Dec 20, 2010New install of 11.2 with KDE 4.I have two soundcards in my system, one on the motherboard and a soundblaster. I multiboot and all FIVE other images, including SUSE 10.1 with KDE 3, use the soundblaster so that is where the speakers are plugged in. 11.2 insists on configuring the motherboard sound card for KDE, even when I do a fresh install setting the soundblaster as the primary sound card at installation time or when I remove the motherboard sound card from the configuration after installation. KDE 4 never even lists the soundblaster as a known card. Any way to fix or work around this restriction?

Feb 25, 2010I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2 with an Nvidia GeForce 8200 on board graphics card and am running the drivers installed from the file NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run which I obtained from the Nvidia web site. I also have this vga directive on the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst vga=0x346 Yet, sometimes when the system starts up it will go into 640x480 mode instead of 1680x1050. If I shutdown and restart a few times it will eventually come up in the proper resolution.

Aug 19, 2010I'm having an issue installing Ubuntu with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit through Wubi. The Wubi installation works great and Ubuntu seems to install after the first reboot after selecting Ubuntu from Windows' boot menu, however whenever I select Ubuntu from Windows' boot menu after Ubuntu installs and it reboots for the second time, it loads the GRUB bootloader, however Ubuntu isn't listed at all.
Windows 7 is listed twice and Windows Vista is listed (seems it picks up the recovery partition for Windows 7 as Vista) and when I select the first Windows 7 from the GRUB bootloader, it just goes back to Windows' boot menu with Windows 7 and Ubuntu as the selections. If I select the second Windows 7 from the GRUB bootloader, it'll boot Windows 7 like normally. It looks like Ubuntu is nowhere to be found. Because of that, I just ended up uninstalling it.

Dec 23, 2009Installing a F12 on a new 500gb SCSI disk.I had a previous SEPARATE disk with a stable F9 on it including its OWN SWAP space.After installing F12 to boot from the new disk it installed. When rebooted crashed with an Fdisk type problem ... Even though the entire O.S. was supposed to be separately installed on SCSI 500.. After many frustrating hours of why oh why? it appears as though the F12 installation by default grabs any allocated "SWAP" space on any allocated DISK.As an other O.S. had used that SWAP for itself (Which it has every right to do) Why then did F12 pick it up?? and Use it in /etc/fstab...Then crash as a result??
Removing the offending "SWAP" entry from /etc/fstab install solved the problem.But my question remains ?? Why Does F12 install pick up "foreign SWAP space"?
Ubuntu Networking :: Wired + Wireless Connected But Natty Picks Wrong Network For Internet
May 15, 2011I have a wireless network (192.168.1.0) that's bridged to the Internet and a wired one (192.168.0.0) that's only local. When I am connected to both networks, Natty wants to route my Internet traffic through the wired, local-only one.
Can I make it automatically "just work", so that the right network is chosen for Internet traffic? Otherwise, what's the workaround?

May 13, 2010I have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.
I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.
I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.

Jun 13, 2010I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 on a netbook with the remix UI. I downloaded netbeans and orginally it would show a gray screen after the splash screen disappeared. I was able to fix that by adding "export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit" to /etc/profile.
I then disabled a plugin, can't remember which one, and added a plugin to netbeans internal repository. Now netbeans won't start at all. It freezes at the splash screen. I have done a complete removal and a reinstallation, so I doubt the plugin stuff is affecting it. When I run netbeans from console it hangs, and displays not output until I send it an interrupt. Then it spits out this error message:

Aug 31, 2010I've tried a quick google search and found nothing. I've recently had to remove openJDK due to the sheer sluggishness of the entire outfit and instead installed SunJDK. Now, I've been trying to get Netbeans to work again (had to reinstall it) but it won't load. Here are the simple steps. 1. Click on netbeans (run) 2. Netbeans shows up the taskbar 3. Netbeans disappears from the taskbar 4. user left.

Ubuntu :: Freezes When Launching Netbeans?
Sep 1, 2011When I launch Netbeans the splash screen comes up fine, but when the loading bar gets to the "starting modules" phase the Desktop freezes up. Also sometimes nautilus causes the same kind of lockup.
I really like to know how to fix this.

I've already put all the bluecove libraries within the lib folder of the project. This program works on Windows but not on Ubuntu 9. I don't know what's wrong because the Bluetooth device works and I can use it.

May 7, 2010I recently upgraded to 10.04 and now netbeans is not working. It worked fine the first restart after i upgraded so i thought all was good. This morning i ran it and it said something about not being able to load some modules. Since then, i've tried uninstalling it, re-installing it, and numerous restarts, all to no avail. I'm gonna try downloading the package from their website and running it from a separate install and see if that helps, but after that, I'm out of ideas.
When i run it either from the terminal or by clicking on it, it shows the loading screen, then the loading screen dissapears, then nothing else happens. In the terminal, it waits about ten seconds after the screen dissapears and the program seems to exit, since the terminal begins accepting commands once again.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop (32-bit) and everything has been working fine out of the box (even the wireless card!), but there appears to be something wrong with NetBeans 6.8, whichI installed through the Software Center.
I set the font to Monospace size 12 and you'll see on the screenshot that the letters in NetBeans are way smaller and thinner.
I did some googling and tried to use start NetBeans with -J-Dswing.aatext=true and -J-Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings=on, but that did not change anything.
Is there anything I can do to force NetBeans to display the font the same way gEdit does?

Jun 11, 2010I am running ubuntu 10.04 and am trying to install netbeans 6.8. I have downloaded the install from netbeans.org installed it and tried to update. But netbeans cannot connect to the web to check for updates or install new plugins. Keeps on telling me to check my proxy settings. I have tried all the settings, no proxy, use system settings, but no luck. I even installed netbeans via apt-get and tried to update, with the same result. All my other applications can connect fine.
