Ubuntu Security :: Seahorse Personal Key Import From Old Home Folder?

Jun 29, 2010

last week I decided to not just run dist-upgrade, but give the Lynx a completely fresh install. Before that I've only copied my home folder to an external hard-drive.

Now that I'm on Ubuntu 10.04 I have no clue how to import my old personal key and the passwords from the backup (my old home folder).

Ubuntu Servers :: Building PC For Sole Purpose Of Personal Proxy / Security Server

May 30, 2010

I don't care so much the practicality and needlessness of actually setting up a computer for proxy server for personal usage, but none-the-less, i want to do it, and i'm just wondering about hardware. The proxy, i don't intend on having a desktop environment, so it'll be a terminal interface. But for a system that will handle traffic for 3 pc's and a ps3, how much hardware would one suggest i need, as far as RAM, HDD space, so on and so forth.

I was thinking it would be fun to do with with my old amd k6-2 processor and it's 32mb of ram, but in order for that pc to work, i'll need to replace a few hardware pieces, and before i dumb money into it and pull it out of the closet, i want to find out if it would even be worth my time to do it.

Ubuntu :: Setup MediaWIki As Personal Wiki (pim)?

Jul 15, 2010

I have changed to ubuntu a few months ago from windows, where I used to have a mediawiki set up on a local server. This wiki was used for notes, archiving, document management, file storage, calendaring, almost everything that most people do with a normal directory tree on their drives.

Unfortunately, I have not yet managed to install a local media wiki on my ubuntu 10.04 LTS system so far. I have tried it once and messed up the php-stuff so badly that I had to reinstall the entire system in order for it to work in a acceptable speed.

how to set up a current version mediawiki (or an older version, if that's the only chance) as a local wiki in 10.04 LTS? There is no network access to the wiki, just local access using a firefox browser on the machine where it is installed.

Ubuntu Installation :: Creating A Personal ISO For Installs?

Nov 15, 2010

I've been installing Ubuntu on more and more systems for people. But I'm just doing the install from the the LiveCD download on the Ubuntu homepage. Once I do the install people want their desktop to look like mine so then I have to install Compiz and Cairo-dock and configure them both like mine. Is there a way to create a LiveCD or installation disk already pre-loaded and configured with Cairo-dock and Compiz. I'd also take off F-Spot and add digiKam, along with making sure a working version of Flash and Java are also included in my personal installs..

When I click on the contacts button in Evolution, and then click on a particular contact (in the personal contact list), I can't seem to modify the name or email; I can click in the boxes and cursor about, but no editing; the entire panel seems to be greyed out. I have searched a bit, but have not seen this particular problem addressed.

Ubuntu :: Looking For Personal Schedule Software Package?

Mar 1, 2011

I'm not looking for software that has any relation to CPU scheduling, but something more for personal use. I don't want to use Evolution, because I'm not looking to keep track of weekly repeating tasks on an annual calendar. It's not for business use, but something more applied to home chores or weekly maintenance of my car. Has anyone come across anything close to this? I'm out of ideas on where to search.

Ubuntu :: Set Up A Specific Folder On Box That Can Treat As Own Personal Dropbox?

Oct 3, 2010

how difficult it would be to set up a specific folder on my box that I can treat as my own personal dropbox. That way I can access the folder and whatever is inside of it by hitting my external IP, or domain, etc. It'd also be nice to upload to that specific folder on my box too. This is speaking from externally to the LAN.

Ubuntu :: Setting Up Own Mail Server For Personal Email?

Jan 4, 2011

I would like to be able to have email sent directly to my computer at home (i.e. run some kind of mail server on it) instead of having to rely on Gmail, Yahoo or someone else. From what I've read it should be possible, but most of the guides out there seem to be oriented to enterprise-class setups, or at the very least a small business, and I think that a lot of that would be overkill for just getting my personal mail. The minimum *I think* is

- register a domain name, with the DNS pointing to my public IP (which is dynamic, so one question I have is whether I would have to use DynDNS or is DNS at any registrar going to be flexible enough to modify if/when my IP changes?)- something about MX records (I'm really unsure here, what exactly are these and where do I set them up? I don't think a free DynDNS account lets one handle this, does someone know which of their account types supports setting this up?)

- Install sendmail and postfix (which seems like a PITA, but much documentation appears to be available)

- Profit?

Ubuntu :: Can Put Personal Files On Another Partition And Have It Mount In /home

Aug 4, 2011

I've been playing around with stuff lately, and I was thinking that I could theoretically move my personal files to another partition, have it mount under /home/User... then change the system partition to 6 or 7GB and go about my merry way...That way, if I need to reinstall the os, or when the next release comes out, or even install another primary system, I could just wipe the system partition and keep all my data on the HD...just make an fstab entry like:

Code:

/dev/sda3 /home/User btrfs default 0 2

or something, and them BOOM! it's done. I am the master of my domain.
