May 3, 2010I am impressed with the visuals of both Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6, but unfortunately I've been experiencing a very annoying issue since my install of 10.04 two days ago.
When I begin a Firefox session (using profile manager, in case it might have any relevance to the issue) it moves at lightning speed for the first five or so pages. Then, if I try a website it will time out (I have tried various pages, so it is not a page-specific issue) forcing me to refresh the page, wait roughly ten seconds, and finally be back on the initial page.
I am too lazy to re-list my PC stats, but they can be found in my signature. I am running on a household network, with the average connection speed ranging from from 40-80%.
The only other Ubuntu release I have used is Jaunty, where Firefox 3.0 (was it really 3.0 back then?) worked perfectly.
I have installed Google Chrome as well, and it seems to have the same relative issue, but it manages to recover from the timeouts quickly.
My only thought is perhaps it is an internal Internet setting that is disturbing the browser(s), potentially a default setting that has been modified since 9.04?

Jan 20, 2011I'm thinking about a OS reinstall, using Ubuntu. OK, presently I have: Old desktop machine with Win Vista installed. I have no Vista disk, so when it's gone, its gone for good. The system is set up with BT using ADSL, with a wireless router included. I can access whats called the BT home hub manager through a URL in a web browser, this gives me all specific information with regards to getting online, router etc. My main concerns are: If i do a complete reinstall (Ubuntu) then will i still be able to configure it all with Ubuntu? I'm thinking that BT will probably not support Linux platforms hence any software coming from (i.e. disk) them would be in the form of Windows binaries, about as much use as a handbrake on a canoe as far as Linux is concerned. So, if i take the plunge then; if i can access BT home hub manager through a URI with all pertinent information displayed there - is that all i need to get me up and running? I mean, reinstall, visit BT home hub manager URI and configure Ubuntu with all settings found there?

Mar 21, 2011Problem with Jaunty (yes I know its old) on line. The thing is some web pages are fine and some just never seem to open up with Firefox.
I dont seem to have any problems when I attempt to ping for instance google.

Jul 3, 2010I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu a few days ago (on my Windows Vista Laptop), played around with it, did some trouble shooting (got my wifi card working!)... and am generally enjoying it.However, I am having issues loading my Yahoo Mail. I am using the newest version of Opera (which I also run on windows), but have tried Firefox as well. I am having absolutely no issues with Yahoo mail when I use Windows (in Opera, firefox, chrome, and IE), but can not get it to load at all with Ubuntu. Basically I can get to the Yahoo home page no problem, and can access any of the links etc., except for Mail. When I click it, I just get an error page (as if there was no Internet connection). I have not had problems with any other sites.I'm thinking its some kind of scripting/application conflict, but like I said this whole Linux thing is brand new to me. Have only ever really used Windows in the past.I'm hoping to get these minor issues hashed out, and eventually just drop Windows out of my reality.

I can connect to my access point to surf internet. I setup my Dlink access point (password, network name, etc) in Vista by visiting "http://dlinkap/" in my web browser.
In ubuntu, I can connect and surf the web/internet but i cannot access the setup page.
When I try to type the "http://dlinkap/" to my browser then the browser will redirect it to google search.
I try 192.168.1.1, I can access my linksys router. but my dlink access point, i cannot access the setup page.

Aug 18, 2010Every time when I visit facebook site my system crashes, everything that I have opened just closes and my machine returns to a login screen. This only happens when visiting facebook, and I can't relate this to administrative restrictions because I can visit facebook from other computers within the same network.

Jun 15, 2010I have a 2.6 P4 with HT and 1GB of PC3200. i'm using an RaLink 2760 based wifi card. i compiled the driver from source, don't think it matters because i get this problem on ethernet as well. video is RV280 (radeon 9200). i have 3D accelleration supposively and get 570fps steady with glxgears. i'm in F11 updated as far as yum will take me.
When browsing websites, usually forums but even things like ....., the computer acts like it's being bogged down by something. i scroll down a page and it takes a few seconds for the screen to catch up. i understand i'm not running the most up to date hardware but i don't think this machine should have any problems with web browsing.

Dec 23, 2010On computer, I have apache server, configured at port 80, running. In local network, web page is accessible by my local IP (192...). Although, when I want to get to the page from the internet, I don't know right ip address, since router's one should be local, and also, router has it's own web page running at port 80. So I guessed that my server IP would be modem's one, which I don't know. Sometime in past, I figured out address of modem too, but it has it's own application running. Also, router supports port forwarding (which I guess, is needed), but I don't know how to get using to it. what address from internet should I have? How should I determine it?

No help when I rebooted a few times and connect to my home network via wireless or even wire cable; it can access files in my network file server (DNS-321) but not the internet. Oct 12, 2010i am able to try ubuntu and everything works fine until i try to install. the menu comes up to the first page where it tells you to plug in your machine and make sure there is enough disk space and network connectivity. when i hit next on this page the mouse icon changes but the next page never loads. the longest i let it hang there was 2 hours. ive tried multiple times with the same result.

The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

What is my problem? I have a page (one page - text an graphic) to print. When I sent it to my printer it prints OK. When I sent it agian, the output is totally garbled. When I sent it again (a third time) it is OK. Sent it again (4th time) it is garbled. Sent it again ... you get the picture ;-). Alternating good and bad pages.
What is my setup? I run Fedora 14 with Cups 1.4.6. The printer is a HP Deskjet 940C. It is connected to a linksys wireless print server. It is configured in CUPS to use ipp printing. The driver I use in Cups is 'CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified (color, 2-sided printing)'.

But when I visit http:/localhost ，it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you).
