View 2 RepliesI am using Kubuntu 10.04 (+KDS 4) in a virtual machine (64 bit). Kubuntu 10.04 runs fine, but does not have an xorg.conf file anymore where I can set "backingstore true". How do I configure (which system file to edit?) my machine so that backingstore works in absence of an xorg.conf?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Kubuntu 10.04 with KDE 4.2.2. I have a problem with "BackingStore", which does not preserve the contents of a window created by another program (actually PAW, producing a histogram). I have created a small xorg.conf, just containing this code:
Section "Device"
Identifier "VMware SVGA"
Driver "vmware"
Option "BackingStore" "true"
EndSection
The contents of the created window is indeed preserved when putting other widows over it and removing them again. This was not the case without the xorg.conf above. Without this file the content covered by another window is not redrawn after shifting the obscuring window.
However, the content is cleared when I switch to different virtual screen and then coming back to the original one. So Backingstore is not working between virtual windows.
In my old 8.04 installation (with KDE 3) everything was fine with the backingstore: Switching between virtual windows did not clear the contents!
I have a machine running karmic server and it will not let me mount a USB drive unless I go throught the terminal process of mounting the drive. How to activate automount on a server edition. My workstations do it automatically, why can't my server?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed OpenVPN and gadmin-openvpn-server from the repos and I can't seem to activate the openvpn server in the gui. I have the server certificate generated, and all the information on encryption protocols setup, and accounts named and ready, despite accounts that were already there, such as www-data, bind, ossec, etc being listed. The server log states:
PLUGIN_INIT: could not load plugin shared object /usr/lib/openvpn-pam-auth.so: /usr/lib/openvpn/openvpn-pam-auth.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
After install rhel 5.1 is there any way to activate rhn support.because at the time of insatalltion have choosed i will do it later.

I have an older version of ggv on RHEL for viewing PostScript (.ps) files, but the binary I have refuses to open files from AFS. ggv-2.12.0 is able to open these files from AFS just fine on my Mac. I was not able to find packaged binaries for RHEL 5 or 6 for ggv-2.12.0, so I downloaded the source and compiled it. Unfortunately, it fails to start, printing these error messages:

I wrote a small script :

in that script I create some alias commands an pipe them to a new shell script (called dojas.sh) however after execution of that script , I do not see the aliases jan1 and jan2 in my terminal. Even if I execute the dojas.sh srcipt manually , I do not see the aliases in the alias output of my terminal. The only way I can make the aliases active is do the following : cat dojas.sh copy and paste the alias rules, and they are active in my session. How can I make sure that I can activate aliases and they are active in my terminal from a script ?
Note : I am not interested in .bashrc file, I want them to be active in my current session.
I have installed apache on my linux server successfully but just found out that i needed to secure my apache server with SSL. When installing apache I didn't do this line:
./configure
--prefix=/srv/webserver/apache2
--enable-ssl <------------------------ didnt do this line
My installation does not have the mod_ssl. How do I activate the SSL on my apache without having to install it all over again?
I want to install MATLAB 2009 on a ubuntu server 10.04 amd64 which has NOT any gui. The installation was successful however when it comes to activate, it says "Could not open display. Exiting.". Here is what I did:
1- ssh -X user@server
2- verified that I can see "xclock" and "xcalc". Yes I can see...
3- cd /mnt ; ./install
4- I can see the GUI wizard since the X11 forward is working. Installation done successfully.
5- cd /opt/Matlab/bin ; ./activate_matlab.sh
it says: Could not open display. Exiting.
I have 3 accounts setup on this machine. One is root, one is my own, and one is for my kids. My account and root work fine, but today when I tried to log my kids on, startx fails (it also fails from runlevel4). I have tried creating new accounts and they fail as well. I'm not sure when the issue started, but it's been less than a week I believe. The consistent error which I receive is

I have setup a CentOS 5.5 server as a DHCP server. That will be it's only task in a Cisco callmanger VoIP environment The DHCP server that comes with CentOS 5.5 is from ISC V3.0.5 -redhat.
The server (HP DL360) has two physical NIC's of which only NIC1 is used (ETH0)

I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server.The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners.All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !

Working with Amahi server and the VPN app. WHenever I want to activate a VPN tunnel thru ssl, the VPN server starts up "Adito" agent. Normally in Windows, the agent pops up with a browser and basically lets you surf inside the VPN.But when I use my Ubuntu, it says it's starting teh agent and then it just sits there and stalls out with failed to sync.I checked the logs and this is all I got:

Everything seemed to go well enough. Stock lighttpd.conf. However, it won't start on boot. Not even manually via:
# /etc/init.d/lighttpd start
or
# /etc/init.d/lighttpd -f /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf (came across that while scouring Google).
No messages, no logs, nothing. ?

I have reinstalled mysql-server-5.1 using the command "sudo apt-get --reinstall install mysql-server-5.1".
But its giving error message at the end of installation when its trying to start the server.
The error message is as follows.
When i tried to start the server after the installation, i get this error message
Note : The file "/etc/mysql/my.cnf" is empty.
I run a headless Ubuntu file server which I access remotely via ssh or using VNC. After reboot, short of moving monitors around, is there anyway to start the GUI and continue using VNC as I normally would? I still rely on the GUI to get done what I need for the most part.
