Every time when I visit facebook site my system crashes, everything that I have opened just closes and my machine returns to a login screen. This only happens when visiting facebook, and I can't relate this to administrative restrictions because I can visit facebook from other computers within the same network.
I am using Scientific Linux 5.4.
Where might be the problem?
i am running RHEL 5.1 with mozilla firefox 3.6.8 and default runlevel is 5. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking about a OS reinstall, using Ubuntu. OK, presently I have: Old desktop machine with Win Vista installed. I have no Vista disk, so when it's gone, its gone for good. The system is set up with BT using ADSL, with a wireless router included. I can access whats called the BT home hub manager through a URL in a web browser, this gives me all specific information with regards to getting online, router etc. My main concerns are: If i do a complete reinstall (Ubuntu) then will i still be able to configure it all with Ubuntu? I'm thinking that BT will probably not support Linux platforms hence any software coming from (i.e. disk) them would be in the form of Windows binaries, about as much use as a handbrake on a canoe as far as Linux is concerned. So, if i take the plunge then; if i can access BT home hub manager through a URI with all pertinent information displayed there - is that all i need to get me up and running? I mean, reinstall, visit BT home hub manager URI and configure Ubuntu with all settings found there?

I've been on a quest to enable full routing through my openvpn tunnel between my office and the colo. Masquerading will work, however it will throw off anything key based and makes a lot of things just more difficult and vague in general. Is there an easy way to do this via iptables? The version is Apache/2.2.10 (Linux/SUSE) PHP/5.2.14 with Suhosin-Patch mod_python/3.3.1 Python/. It works well. I can reach the server and visit the webpages from other computers. The problem is every computer can visit it. I just want to some people can reach my server by specifying the IP address, or computer name, or whatever else.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.
For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?
New to ubuntu but have use Suse 11.2 a bit. I downloaded a Spanish dictionary to Openoffice on suse with no problems. Under the tools in Openoffice word it says Languages "other dictionaries available". Click on it and it takes you to a site with all types of foriengs language dictionaries. I found the mexico spanish dictionary and it said get it. On suse it downloaded it and it auto installed it with a program in Yast I believe. Anyway the dictionary was in there when I opened office the next time.
Ubuntu is a different story, I can download it but do not know how to install the Spanish dictionary file to the OpenOffice. Is their a program included with ubuntu (gnome) desktop that will load this file and set it up in Office?
Maybe a site-to-site Ouija board connection.

Chromium v.7 + Ubuntu 10.04 + Sun Java 6 + Webcam + Facebook + Flash 10 = non-functional
All of those items listed above are potential points of failure in this situation, and any help narrowing them down would be fantastic. I am simply trying to enable webcame support directly through Facebooks website.
Forum searches and the usual googling turn up few posts related to this specific equation. Two of the major suggestions include:
1) Installing the Sun (I refuse to say oracle sob)-provided Java implementation instead of the OpenJDK normally installed in Ubuntu. And yes, after installing it, I did update all my default supports to use the sun commands over the openjdk.
2) Somehow enabling Facebook as a permitted site to access my webcam using Flash settings.
I have not been able to explore option 2 because I cannot find a way to adjust the Flash settings in chromium 7.

I am not sure as to why but rhythmbox actually freezes the system. I am unable to get into another desktop by pressing control-alt-F1, F2 etc. I am not sure how to diagnose this problem. View 3 Replies View RelatedI upgraded not so long ago from version 9.10 to 10.04. What never happened before then started. I have system crashes all the time. When I play Solitaire, use Firefox and copy files.
I use ubuntu now for several years (at least since 8.04) and I never had a system crash before. I have a P5P800SE motherboard, a celeron 3.06 GHz processor and use 512 MB of memory. Ubuntu is installed under windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 3.
If not I will return to version 9.10 and wait for version 10.10.
I have an old PC in my basement that I decided to load Ubuntu onto a few months ago. I ran version 9 for a while and then recently upgraded to10.04.Unfortunately, I've been having issues with intermittent system crashes using both versions. Sometimes the computer will work fine for hours and other times it will crash 20 seconds after startup. I'll be able to provide much more information tonight when I get home but for now I wanted to plant the seed in the forum and see if anyone has any ideas.The computer will be working fine and then all of a sudden the screen will go black and then start blinking, switching between a blank screen and a blank screen with a bunch of tiny white squares/lines. When I restart, things seem okay again.
