Server :: Convert Dual-Boot Into Virtualized Configuration

Jun 27, 2011

I have these file systems for my linux distro. I dual boot with another OS that has its own file system. My primary disk drive has ten(10) partitions of various sorts to implement this. If I boot Linux, is there some way to point the virtualization parts at those other file systems to boot rather than load other different files into Linux file space?

Clearly, I'm missing something in how Wine, VirtualBox and similar virtualization currently happens. But what I describe above surely seems more attractive.

General :: Virtualized Screen Resolution - Use A Larger Size Display That Is Configured By Default

Apr 18, 2010

I have a 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10 workstation with two virtualized guest OSes using KVM/QEMU. Also both 64-bit. One is Fedora 12 the other is beta of Ubuntu 10.04.

The problem is that I would like to use a larger size display that is configured by default.

Both guest OSes have a maximum screen resolution of 1024x768. I would like to increase this to something like 1280x900 or 1440x900. The resolution of the host system is 1920x1080.

This configuration appears to be a result of the installation detecting the resolution being reported by the virtual screen during installation.

The only information I have found on the subject suggests modifying the xorg.conf file in the /etc/X11 directory. Neither guest system has this file.

I tried creating one by hand in the Fedora system and managed to render it completely unusable. Not a big deal as this is recently installed and can be reinstalled easily.

Fedora Hardware :: Which Card Recommend To Get The Closest 3D Support To Windows Drivers?

Nov 14, 2010

just posted the same question in a thread with no questions allowed. deleted the message and here is the question again: I'm looking into updating my videocard with something more Linux-compatible (read: NVidia
instead of ATI). Is there any kind rule of thumb as to what series of cards is supported best? Atm I'm watching a Geforce 7900 GT on ebay, is that a good choice as far 3D acceleration goes? Which card would you recommend to get the closest 3D support to Windows drivers?

P.S.: I'm going to play games with the card. I use PlayOnLinux, which works for a very high amount of my games, as long as I'd have 3D acceleration. Performance is irrelevant as long as it's higher than a Radeon X850XT.

Fedora Hardware :: 15 - Black Windows With Nvidia Drivers (GF6200 TurboCache)

Jul 20, 2011

decided recently to try a new Fedora (15) on my desktop computer with old GF6200 TurboCache (64MB physical memory). Installation was pretty easy, however the screen was full of artifacts on default driver (Nouveau). Therefore installed nvidia drivers following this guide [URL]. It seemed to be working... until I opened more than 5/6 windows - every new window was appearing black. Resizing the window helps but it looks like the total display area is limited (memory problem?) - I can downsize the visible windows to give more resources for the new one. Played with nvidia-config for some time without any luck. Google showed me I was not alone with this problem - [URL]. However no solution is apparently available yet. Let's start with some debug information:

if i try to connect to my samba server ( share ) from my windows xp ( or vista, i've tried both ) it says, that the network share cannot be found. i've installed all necessary rpms on my fedora 10, necessary for running a samba server:

samba-3.2.8-0.27.fc10.i386
samba-winbind-3.2.8-0.27.fc10.i386

after that, i've configured the smb.conf file, as follows:

Quote:

[root@*********** samba]# cat /etc/samba/smb.conf
#======================= Global Settings =====================================
[global]
# ----------------------- Netwrok Related Options -------------------------
workgroup = GROUP

[code]....

there is no iptables definition, or any other firewall installed, neither on the server nor the client. i've read through alot of howtos an manuals, but was not able to find the problem.

Fedora Servers :: Samba Shares And Windows Vista - Cannot Authenticate

May 22, 2009

I had an older fedora box (I think it was Core 3) that acted as my file server in my small network (4). It worked fine when I had all XP clients connecting to it. Recently we decided to get all new computers. So now I have a fedora 10 box acting as my file/print server and all Vista Home premium computers as the clients. Ubuntu Servers :: Setting Up A Windows File Server W/ Samba On Fedora 11?

I'm trying to load a HP Proliant w/ Fedora 11 and setting up as a WFS using Samba. However, I'm a bit confused on how to do it. Right now I have 2 36.4GB drives in RAID 1+0 and 4 146.8GB drives in a RAID 5 config. I wanna use the smaller drive for the OS and the bigger drive for the storage. I've managed to load the OS fine, the problem is I can't figure out how to mount the 4 146.8GB drives as a single logical volume and set Samba to use it. Right now all the RAIDs are setup using the built-in Compaq Smart Array utility (or whatever it's called) that's built into the SCSI hardware or BIOS.

Fedora Servers :: Special Permissions For Running Windows Programs Off A Samba Share?

Feb 24, 2009

Running a Windows program (from a Windows box) directly from the Samba server, however, is turning into a nightmare. I'm getting Access is Denied errors from the Windows box, yet I can copy/create/etc from the entire directory with no problems.

Are there any special permissions I need to run EXE files from a Windows box, located on a Samba share? I've already chmod'd everything to 777, and I show full access when ls -Z is used.
