Ubuntu :: Cant Access On 2nd Harddrive After Reinstall Of Xp?
Jan 5, 2011I have two hard drives one running Ubuntu 10.04 and the other XP (only for itunes and gaming) but earlier today i needed to reinstall xp as its windows and got bored of working properly and i am now unable to access the ubuntu harddrive as grub was written to the windows mbr.Now i would of normally just reinstalled Ubuntu and gone from there but as i was trying to be clever i copied my itunes folder over and i dont really wont to lose this.So two questions;1) How can i add the Ubuntu harddrive back to the boot options ?2) Or how can i get the itunes folder off the Ubuntu install using a live disk or from xp?

May 29, 2011I have an USB drive and I made a share with samba and accessed it from windows computer. I've been using openSUSE 11.3 with no problems.
Recently, I've installed openSUSE 11.4. Now I can't write to my USB Disk through samba.
It is formatted as ntfs.
samba log tells a lot of things.... for eg.:

Feb 22, 2011Debian 6.0 Squeeze (stable) AMD64.
At first the problem was that the old volume group (containing all logical volumes for both physical volumes) had the same name as the new volume group. I did a reinstall where I changed the name and ran vgreduce --removemissing debian which seems to have removed all logical volumes from the old volume group.
When I try to unlock the drive in Gnomes Disk Utility I get "Incorrect Passphrase. Try again." but I *know* it's the right password, and I don't get any error when changing the password so that seems to be possible.
I found the oldest archive in /etc/lvm/archive/ and manually edited it to remove any stuff about the old LVs and PVs. Then I did vgcfgrestore --file VG_backup.vg groupname. With the help of blkid I edited /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab to mount the disk at startup.
Fedora :: Changed Harddrive Priority To Second Harddrive?
Mar 9, 2011i've worked with Linux for a while now, but never in a double boot kind of way (except using wubi), and i'm still kind of a newby.i have 2 harddrivesfirst one has only 1 partition; Windows XPsecond one has 1 empty partition, simple storageand another partition where i installed fedora core, and GRUB is also located on this harddrive.I changed harddrive priority to my second harddrive, result:GRUB comes up, no problem, but when I try to boot windows, it tells mentldr is missing ctrl alt del to continueso i changed the harddisk priority back to the way it was, where the first drive containing windows is first priority... but then, no GRUB.i've tried editing the grub conf,i've tried fixboot/fixmbrtl;dr:no ntdlr when linux harddrive is main priorityno grub when windows harddrive is main priority

Jul 1, 2010when on it`s own but if i put another drive on the same lead either as master or slave it is then reconised? If i boot into a boot disk for windows even though i have no c drive some of the utilities work the same and reconise it hd tune for instance.Would it have some thing to do with the size of the drive? Im using a fujitsu pentium 4 board.

Nov 9, 2010I'm fairly new to linux in general, I am making strides, and I decided to buy a 500gb hard drive to run as a slave, for the increasing amount of data I store, and I cant use it. I tried to follow a PsychoCats tutorial, and while it was informative, I either did something wrong, or I didn't understand. With Gparted I managed to format it with Ext4. IT shows up in my diskspace widgit as /dev/sdb1. But states it isn't accessible, and has a total drive space of 0mb. I don't need anything fancy. I just want it to read and write properly.

Apr 19, 2011I have installed Musix distro on my brand new amd 64 dual core computer but for some reason it is not showing in the media folder. Been a while since i mounted a slave and plain ubuntu seems to do it automatically so i forgot what commands i need to see it. Would love some help as the Musix forum is messed up. They have most of their forum in spanish and the parts that are english are not complete. I managed to sign up but that damn thing is really messed up. I signed up as over 18 but it sends you a form to have signed as under 18. Made 2 different users and still the same problem.

My issue is that ubuntu does not show my secondary slave seagate hdd .. it only shows and installs on my western digital master primary one. I need to have access to my slave drive because it has data on it which i wanna use.
My secondary slave shows up in my windows and bios just fine. So what gives?

Jan 21, 2011I have 2 nameservers setup, a master and a slave. when I first setup the slave, I restarted bind9 and all of the zone records propagated just fine. Today, I updated one of the records on the master (no problems), but when I restarted bind9 on the slave it gave me a FAILED message. I checked the log and it was trying to receive notify's from my gateway address (192.168.10.1), and got "Failed to update from non-master". I did some research and found several people having a similar problem, but their slaves were trying to update from their own IP, not from the gateway IP. I tried their solution (allow-notify { 192.168.10.1; }) but all that did was allow the slave to restart bind without errors, it still doesn't update the records. It says "zone is up to date" but it's not.
IP's are:
Gateway 192.168.10.1
Master 192.168.10.200
Slave 192.168.10.201
All of my zone records have the masters statement set to 192.168.10.200 I don't know how it even came up with the gateway address

Feb 15, 2011I'm trying to add my xp drive to the boot menu but I'm having some trouble with it. I've been going over dozens of topics on many forums and I still can't get it to work (I'm new to linux/ubuntu btw).
Ok, so, I have Ubuntu 10.04 on the main drive (primary master) and xp on a second drive (secondary slave) and from what I've read sec. slave is hd3. I added the lines I found in another thread (here I think) but when I tried to boot xp it said the drive didn't exist.

May 1, 2011I have an EeePC 901, with a 4gb SSD and a 16gb SSD installed. Trying to get Natty installed and hit a few problems not least of which, that it won't fit on the 4gb drive! However in my BIOS setup under HDD config it says:
Secondary Master=4gb
Secondary Slave=16gb
I have no other devices attached. Why aren't they Primary? And I can't seem to switch them round.

Sep 10, 2010I got a sort of usb connected device(not an external enclosure) so i can connect a sata hard drive into a machine that only has ide connections but the drive is not mounting. I am not very good at mounting slave hard drives anyway ,,,,never been able to get one happening without help. I am wanting to read this drive as i killed another desktop machine(i think the mb) and i need the data off the hard drive. The drive is shown in a directory and in the media directory. Fedora Servers :: Slave Dns Fails W/o Primary Dns?

General :: Master And Slave DNS Server Replication
Nov 29, 2010I configured a master DNS server 192.168.2.10 working OK. After that I configure a DNS Slave Server (92.168.2.11)the initial replication worked fine. This is test environment for my certification. I see how the zones from my master are transferred

That's Ok but I added some IPs to resolve to my master zone

I restart/reload named on master and after that I go to slave and restart/reload but zones wuth the new values are not replicated. How long does it take for slave to take the changes from master? how is the procedure manual or automatic? I see If I go to slave and delete sec.training.com and restart named the zone with the changes is transferred but that is very manual... I am including my DNS Configuration so you can take a look.

Jul 31, 2010I recently set up replication on a production server and some rows are not making it to the tables on the slave. After 3 days I can see 200+ entries (of 161,000~) that are on the master and not the slave. Logs under /var/log including mysqld.log, mysql.status, messages do not show any problem.I have already tried dropping the DB on the slave and setting up the replication again by doing a stop slave, set slave options such as were in the logging to start, drop table, restore the dump previously made by the master, start slave, but the issue persists.
I following the documentation on the MySQL site for setting up replication so I'm not sure why this is having issues.What can I do to investigate and fix this?
