Software :: Why Can't Xorg Show Live Previews Of Minimized Programs
Jan 21, 2011My question is, why can't Xorg show live previews of minimized X clients? Mac OS X is the only OS that can, and I have no good idea why.

View 4 RepliesI have this little problem: when I open a folder with images from my network drive, I can't see the previews of the files. If the folder is on the local drive no issues, but with the remote one... no luck.I checked around for a solution, without results.. do you know if there is a solution for this little issue
View 4 Replies View RelatedMost of the times I open a program (either Evolution or Liferea) from the MeMenu, it appears shifted below. By this I mean that, even if the window is maximized, it does not reach the panel, leaving a strip where one can see behind. But, when one tries to click on anything, it behaves like if the window was in place. So, in order to click on some area, I have to aim some 50px or so above it. Of course this is not very comfortable. Stangely enough, this does no happen if I get the focus of Evolution or Liferea by some other means, such as Alt+Tab or clicking on the sidebar.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAnytime I open a window and then minimize it-poof it's gone! for instance when I minimize firefox or just about any other app it just disappears instead of landing into the panel as it usually does when minimized. Is this a KDE problem? I just tried to upgrade to 11.2/KDE on the net (that was a mistake.) I finally installed from Downloaded DVD (install version) and crawled back from upgrade hell.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Centos5.4
My applications, after minimized, seems to disappear from the desktop.
I can still access them using Alt-Tab.
In the taskbar setting, I have enabled "Show Application icons". But that does not make the icons appear
in the taskbar after minimized.
Any suggestions to show my minimized icons in taskbar?
Is there anyway that the Workspace Switcher can show Minimised Windows.I can see Maximised Windows OK but can't see if I have any minimised unless I do the Alt Tab move then they show up in the centre of my screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCan anyone imagine a way to set certain TTY's to show specific programs upon login?
If I were to log in under my normal account, it'd be cool if I could set one up to load top upon authentication, maybe watch tail /var/log/syslog on another, and so on.
I know they require authentication, but would there be a way to say on startup if isTTY and TTYnum=y and if user=x execute script z?
I accidentally deleted my panel that showed the active programs. I don't know how to get that back. Also, I had another question on top of that one. How do I get it to where the OS doesn't show the desktop when I move the mouse to the bottom left of the screen?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Opensuse 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4. When using the task switcher, only programs open on the current desktop are visible. I think it would be handy to have the Launch Bar work in the same fashion.
Is it possible to have the Launch Bar only show programs open on the current desktop?
i am using Ubuntu 9.10. I want to make a live CD with some programs installed i know i can do that by chroot ,etc. but i cannot re-download all packages again due to bandwidth limit. The packages i want to have on my live CD are already installed on my OS.(i usually clear the cache after installation to save disk space). Is there a way to transfer the programs to the live CD.
ps. all the programs are installed either by deb's or apt-get, none by source...
[URL] I'm currently running simplyMEPIS 8.0.15 (rel 32). It's booting automatically off a USB. The way I have it configured right now, it just loads right up without a root menu or boot-options, just basically going straight to "hey, u ROOT or DEMO?" I'm not sure if there's a way to get back to the bash and load directly to RAM at this point.
In another thread I was looking into burning backups from k3b as I run live because my DVD-player isn't behaving right now under windows... 'still working on that I want to get a backup done before I do a hard install. It's my goal to get either Kismet, wireshark, or Airsnort/crack/peek running on this machine so I can start gathering packets and doing analysis. Is that a way that (atleast for the timebeing until I can work out backups) that I can install any of these programs directly to the USB (by editing the ISO somehow?), so that they'll be available when I liveboot?

Show me the content of your linux live cd running linux with it. (The thing is we are using a live USB, is it possible with a usb, how to do it, otherwise I tell everyone to burn a live CD, if it is possible with a live CD and not with a USB (= normally not loaded in bios in windows usb = plug&play).
View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter some difficulty I got MoBlock and Mobloquer installed on my Ubuntu 10.10 live USB. Lists all updated perfectly, and I made sure that HTTP and FTP traffic are not allowed. All's going well, still it shows nothing under the "Logs" tab, and under the "Manage" tab, "Number of blocked connections: " is still 0. MoBlock is "up and running". Now I did some browsing as a test, cuz I'm pretty used to Peer Guardian on Windows, and I know that by now it should have blocked quite a lot of stuff. Should I have "No time stamping" checked, cuz in the "Blockcontrol log", whilst struggling to get it working, it said that "notimestamp" was a depreciated feature.. or some thing like that anyway. It still shows nothing under the "Logs" tab, and it shows "no blocked connections under the "Manage" tab still.

I have a Mac Pro 1.1 and am having trouble installing Debian. I installed rEFIt but it won't show my install and live disks at startup. I have very little experience with the command line but would be willing to try. I have installed debian to my pc and used the command line successfully there, but want the OS for my mac.

When I run the installer, and choose the "manual select partitons" option, it lists only my full hardisk, whereas I have atleast 5 partitions on it, and none are shown. Could anybody help me with this? I want to install on one of the partitions and leave the rest intact. I am dual-booting BTW.

By the way the thing i want to record will be here http://e3.nintendo.com.
Would it be rtsp://e3.nintendo.com?

is there a command or utility out there anywhere which can output a countdown of upcoming jobs from crontab? So you can display the queue of tasks in the order that they'll next run.
Anything like this out there?
EDIT: I realise there's crontab -l but that just echoes out the contents of the crontab file. I'd like somehow to get a countdown.
In Nautilus->Edit->Preferences->Preview everything is set to Always and the size for previews is set to any files under 100Mb of size.
Still I can't see any previews. I am trying to look at the icons inside usrshareicons but all I get is a little icon that looks like piece of paper with an analog clock on it.I gotta see the images without having to open image viewer every time.
I am trying to get this new install configured.
I searched for a previous thread but didn't really see one.
My image previews are trashed.
How is this repaired?
Pretty simple same as the title.I enabled them but I dont know out to disable them.

Show previews is checked. compiz settings: KDE Compatibility and Plasma thumbnails are checked output when running in window:
Quote:
# dockbarx_factory.py run-in-window
** (dockbarx_factory.py:1860): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype 'WnckWindowState' as enum when in fact it is of type 'GFlags'
** (dockbarx_factory.py:1860): WARNING **: Trying to register gtype

Edit: In all the threads about it, the selection Extras>Window Previews wasn't required. Selecting this under compiz-settings-manager worked for me.
Is anyone aware of an app that previews video files, i.e. by showing thumbnails, with or without an embedded player?
Running KDE4, the preview setting in Dolphin is very, very slow to render usable icons (even on my reasonably fast / beefy system) and I'm wondering if there isn't something better than the preview modes of file managers in general.
I STFW already and couldn't find anything - there are plenty of picture viewers and plenty of video players, but I couldn't find any video previewers. The closest thing seems to be mplayerthumbs, but if I'm not mistaken, that's just the preview mode built in to Dolphin.
