Ubuntu :: Can't Show Or Block Stuff In MoBlock On Live USB

After some difficulty I got MoBlock and Mobloquer installed on my Ubuntu 10.10 live USB. Lists all updated perfectly, and I made sure that HTTP and FTP traffic are not allowed. All's going well, still it shows nothing under the "Logs" tab, and under the "Manage" tab, "Number of blocked connections: " is still 0. MoBlock is "up and running". Now I did some browsing as a test, cuz I'm pretty used to Peer Guardian on Windows, and I know that by now it should have blocked quite a lot of stuff. Should I have "No time stamping" checked, cuz in the "Blockcontrol log", whilst struggling to get it working, it said that "notimestamp" was a depreciated feature.. or some thing like that anyway. It still shows nothing under the "Logs" tab, and it shows "no blocked connections under the "Manage" tab still.

Moblock is blocking my teamspeak server... only some of my friends cant connect so I assume their ISPs are in the blocklists... I've tried whitelisting TCP IN and OUT for 9987 which is the default port... but still no luck..

I have installed moblock, moblock-control and mobloquer from the AUR, however I am unable to start moblock. Mobloquer launches fine, and will update the blocklists fine. However, upon clicking "start" I receive the following;
Problematic Deamon status: 1 Moblock is not running* what do i do??? please help me i have tryed loging in as root and i maked it for compleat removal? then i reinstalled it but it still gives me the same error
it was working until i changed my MAC on wlan0 when i go to MoBlock status: this is what it says

For the past couple of day I am unable to start moblock. I am getting :* moblock is not running* blockcontrol.wd is runningI searched the forums and found a reference to IPfilterX being the cause of this problem with IP addresses starting with leading zeros and moblock not liking this format. Despite how many different searches I made using forum and using google in general, I am unable to find anything to this ipfilterx as in either how to disable it or modify the format (if possible)Can someone direct me where to look. I am quite lost. I am not even sure if this is the source of my problems. When I start blockcontrol while watching the log with tail -f, I see no error messages but when I check the pid file, the PID in this file is not running immediately after start process completes.

I have installed MoBlock as instructed here: [URL]
After installation I created my own list file in /etc/blockcontrol/custom-blocklist.p2p and have the following uncommented at the bottom of /etc/blockcontrol/blocklists.list:

Recently I just noticed that the locallist rules seem to have no effect. I will always get "destination port unreachable" even if the locallist entry in blocklists.list is commented out.
However, whenever I try to browse to that IP, even when blockcontrol is on, even by typing the IP into Konqueror (not the domain name), it lets me go there every time. How can I know that my other applications will not to do the same thing? How can I lock this down and test it empirically to be sure?

loops that during install. new hard drive fresh out of box. WD 320GB 7200 Toshiba Qosmio intell core duo i've installed with this same disk before previous hard drive died. installed over windows vista. this time im trying to install solo no windows disk to reinstall with, F10 only. I've tried other distros as well, Mandriva one 2009, Dreamlinux, and this one. i've suspected hard drive controller went out but i can format and partition the drive. also the cd/dvd drive is bad but im booting from cd fine. tried removing the cd drive and booting from an external usb cd rom, same errors.
im about to deploy and need my computer up and running ASAP. 7 months no entertainment is not good. when i use a linux boot disk from Ultimate Boot Disk (UBD) i get an error of - hda status no response and something about invalid heads dreamlinux pushes past the error till i get the error about cant start x server. about my graphics

Show me the content of your linux live cd running linux with it. (The thing is we are using a live USB, is it possible with a usb, how to do it, otherwise I tell everyone to burn a live CD, if it is possible with a live CD and not with a USB (= normally not loaded in bios in windows usb = plug&play).

I am booting from a USB stick live CD image of Kubuntu 10.04 Beta. When I run the installer, and choose the "manual select partitons" option, it lists only my full hardisk, whereas I have atleast 5 partitions on it, and none are shown. Could anybody help me with this? I want to install on one of the partitions and leave the rest intact. I am dual-booting BTW.

I have a Mac Pro 1.1 and am having trouble installing Debian. I installed rEFIt but it won't show my install and live disks at startup. I have very little experience with the command line but would be willing to try. I have installed debian to my pc and used the command line successfully there, but want the OS for my mac.

is there a command or utility out there anywhere which can output a countdown of upcoming jobs from crontab? So you can display the queue of tasks in the order that they'll next run.
Anything like this out there?
EDIT: I realise there's crontab -l but that just echoes out the contents of the crontab file. I'd like somehow to get a countdown.

the message on the title only happens with Ubuntu. In Fedora, it just stops booting from LiveCD with "WARNING: Cannot find root file system!". The rest of the symptoms are the same.I'm trying to install Fedora LiveCD on an IBM i Series notebook (model 1161-21X). It's a Celeron powered unit with RAM expanded to 512MB. It has a 10GB HDD, and an internal CD-ROM drive. Although it has two USB ports (1.1), it cannot boot from a USB drive, so no pendrive nor external CD unit solution possible.When I boot from LiveCD, it stops booting with the message above. Looking atsg, there's no CD-ROM driver loaded. Also, there's a char device for sg0, but no block device for it, so no way to mount it. It seems that the driver module has been removed from the kernel. I'm currently running Fedora Core 5 in it. This very same problem happens with any Ubuntu newer that 6 or any Fedora post 7.

Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!

I configured it to use IMAP to access our exchange 2010 server front end on a LAN connection. Our webmail connection is segregated behind Forefront, so it was not connecting/authing that way. Even though smartphones have no problem. (sidenote, is there an activesync linux mail client ?)
I have many root folders and several folders underneath my inbox. total mailsize in inbox is 3.5 GB without subfolders. The sent is likewise as large. And is likewise empty.

But thunderbird is missing calender
Tried adding lightening, but it won't add into thunderbird.
Will try finding a diff add on, or if anyone knows how to get lightening into thunderbird 3.1.8 on ubuntu 10 that would be great as well.

Just installed 9.10 and bloody loving it, Even though i love my Windows 7, This is just great learning all about Linux. Install was a breeze and installing normal apps are fine, but when we get to stuff like changing icons and stuff, this is just way over my head. All i want is icons that sort of look like MAC icons or Glass type icons, i downloaded a set from Deviantart and im that retarted i cant even follow the instructions...

2.different folder icons
1.-add a "Main Menu" to your panel
-run gconf-editor
-navigate to /app/panel/objects
-find a object_x with the "object_type=menu-object".
- tick up "use_custom_icon"
-type in "custom_icon" start-here1, start-here2, ... , start-here11
- if you doesn't like any of this icons you can browse here to an image of your choice
2.In this version I add some different icons for your downloads, documents, music,... folder.
-To use them you must unpack the tar.gz package.
-right click on the folder you wants to change and presspreference
-click on the folder icon and browse to the unpacked black-white2.tar.gz folder and go on to / scalable/places (sometimes /scalable/places/256)
-choose your folder and press open.]
These kind of instructions are way to advanced for a everyday windows user.. Are there any other easier guides out there to do this kind of stuff?

Packages installed with synaptic are usually well installed on your system (i.e. bin in /usr/bin/, etc.). However, when a software is not in the repo, I always wonder where I should install it, when everything comes together (i.e. /bin, /var, /man are all subfolders of the main folder of the software). For now, I've opted for /var/opt/ or /usr/share, but I'm not really sure this is a best practice... is there any guidelines on that?

I decided to install a game under Wine. It didn't work so I uninstalled it. The game still shows up under the Wine section. I tried going to the uninstall in the game folder and it said "Failed to change to directory '/home/user/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Program Files/Ubisoft/Gearbox Software/BrothersInArmsEiB/System' (No such file or directory)". When I go to Wine -> Uninstall Wine Software it doesn't show up, but the folder is still under wine -> Programs.
I brought up the directory and the folder doesn't exist. How can I remove it from the programs list under wine?

I just installed ubuntu server on a spare pc I have and I plan on hosting forums on it. I don't want to install the gui on it and waste resources as the pc is not all that new. But I don't know how to download things into the pc and store them in folders through the CLI. I just want to know an easy way to at least download webmin into it and I think I can figure out the rest. I know how to install webmin from CLI.

I've been trying to get full video card support for the following card Radeon HD 2400 XT Im running the new 10.04 and I cant seem to get the 3d stuff to work properly with compiz When I go to Administration - Hardware drivers it recommends the ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. Even after getting that installed I still cant get Normal compiz to work. I dont know if it is the driver or some other configuration.

Got a problem when I try to stream stuff off the net, such as watching ....., or listening to music clips.Basically, the internet just simply disconnects after a few seconds, or a minute at most after starting to stream - although it appears to be connected in the wireless icon thingymigig in the top right taskbar, eventually that goes though and says I'm disconnected.
While browsing normally, and using the net normally with messenger and looking throughwebsites,uploading/downloading via ftp, with no videos or music streaming, the net stays on - no problems.If I try to stream stuff from another computer running windoze 7, then these problems dont occur, the net doesn't disconnect and can stream till the end of time (or so it seems).Why does this happen just on the Linux machine?
