Debian :: SSL Certificate Constantly Changing

Apr 22, 2011

I use WLM (And yes, I realise odds are this is a problem on microsofts side) and almost every time claws mail connects WLM returns a new certificate. Valid, but I have to constantly accept or deny the certificate. Why is WLM pumping out fresh certs all the time and how can I fix this?

Whenever this pops up whatever I have at the moment shows "Signature status: No certificate issuer found" and the other shows "Signature status: Correct".

Hardware :: Apple Keyboard Constantly Changing Keycodes In X?

Feb 17, 2010

despite scorning the average Mac fanboy, I recently acquired a nice Apple USB Keyboard (aluminium model) which I admired for both design and quality. Unfortunately, Linux doesn't seem to like it very much - most importantly, the keyboard constantly keeps on changing keycodes and keymap, an issue I never had before. For instance, most of my bindings to close, maximize etc. lie on the "less" key (which is next to LShift on a German layout), but after every reboot, I have to reassign my bindings because either, it has traded places with "^" on a German layout (or "grave" on a US one), the key next to 1, or it has somehow changed its keycode and isn't recognized as "Less" any more, even though it kept its name.

Furthermore, most of the modifiers and similar keys like to throw a mixer dance, meaning that RAlt is suddenly Enter, Del is RCtrl, and so forth. All modifiers, the arrow keys, the block above them, all numpad non-numerical keys and Enter are involved. There seems to be no pattern or identifiable cause to this, except for when I start VirtualBox by VBoxSDL in fullscreen, it always does that (making me lose track of the Host Key, for instance). Also, after a while, the function keys seemed to be recognised - eject suddenly ejected my CDROM drive instead of executing its defined command, even though I never told it to. IIRC, no update to X preceeded this. As far as I can tell, all of these issues only appear in X, there is no problem on the command line. My system is a HP notebook (whose internal keyboard works a+) running a recently dist-upgraded Linux Sidux with kernel 2.6.32-1-slh.sidux and a fully upgraded X server with e17.

My keyboard definition with HAL is as follows:

<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbRules" type="string">base</merge>
<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbModel" type="string">pc105</merge>
<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbLayout" type="string">us,de</merge>
<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbOptions" type="string">grp:alt_space_toggle,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,compose:rwin</merge>

I tried various keyboard models etc. in e17s internal layout manager, but all of them end up completely mashing up my layout.

Ubuntu :: Windows Disappearing/reappearing, Constantly.

Apr 30, 2011

First post, so please bear with me...

All of my windows disappear for about a second, leaving only the desktop wallpaper showing, then reappear. I've noticed it mostly when navigating pages or clicking on bookmark folders (on the 'new tab' page) in Chromium. I tried switching the session from "Ubuntu" to "Ubuntu Classic," but that didn't really work either; the problem still persists.

Other times I've had it happen is clicking on Unity's panel (the volume, time/date, etc.). I've no way to access an application's menu now; clicking 'tools' in Banshee also starts the problem.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Ubuntu :: Changing To A Custom Resolution For HDTV Using NVIDIA Drivers

Jul 17, 2010

I have a Philips 19' HDTV I use as my monitor, I have tried every guide out there, including the wiki one with xandr. Nothing works for me. This seems like it should be way easier, set custom resolution go.. but this isn't the case.

Using Ubuntu 10.04 -

I've tried editing the xorg.conf and adding the modelines and changing the modes , I've tried the xandr commands. I've tried guides from years ago to current ones. I'm desperate, Everything is cut off like maybe an inch not even. Can just barely see the edges of the top and bottom bars.

I've been working on this for many many hours coming up with nothing every time. I wish there was a way to just resize the desktop.

Here is my most recent attempt at the conf file.

Ubuntu :: Changing Size Of Windows?

Aug 2, 2010

Whenever I try to change the sizes of the windows on my screen I get a cursor which is a double arrow. There seems to be only one X- or Y coordinate on the screen where I can pick the side of the window, it seems to be only one pixel wide. This makes it hard to get hold of the side to change the size of the window. Is there a way to enlarge this location to a few pixels so it is easier to point the mouse to the right location?

Ubuntu :: Changing Default OS To Windows In GRUB

May 17, 2010

I've seen previous threads about this, but they're rather old and I can't seem to apply their solution to the latest (10.04) stable release of Ubuntu.

What's the "best" way of changing the default option in the bootloader? I'd rather set it to "Windows 7" for the time being as it's what I use at work.

Ubuntu :: Changing Icons In OpenBox Windows?

Aug 7, 2011

I've been trying to change some of the icons in my system. I first tried the GUI. This changed the icon in the start menu, on the panel, and on the desktop, but it doesn't change the icon in the left-hand corner of open windows or in the task bar in the panel. I then went in and did it manually by editing the .desktop files in /usr/share/applications. Same thing...the icons in Openbox windows are the old ones. My guess is that Openbox is looking elsewhere for icons, but I dont really know.

General :: Important Knowledge Of Changing OS From Windows XP To Ubuntu

Oct 17, 2010

nothing informative from me as of now, although I have only been out of "Windows" for a little less than a day, I suppose the only alternative conversation topic is a simple request for those more experienced users to point out some major/musts about topics to focus on as I'm new to open source ANYTHING, really

To think I was so "under the gun" about spending loads of cash to keep up with the IT group of choice, I have gained some much needed relaxation w/my cup a tea. Pinpointed request, I guess, "when you first started, and knowing what you can do with it now, would you be obliged to say 'HEY, THIS IS THIS, BUT WATCH OUT FOR THIS'

Installation :: Changing The Hard Drive Space On Windows XP And Ubuntu 9.04 Partitions?

Sep 14, 2009

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my latop. I have an older 80 gig HP laptop with Windows XP. Currently, i have XP as the NTFS drive and it takes up about 72 gigs of space, the swap drive for ubuntu is about 256 MB and the ext-3 drive is 2.5 gigs. However, i have no more hard drive space to run or instal any programs on Ubuntu. So what i need to do is decrease the NTFS drive as i still have over 30 gigs of free space on my laptop and increase the ext3 drive to about 10 or 15 gigs and increase the swap drive?

I need to download 'Windows Wireless Drivers' from the Ubuntu Software Centre but I cannot as I do not have an Ubuntu computer with an internet connection (hence the need for the application).

Would it be possible for someone to email it to me so I may put it onto a removable storage device and install it onto my Ubuntu computer?

If not; are there any alternative solutions (other than Madwifi).

Ubuntu :: Windows Wireless Drivers Not Available In WuBi / Get That?

Jan 24, 2010

I have a new Toshiba A505-6980 laptop running Windows 7 with built-in Realtek wireless chipset (8172). I need to have Windows running currently for my job. My goal is to install Linux and then Windows 7 as a VM under Virtual Box.

In the meantime, I installed Wubi. I tried to install the wireless, but Windows Wireless Drivers wasn't installed. I tried downloading it through the built in Software Center, and it said "Not available in the current data". So I am going to manually install ndiswrapper and go from there. I already have the realtek windows inf and sys files.

My question is why is the Windows Wireless Drivers software not installed and also unavailable. Is it a Wubi thing? This is my first attempt at Wubi. My last laptop was running Linux Mint 7 as the only OS, and it had no problems installing Windows drivers.

Ubuntu :: Installed Drivers Can Be Moved / Copied To Windows?

Feb 22, 2011

But I'm curious as to if drivers installed on Ubuntu can be moved/copied over to windows. I have been trying for weeks to get my sound card to work in my system. It's a kind of older Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card and windows will not recognize it nor will any drivers I install work. To my surprise, I was messing with the audio options after my first ever install and test of Ubuntu (thoroughly impressed and excited btw), I noticed that my sound card was listed as a hardware option. I'd use ubuntu 24/7 if other computers, my HTPC, xbox, ect could connect to my media. I use windows for games, and such, so having the sound card installed would be a huge plus.

Ubuntu :: Make A Disk Image Of 9.10 System - Automatic Wrapper For Windows Drivers

Feb 12, 2010

1. Make a disk image of my 9.10 system (formatted ext3, btw) on my Syology CS407 NAS so I can do a bare metal restore. Why is this a couple of clicks on my Mac and Windows boxes, but so far not easy on Jaunty? Did I miss something?

2. Drivers. Why can't I just have an automatic wrapper for Windows drivers so I can use any printer or scanner, or a simple point and click driver install for native drivers? I have my ethernet connected Brother MFC-7820N, and the Samsung CLP-315 that runs off my CS407 installed and working on my Jaunty, but it was way more work than expected. What is the easy, automatic or point and click way to install drivers?

3. Graphics drivers. I have decent cards in my big boxes, Nvidia GTX 200 series. But when I get kernel updates, I have to uninstall and reinstall the graphics driver. Is there an easy way to keep this working?

4. Is there one flavor of linux distro that has a really consistent standard for user interface? I like to be able move things around, but do like my menus to be consistent (and do I ever hate the MS ribbon!). I've really only tried Ubuntu.

Linux installs have come a long, long way from the old days, and are such a point and click operation that I just wonder what I'm doing wrong. Someone is bound to have sorted these things.
