Ubuntu :: No Program / Application Opens?
Jul 20, 2011I am using 11.04. I tried every program. They just load and nothing happens. Only thing I can do is open the toolbar at the top.

Ubuntu :: Java Application Opens Without Window Content
Oct 6, 2010I"m running 10.04 on a netbook. I switched my Java look and feel to Nimbus and now my java application opens with most of the buttons and window content missing. The main menu is there, but otherwise the main form is mostly blank. If I restart the application (not my computer) 2-3 times, the problem is resolved until the next time I have to launch the java app. I did not see this issue before changing the look & feel setting for Java. But the GTK l&F doesn't work for other reasons, so I was forced to make a change.
I'm running compiz and I know the blank windows in Java apps was a common problem a while back. I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is related to that old problem or is something different.

Aug 18, 2010I didn't have this problem in GIMP 2.6.8: when I double clicked an image file in Nautilus, the file opened in an existing instance of the GIMP, if it was already running. Now, after I compiled and installed GIMP 2.6.10, a double-clicked file opens into a new instance of the program. The same for files that are dropped on the GIMP icon in the panel. The only way to avoid this behaviour is to switch to the running instance of GIMP and use the Open command.

Apr 20, 2010Is there a way I can install a windows program to webspace and run it from a linux client computer? To specify, I'm a student at the University of Minnesota. I have access to linux machines running Ubuntu, however, the space allocated to us is too small for the program I would like to run on these computers. I do have webspace I can use though. The thing I'd like to be running on the linux computers is a windows application requiring installation. So is there a way to put/install/(whatever else it might be called) this program onto my webspace and be able to run it from the linux computers? I know it's probably unlikely, but maybe?

I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...

Jan 18, 2010every time i play a file, vlc opens a new window for that file and does not close the already running file... I find it inconvenient to close the previous window in order to listen to a new song.

Aug 26, 2010I've just allowed Ghostery to update to version 2.3. Now every time I open my browser (Firefox), a Ghostery tab opens after my homepage tab opens. How do/can I prevent this (the opening of a Ghostery tab in Firefox) from happening?
Edit: what is popping up is a "Ghostery Configuration Walkthrough", a setup wizard. I've looked on the Ghostery forum; some are seeking ways to get around this wizard; but, so far, no answers. A Google search didn't produce anything either. So, I guess I'll run the wizard and see what happens; even though there are no settings that I would change.
Ubuntu :: Home Folder Opens To K3B?

We have tried uninstalling K3B and the system is ok. But when you install K3B the problem comes back.
Ubuntu :: Firefox Only Opens If Using 'sudo'
Mar 26, 2011I have a win7 laptop and installed a dual-boot ubuntu 10.10. I'm using firefox & thunderbird, shared between windows and ubuntu (default profiles are on a fat32 disk that is shared between the two OSs). I can mount the fat32 disk as usual, but I can't get firefox OR thunderbird to start unless I start them from a terminal using 'sudo'. This is kinda strange. I used to do this all the time and never had a problem before.
I installed firefox, then did:
cd /etc/firefox
sudo firefox -P
in the profile manager, I set the profile file etc, but when I open firefox without doing 'sudo firefox', it hangs up and cannot find the profile. Why do I have to use 'sudo' to open firefox or thunderbird?
It works fine on my other laptop, but I've deleted & reinstalled ubuntu 3 times on this laptop and still have the same problem.
