Rythmbox does not open a window on the desktop, but its icon appears in the upper taskbar. I have to click on the icon to open the Rythmbox window to select songs etc.
I'm sure there's a simple fix for this, but I haven't been able to locate it.

I used the script mentioned here [URL] to convert some wma files to mp3 however rhythmbox will not import these. Is this to do with the way they were conveted? Is there a better way or will converting wma to mp3 always result in this? Was going to try soundconverter but I wasn't sure if this would just do the same thing.

I'm running Rythmbox 0.13.1 on Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition.
My problem is that edits I make to tags sometimes don't save in Rythmbox. After I make the edit and click save it appears to have changed. (IE, the genre will change or the comment section will be different.) But if I reboot Rythmbox it has reverted to its previous state.
Not sure what's going on. Is this something I should fix or should I file a bug report and wait for the next version of Rythmbox?
I have 10.04 (kernel 2.6.32-22) and have noticed that whenever i have Rhythmbox running; the keyboard stops working in any apps. As soon as I close Rhythmbox, they work again!

View 2 Replies View Related(using 10.10) and I just can't get my iPod Touch to sync with my Rythmbox.
When I plug my iPod into the USB port, a message is prompted, which tells me it detected a digital music device and asks me to select a program to access it. Then I select "Rythmbox" and Rythmbox opens.
My iPod's name shows on the left bar, but when I select it, no songs appear, and also I can't drag songs from my library to my iPod.
I aready tried Banshee and Amrok and it didn't work on those either.
I have a Creative Zen Micro MP3 player (software version 2.21.02) which worked almost in a plug and play fashion with Rhythmbox (0.12) on Jaunty (9.04 / i386). Almost : I just had to make sure that Nautilus had not mounted the Zen as an external medium. Otherwise everything worked as expected.
Now I tried to reuse it on my Karmic Koala (amd64) laptop with Rhythmbox (0.12.7). I've been through several posts but nothing seem to make it work properly : If the Zen is unmounted before starting Rhythmbox it will appear in the media column and it will even show the songs; I can drag and drop songs from the Zen to the Rhythmbox Music library (very slow); but I can't play any song directly from the Zen.Any thoughts on how to get it to :
- speed up transfers between the Zen and the Music library
- play songs from the Zen
I recently installed Banshee and would like to set it as my default music player. Currently, when I plug in my iPod, Rythmbox auto loads and then Banshee cannot access the device. Is there a way to go about changing this setup so when I plug in the iPod, it's Banshee that loads it and not Rythmbox?

I knew it is easy to change / add , album art in any mp3 songs by dragging appropriate image file on rythmbox, it is working fine with Rythmbox but when I am playing the same song from another application like VLC,totem the album art is not showing. If I quit rythmbox ,and the song is open again in rythmbox, it sosometime showing the album art but sometime not.It is also not showing in my mobile phone.
After a little bit searching about this I came to know that EasyTag can do this,I have installed EasyTag from software centre but it remains dim with the mp3 files. how to change the album art permanently,so that the album art can see from any software and device like mobile , ipod etc.
every time i play a file, vlc opens a new window for that file and does not close the already running file... I find it inconvenient to close the previous window in order to listen to a new song.
Is there any way to automatically close the previous file as soon as another is played?
In Windows 7 when you hover over an open application in the taskbar, it shows a small image of that application. Is there a way this can be done in Linux?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a clean install of 9.10 on a crispy new pc (Packard Bell I-extreme) I've connected my pc via HDMI to my Samsung 5 LCD tv (source is marked/named 'pc') by means of an NVIDIA.The problem is that the x screen is too large for my tv. I see the 'working area' but the top and bottom taskbar fall of the screen.The current settings (which I of course double checked) worked when the pc was connected to the lcd via VGA cable. X Server settings and TV resolution are set to the same values...(1920x1080)
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis began after I deleted my gnome configuration files. I logged out, logged back in, and Firefox and Icedove autostarted like they are supposed to. Firefox asked me if I wanted it to be the default browser, (which it was before), and I indicated yes. Now, whenever I click links in Icedove, a new Firefox window (rather than a new tab) opens and loads my homepage instead of the correct website. I've tried changing my default browser and then changing it back with xfce settings; Icedove opens links in Firefox regardless of the default browser setting. I've tried various changes to the setting
/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http (and https) with gconf-editor:
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin %s (this was the setting when I first opened gconf-editor)
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin "%s"
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin "%u"

None had any effect.I know that the urls in my e-mails are not the problem because the correct site loads when I copy and paste them.
As far as i know VLC is the best media player for linux bc it suppurts all file types. But there is one anoying problem - when i want to listen to song it opens VLC, but when i open another song it opens another new VLC window. And this problemug or whatever didnt apear in Windows version VLC player.

I am trying to remove some icons from the "taskbar"/panel and find the only real options are adding MORE widgets, adding another panel, or deleting the whole panel.I simply want to remove a duplicate and re-arrange the icons without having to delete the panel, add another panel, and careful add, in the order I want the icons, the widgets right-click on the panel and I get "Task Manager Settings ALT+D,S" and "Panel Options" which offers no visible means of managing the panel.I condemned to deleting the panel and starting over?
Sometimes in BBC iPlayer - Bigscreen the fullscreen video does not open on top, and then none of the lirc remote control commands (irxevent) function, not even Escape (nor Alt-TAB, which would bring the fullscreen on top if I used the keyboard - but sitting in the TV couch I would prefer using the remote only).
This often happens on my SuSE 10.2 partition, especially when wanting to resume a video, but never happens on my Kubuntu 9.10 partition. Both are 32-bit using KDE 4.3.5 Firefox 3.5.8 and Adobe Flash 10,0,45,2.
How can I get the fullscreen on top??
I would like to make my panel display one icon per window per workspace as seen on the Crunchbang panels. I am using Gnome with Metacity on Squeeze, but I would have no problem switching window managers if whatever widget Crunchbang uses requires it.

Last night, when I logged in, I only got the desktop with whatever icons I have set on the desktop. The menu bar and the taskbars have disappeared completely.
Is there a way to recover this? Is this a common behaviour? I used to get this problem when I tried out QIMO.

I've tried all of VLCs different Video Output Methods. It didn't use to have this behaviour either, it just began happening now. My taskbar is set to "Always Visible" as I hate "Auto Hide" and I don't want my windows to go above or below it...
I've just finished an upgrade from debian lenny to squeeze.But when I tried to log into my Gnome session the menu and the taskbar was missing and when i click on change desktop preferences nothing happen and i m not able to run anny command as well (alt+f2). The upgrading process went good i think and i dont know what i did wrong

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe first issue is adding launch icons to the task bar. I can add launchers, but cannot figure out how to link them to applications. It is only half a problem, because putting links on the desktop is easy, but I prefer having launchers on the task bar so the desktop is not cluttered.The big problem is placement of desktop icons. I like to put icons on the right side of the screen, and more importantly, I like to group related icons. For example, if I had a folder or document for Linux and another for Debian, I want them grouped together. I also like arranging by category: folders in one column, documents and images in another and launchers (if any) in a third. However, if there is way to enable desktop icons to be moved, I cannot figure it out. Icons are fixed on the left side of the screen with folders first in alphabetical order, then documents/images in alphabetical or numerical order, and launch icons last.My guess is icons can be moved, but I am not computer literate enough to figure it out. It does not make sense that the task bar can be placed on the top, bottom, left or right, but desktop icons cannot be moved. I have tried every preference setting, but there are no relevant options.Am I over-looking something that is not obvious or is it a strange deficiency with LXDE?

I can open firefox, dolphin or another program and the spinner stops spinning.

I've got a desktop "konsole" shortcut that works great, it has a "konsole" icon on it that fits well.
I've copied this desktop shortcut to a taskbar shortcut (via drag'n drop).
The result is a usable shortcut, but with a wrong icon image.
I've reproduced the problem three times for different apps and obtained three times the same icon (but the shortcut is however good).
If I open the configuration popup, it displays the correct icon ...

when I connected to the L32 HDTV over the HDMI cable, picture came up, and I thought great, plug & play. But the title bar and taskbar were missing and I soon learned that this cheap Vizio TV has a native resolution of 1366x768 and simply upscales and chops off what it considers "overscan" when you drive it at the proper 720p 1280x720. To add to the problems, it doesn't report the correct EDID modes (look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see the probes or install and use the read-edid package) so 1366x768 isn't an option out of the box. I spent days mucking around with /etc/X11/xorg.conf with custom Modelines, strange options and copying confs from other threads, trying to get it working at 1366x768 or 1360x768 or 1368x768 (some variations seem to work for some people)
In the end, I didn't have to touch xorg.conf at all =) All I had to do was install the newer NVIDIA 195 drivers!!! Then you get the lovely Overscan Compensation slider in nvidia-settings, and all is well. First, you will have to apt-get remove the old drivers (probably -185 or -180). Install apt-show-versions for an easy way to do that. I had a bunch of junk, I just removed all packages that had nvidia-someversionnumber in the package name.

This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?
