Fedora :: Need To Install Visit Visualization Software
Dec 20, 2009
I need to install a program called Visit [URL] which is a visualization program. The install can be onerous to say the least so they have created a script to help. [URL]
1. In the Fedora Linux scheme of things where should it be installed?
2. How do I run the script?
While using winamp in windows, you are able to set the visualization to "desktop mode" in which the visualization takes up your icons and covers your desktop while playing music. Is this possible to do in linux?
Fedora 15 uses scidavis (Scientific Data Analysis and Visualization) taken from Fedora 14. If you try to build the native rpm package, an error occurs in building the documentation. A 1-line sed in the spec file solves the problem:
Code: #fix spurious-executable-perm find . -type f -exec chmod 0644 {} ; #fix docbook to adapt different versions of fedora sed -i "s/VER-REL/`rpm -q docbook-dtds|sed "s/^[^0-9]*//;s/.noarch//; s/./\./g"`/" manual/docbook-en/index.docbook # # ---> sed line to fix Fedora15 building: sed -i -e 's/xsl-stylesheets-1.75.2/xsl-stylesheets-1.76.1/' manual/scidavis_html.xsl # #fix default path for fitPlugins sed -i "s/usr/lib/%{name}/plugins\%{_libdir}/%{name}/pluginsg" %{name}/src/ApplicationWindow.cpp sed -i -e 's/Qt;Science;Physics;Math;Graphics;/Education;Science;DataVisualization;Qt/' %{name}/%{name}.desktop

Here is the latest in my saga of me vs. Suspend in Utuntu.
Dell Studio XPS 8000 desktop i7-860 CPU 8 GB RAM swap area set to 9 GB (because I was experimenting with hibernate) nVIdia GeForce GT220 1 GB Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, all patches, nVidia-current 195.36.24
So I was poking around in BIOS and looking at CPU Features. I have also a problem with my VMWare machines sucking up a core or 2 at 100% after suspending and waking the host. Just for the halibut I Disabled CPU Visualization. My VMWare XP guest now starts up a lot faster! (?) and I have discovered. If I do a suspend of the host BEFORE starting and LOGGING IN to a VM it seems to work great. I can wake the host and am presented with the locked screen dialog asking for my password. I have done about 20 suspend/wakes with no problems. So far, so good.
Upon further testing I find that I can start a VMWare or Virtualbox XP guest machine and still suspend/wake - at least so far with a limited number of tries. Most importantly, if I log into the guest (VMWare or Virtualbox) I find that suspend/wake fails 100% of the time. By fail I mean that the host suspends but when I attempt to wake it I find that I am logged out of the host and all programs which were running at suspend time are no longer running. Firefox restores the previous session indicating that it was shut down incorrectly or unexpectedly.
I am Student of RHCE. I have only one machine at my home. to do practice I want Server - Client environment. So Can i use visualization concept? If yes How?
I'm thinking about a OS reinstall, using Ubuntu. OK, presently I have: Old desktop machine with Win Vista installed. I have no Vista disk, so when it's gone, its gone for good. The system is set up with BT using ADSL, with a wireless router included. I can access whats called the BT home hub manager through a URL in a web browser, this gives me all specific information with regards to getting online, router etc. My main concerns are: If i do a complete reinstall (Ubuntu) then will i still be able to configure it all with Ubuntu? I'm thinking that BT will probably not support Linux platforms hence any software coming from (i.e. disk) them would be in the form of Windows binaries, about as much use as a handbrake on a canoe as far as Linux is concerned. So, if i take the plunge then; if i can access BT home hub manager through a URI with all pertinent information displayed there - is that all i need to get me up and running? I mean, reinstall, visit BT home hub manager URI and configure Ubuntu with all settings found there?
Every time when I visit facebook site my system crashes, everything that I have opened just closes and my machine returns to a login screen. This only happens when visiting facebook, and I can't relate this to administrative restrictions because I can visit facebook from other computers within the same network. I am using Scientific Linux 5.4. Where might be the problem?
My computer is running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64). I have set up an apache server there. The version is Apache/2.2.10 (Linux/SUSE) PHP/5.2.14 with Suhosin-Patch mod_python/3.3.1 Python/. It works well. I can reach the server and visit the webpages from other computers. The problem is every computer can visit it. I just want to some people can reach my server by specifying the IP address, or computer name, or whatever else.
I get this error which means I cant visit websites. I cant rm, cp, mv, vi, ... this file. How do I regain the ability to browse the internet? Is there a way I can create a /etc/resolv.conf2 and have my system use that instead?
I am looking for a beat visualizer (for lack of a better word) to use full screen when playing music on my computer. What do I mean by that? I know there are a lot of visualizers out there that create colored swirls and spectrum analyzers and stuff based on the waveform of the music being played (e.g. Goom). But they do not really visualize the music to any great extent. If you play Mozart or if you play Chemical Brothers it does not do all that much of a difference visually.
What I want is a visualizer that reflects the music to some degree, and in particular the main beat. If there is a strong thumping beat I want that to be reflected on the screen at the same time as the beat plays through the speaker. Here is a simple example illustrating what I mean (forward to 1:00): [URL]
Please note that it is not the simplicity in the video I am looking for, it was just that this video did well in illustrating the main principle. If possible I would like to have swirls and smooth animations also (like Goom) but the most important thing is that it should reflect the music in a more direct way and be perfectly synchronized with the beat.
I need to implement operating system level visualization to isolate a application on RHEL 5.5. Which one tool in following for implementation Linux-VServer, lxc, OpenVZ or anyone else.
I'm trying to install Fedora 12 i386 using CD#1 for a minimal install. For that during installation I selected only Base. For some reason when I started installation it was trying to install 432 packages (Base has got about 80 or so packages). i can understand there might be some dependencies, but really that much? I kept going with the installation of 432 packages, but it finally failed on gtk2-immodule-xim-2.18.3-19.fc12.i686.rpm.I need just minimal install, so I can install LXDE later on by myself.
I have been using Redhat/Fedora for 11 years. I don't understand why Fedora 11, can't even do a vga graphical install, when Windows can.
I tried many parameters, including xdriver=vesa, and it cannot used graphical install.
So, I tried text install, which I have done many times in the past.
However, F11 seems crippled, in that it will NOT do the same install achievable from a graphical install.
It will NOT allow the use of fdisk, and it will NOT allow any selection of any packages.
What is the point of this option?
Even after trying all of this, for a dual boot install, and F11 claims to have installed, there is no grub or equivalent, and the computer just boots windows, just like Fedora 11 did absolutely nothing.
What are the options now? Why is text install so crippled and incomplete? Why is standard VGA mode so hard?
I have migrated from Debian to Fedora 14 (2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64). Problem is that I can't get my networked printer to work (which it did with Debian). The printer is Samsung ML-3561ND and I got all he drivers & PPD from Samsung support. I prefer to install the printer with CUPS and not with Samsung Unified Linux install software. I have to send my documents to a user's Windows workstation and print from there I have googled a lot but have not found any solution.
I installed fedora 12 Constantine and the install gets to the point of rebooting once it's done with the reboot it goes right in to the login without creating a root account or a user account. How can I solve this issue, there has to be like 3 or 4 solutions to this problem I'm just new to linux.
I don't have a working DVD burner. I'd like to transfer the FC12 install DVD image to a USB thumb drive, and install from there. Is that reasonably easy to do?ow would I transfer the .iso file for the install image to the USB thumb drive in such a way that I could boot from i
below is what happens when i try to run a install from the command line in virt-install. keep in mind that this is a fresh fedora12 install selinux is disabled logged in as root. i have never had so many problems with something and it is maddening for there to be a thousand freaking how-to's on the subject all acting like it is so freaking simple.
I need a bit of clarification. I've been using Debian based OSes. I just want to make sure that I understand how to install software using Fedora.
While I had the Live DVD desktop running I downloaded the Google Chrome .rpm pack to the download file, right clicked on the .rpm and opened with the archive manager. The archive manager came up and showed me a file folder, the a popup came up on it's own and ask if I wanted to install, clicked yes and every thing from there worked, Chrome was installed and worked. When I tryied to download the plugin for Google and do the same as before, the install popup didn't come up. This is the part where I made a mistake, I went to the download folder and double clicked on the .rpm and the install popup came up, and I installed. This some how messed up the Live desktop to the point that I had to reboot, shut down didn't even work right.
I should have opened the folder the archive manager placed the .rpm and then double clicked on the .rpm to install instead of within the dowload folder.
I aslo read up on how to use rpm -i filename From the terminal can I Or does the .rpm package have to be in the correct folder before installing?
Also from the live dvd I tried using sudo rpm -i , but got a warning and said I would be reported.
what is repository's ? do we need to install repository each time we install any package ?or cant we just say yum install package name ? & how to install tar.gz files ?
This works on an HP DL365 G5, but fails on the DL785 G6Does not even start the install, and I don't get a lot of debug information, so I can't tell what's happening.
My laptop is currently running on Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a 320 GB HDD, which I have partitioned as follows. C: Drive as Windows 40 GB capacity and successively partitioned the rest of the drives for 50 GB capacity and left an unallocated space of 67 GB for fedora 13 x64 installation. The problem that I am facing is, that I am unable to install fedora on this unallocated space..even though I am checking the option for "Creating custom Layout". When I check the option for "Creating Custom Layout" Ive been shown with the only option to install fedora on the unused space on the HDD which is around 265 GB. I am also attaching a screen shot of my disk management. how I can install Fedora on this unallocated space of 67 GB?
This post is for an HP parallel printer but I think it should work for at least "some" other parallel printers.I am sure that someone smarter than me will follow up this post with a "well, just do this and that" and you will have your HP Laserjet 6P printer ready to go, but since questions litter the forums of MANY distros on how to get "at least" an HP parallel printer to work, I'll post this anyway. This may or may not work for you if you do not have an HP but you can try it.The install printer box will let you do an install for an HP Parallel and it asks for how it is to talk to it, through CUPS sock or "local host'. When we get through what I recommend you should chose "local host".
