for example) the video streams fine, but the audio is very jumpy and skips back and forth every few seconds. occasionally there are periods of say 10-15 seconds where the audio is ok. the problem exists on both firefox and chrome, and is exclusive to ubuntu. keep in mind that i'm an absolute novice when it comes to linux/ubuntu, etc.

Apr 7, 2010I just got my hands on an MSI E7235-295US and slapped Ubuntu 9.10 on it. So far everything's worked great, but I am beginning to get a bit concerned about my sound quality. The laptop itself has 5 speakers + subwoofer so I should be getting 5.1 sound, if I understand things correctly (the newegg link should provide more details) and when I play anything (music, flash, videos, games, etc...) the sound comes out 'muffled'. Almost as if it is in a concert hall, maybe. I initially wondered if the problem is related to the 5 speakers and if the sound is initially only setup for two. If that is the case, nothing I've done has seemed to made any real difference. I've tried changing the master/pci channels, but it only hides it a little, and doesn't solve the problem.
This seemed to be on the right track, but the laptop is still really new and not listed in the alsa file.

Aug 3, 2010I was just using the mic and watched it stop working suddenly. I was in the middle of a skype test call when the graphical mixer level died down to zero in the middle of the call. When the test call was played back, the first part sounded fine then the sound got lower until it became inaudible. Since then I can't get any sound from my mic in skype.
Also, the audio input level graphically shown in Sound Preferences shows no fluctuations in sound as it used to before. The input device is enabled. I tried using Sound Recorder to record some sound clips and that worked fine. So the mic is working but Sound Preferences and Skype seem to have the mic level really low. I'm not sure what else to think considering it was working perfectly a few minutes ago. I've tried restarting, but that didn't fix it either.
