View 9 RepliesThe problem: upon login to my machine, xubuntu opens the software center automatically. I have looked in Applications >> Settings >> XFCE4 Settings Manager >> Session and Startup >> Application Autostart, and I did not find an entrie for the software center.
My system: Xubuntu 10.04LTS This is only a minor problem because it is easy to just close it after it opens, but it is mildly annoying.
As far as i know VLC is the best media player for linux bc it suppurts all file types. But there is one anoying problem - when i want to listen to song it opens VLC, but when i open another song it opens another new VLC window. And this problemug or whatever didnt apear in Windows version VLC player.
View 4 Replies View Relatedevery time i play a file, vlc opens a new window for that file and does not close the already running file... I find it inconvenient to close the previous window in order to listen to a new song.
Is there any way to automatically close the previous file as soon as another is played?
Ubuntu 9.04 Terminal app no longer opens; get a blank white screen.; update function will no longer run.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Lucid, I got rid of both gnome panels, and just now remembered that Rhythmbox opens to the top panel by default (at least for me), which means when I opened it I got nothing. How do I change this so that it just opens onto the desktop? I looked in edit/preferences of Rhythmbox but theres nothing in there.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to write a file to a SD card in my card reader. When Ubuntu first boots in and I open up the SD card It gives the option to create folders and files. However after a second or two the window closes and then will only let me vew the files.Does anyone know how I can fix this so that the SD card is able to be written to?The lock is not on the SD card, and under permissions it states that I have permission to create and delete files.I am using an up to date version of Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04I have tried searching for a solution but cannot find anything relevant that works

I've just allowed Ghostery to update to version 2.3. Now every time I open my browser (Firefox), a Ghostery tab opens after my homepage tab opens. How do/can I prevent this (the opening of a Ghostery tab in Firefox) from happening?
Edit: what is popping up is a "Ghostery Configuration Walkthrough", a setup wizard. I've looked on the Ghostery forum; some are seeking ways to get around this wizard; but, so far, no answers. A Google search didn't produce anything either. So, I guess I'll run the wizard and see what happens; even though there are no settings that I would change.
When clicking on the Home Folder, K3B opens up. This also occurs on all icons under Places.
We have tried uninstalling K3B and the system is ok. But when you install K3B the problem comes back.
I have a win7 laptop and installed a dual-boot ubuntu 10.10. I'm using firefox & thunderbird, shared between windows and ubuntu (default profiles are on a fat32 disk that is shared between the two OSs). I can mount the fat32 disk as usual, but I can't get firefox OR thunderbird to start unless I start them from a terminal using 'sudo'. This is kinda strange. I used to do this all the time and never had a problem before.
I installed firefox, then did:
cd /etc/firefox
sudo firefox -P
in the profile manager, I set the profile file etc, but when I open firefox without doing 'sudo firefox', it hangs up and cannot find the profile. Why do I have to use 'sudo' to open firefox or thunderbird?
It works fine on my other laptop, but I've deleted & reinstalled ubuntu 3 times on this laptop and still have the same problem.
If Skype is already running, pressing its shortcut starts a new sequence rather than opening the one already running. Is there a way to change it?

I've looked every place I can think to tell it to open in a blank screen. My preferences are set to blank. Right click on the icon > properties shows 'firefox %u'.
Is there something in 'about:config' that would control this and what do I search for?
I installed the mount/unmount scripts off this site [URL] so i mounted an iso image, something went wrong and ubuntu could not mount my DVD drive to view my cd/dvd after i had to fix it with the unmount script but now every time i turn on my pc the folder /media/cdrom0 opens which is my dvd/cd drive, and still opens even with no disc init as you see in this ss do you see the bar says /media/cdrom0? this time in the ss it has a cd in the drive but other times opens regardless if there is one or not [URL]
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I open a directory from the Places menu on the Gnome panel, two Nautilus windows open up. One is the location I asked for. The other is always "/media/Data/ZZZMaint/PC/R stats pkg". I think it may be to do with the fact that some time earlier I had created a launcher in the Main Menu - called "R documentation"', with command "nautilus --no-desktop '/media/Data/ZZZMaint/PC/R stats pkg' " (the idea was to have a menu item that opened up a folder containing a set of documents I refer to). I have since disabled that menu item but the problem remains. I would very much like to stop Nautilus opening this extra window.I've tried looking through gconf-editor but haven't seen anything that looks relevant. The extra window doesn't get opened when I run Nautilus from other places, but it always happens when Nautilus is opened from the Places Menu, regardless of whether I'm opening a drive or a bookmark.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have seen when people click on an icon that is on the doc, it opens up a pop up window that has application you can click on. I have Cairo Dock. With it, I can add a shortcut menu and a Stack icon. From there,I can add applications, but they have a generic *.desktop icon. Is there any way to get the same Mac effect from Cairo Dock, or maybe even a shortcut to the applications folder in Ubuntu?By the way, can someone tell me the default path to the applications folder?"

I'm supposed to run this dbgl file (front end for dosbox) in terminal like the tutorial i'm viewing says, but everytime i click "Run in Terminal", the Terminal shows up for a split-second and then disappears. Nothing else shows up. Nothing else opens.
my problem is that every time I try to open a folder the theme installer program opens and says ''Documents" does not appear to be a valid theme''. It does this to every music, picture or drive folder that I try to open. Sorry I have only just started to use Ubuntu after years of using windows and I'm not to sure on how to trouble shoot just yet.

I tried to recreate the problem with the spreadsheet program and couldn't, it seems to be confined just to the word processor. I don't know if this is a natty problem or a libreoffice problem - I got them both at once with the upgrade.
Also, I don't know if this is the right forum for reporting bugs.
Rythmbox does not open a window on the desktop, but its icon appears in the upper taskbar. I have to click on the icon to open the Rythmbox window to select songs etc.
I'm sure there's a simple fix for this, but I haven't been able to locate it.

How do I get this to stop? When I even click on Pictures, it opens up VLC instead, it did the same thing with rhythmbox and movie player as well.
