I am trying to add a OpenPGP key for launchpad. It said to use this command.

When I use that command nothing shows.
Next I clicked on the the How to get the fingerprint. It said to go into Passwords and Encryption Keys. Then the My Personal Keys tab. I have nothing there. What should I do to get something there?

Retrieving the key in Ubuntu
The easiest way to generate a new OpenPGP key in Ubuntu is to use the Passwords and Encryption Keys tool. If you are using Ubuntu 10.04 or an earlier version, it is located at Applications > Accessories > Passwords and Encryption Keys. In Ubuntu 10.10 and later versions, it is located at System > Preferences > Passwords and Encryption Keys.
Step 1 Open Passwords and Encryption Keys.
Step 2 Select the My Personal Keys tab, select your key and open the property window by pressing Space Bar or double clicking with your pointer. Select the Details tab of the property window.
Step 3 Select the Fingerprint text (the ten blocks of numbers and letter). Copy the text by pressing the Ctrl+c keys together.
Retrieving the key using the GPG command
Open a terminal and enter:
gpg --fingerprint
GPG will display a message similar to:

Highlight and copy only the numeric fingerprint: 0464 39CD 2486 190A 2C5A 0739 0E68 04DC 16E7 CB72 in the example above.
so i followed these instructions, and there was nothing in my "personal keys", same for the command. so my question is how do i get the fingerprint to be able to register my key in launchpad?
I've made OpenPGP keys using gpg 1.4.9.I have a public key and a sub key.And a passphrase.I can distribute the pub key. What is sub key? Can I distribute sub key?I think the phasephrase is the private key. Right ? (in the RSA Algorithm)?Where to use the Secure Shell Key? And why to distribute it?

The Modification Detection Code Packet is defined to use SHA-1, even though it does state in section 13.11. that this can be altered, and gives example methods. However this would cause interoperability, (q1)so I assume there is no standard method of doing this??
- How much of a threat do you believe this to be? Even though the SHA-1 hash is encrypted within the symmetrically encrypted integrity protected data packet.
I've been trying to find out which jabber/XMPP clients out there automatically sign messages with openpgp you send but documentation on that has been spotty. Could you tell me a. if you know any clients that can easily sign and encrypt all outgoing messages and b. should I worry if a client is only able to sign presence and not messages?

Currently I have GPG setup with a public key, however encryption outgoing emails prooved to be harded.After a bit of research I have found GNU Anubis which acts as a middlemad between the MUA and the MTA, by encrypting emails before they reach my MTA (Sendmail)However I am having a bit of problem with the configuration of bind and remote-mta, as specified by anubis.I have the sendmail service running on port 25 and I want to leave it there, but I have configured my php.ini SMTP port to 24. So it runs through port 24 first and anubis then forwards the emails via remote-mta to port 25Here are my anubis configs:
bind localhost:24
local-mta /path/to/my/sendmail
remote-mta localhost:25
With all those set, I can't seem to get the basic modication of emails to work. (trying to change a certain subject to something else, just to see that anubis is working). However emails are still working with port 24 as the SMTP port.
Anyone else having problems connecting to Launchpad?

When I try to do it the way explained in the guide, it tells me that I'm using a stable version of Xubuntu, and that only people running dev versions (like 11.10) can report bugs.This seems absurd. It's get stuck with the updating time from internet servers process but I can't find a way to report it to launchpad.
I've already encountered a couple bugs, and thought it would be nice to be able to report new ones there and/or comment on old ones. But their register button only leads to "Invalid OpenID transaction," and I think that's a bug, and I think I ought to report that over here since I obviously can't register or report it over there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally figured out how to upload onto Launchpad into a PPA, but unfortunately, I cannot seem to get the version numbers worked out.
For instance, here is the original version of bleachbit-bonus:
bleachbit-bonus_0.8.2-1_all.deb
And I can successfully break it down into the correct source binaries for Launchpad, but when I try a folder name such as this:
bleachbit-bonus-0.8.2-1~ppa1
It uploads to the PPA just fine, but the versioning is bad. For some reason it breaks it down like this:
package name: bleachbit-bonus-0.8.2
version: 1~ppa1
Also, I really don't care what the version name is, I just want it working so I can mimic for several packages.
Is anyone else having trouble...I'm getting a ton of "Failed to fetch..." errors while updating.The site itself is working fine. No news here [URL]. Normally I wouldn't be concerned, however this happened right when I modified my sources so I'm hoping I didn't mess something up.

But I find a lot of great apps that are not included in repositories and would like to ask. How actually secure launchpad is? Are the codes reviewed by anyone? How do I make sure that a piece of software is not going to harm my Ubuntu? If I add a PPA for some program I won't going to check it's code every time it updates or am I being too cautious?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot find where to post bugs in the launchpad anymore? What happened to the launchpad? It's sort of goofy that there is no (report a bug) link anywhere. But if you search bugs then you can see a link to the right, but nothing anywhere else. And even then you can only post a bug regarding that same category and subject. So it would appear the launchpad has a bug, or I just can't figure out how to navigate to report a bug.

its not related to the mint packages because i installed the keyring for that and since the error i have unchecked the linux mint repo. i have tried reinstalling the ubuntu-keyring package with no luck.
If you have problem using Ubuntu 11.04 from USB, remove the U3 launchpad if you do not need it at all. I was playing around and by mistake I deleted the Chat and Mail panels which are default on the launchpad or whatever the top bar is called (where by default the date and power options/buttons appear). I want to bring it back.
