View 6 Replies View RelatedI am impressed with the visuals of both Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6, but unfortunately I've been experiencing a very annoying issue since my install of 10.04 two days ago.
When I begin a Firefox session (using profile manager, in case it might have any relevance to the issue) it moves at lightning speed for the first five or so pages. Then, if I try a website it will time out (I have tried various pages, so it is not a page-specific issue) forcing me to refresh the page, wait roughly ten seconds, and finally be back on the initial page.
I am too lazy to re-list my PC stats, but they can be found in my signature. I am running on a household network, with the average connection speed ranging from from 40-80%.
The only other Ubuntu release I have used is Jaunty, where Firefox 3.0 (was it really 3.0 back then?) worked perfectly.
I have installed Google Chrome as well, and it seems to have the same relative issue, but it manages to recover from the timeouts quickly.
My only thought is perhaps it is an internal Internet setting that is disturbing the browser(s), potentially a default setting that has been modified since 9.04?

View 4 Replies View RelatedOn FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Canoscan LiDE 30 scanner which works fine in Linux. I haven't used it in months, and never since moving from Jaunty x86_64 to Fedora 11 x86_64. This evening I suddenly need to scan two pages to send to someone via e-mail, and the recipient is desperate to receive them. Naturally, Xsane has decided this is the moment to screw me.
The problem: I cannot figure out how to tell Xsane that the page size is 8.5 11. It insists on scanning only the left side, 3.99 x 11. I cannot find a page size anywhere in any of the buttons.
In Preview I once got it to scan the entire page, but could not figure out how to save the image to file. Subsequently I have not been able to figure out how I did it. In any event, scanning from the small main window always scans 3.99 x 11. Adjusting the scan area manually in the Preview window allows me to change the size area in the small main window to 8.5 x 11, but when I then scan from the small main window it reverts to 3.99 x 11.
I have scanned the document a hundred times at least, each time trying different buttons, but nothing has succeeded in getting the full page.
I have installed Fedora 15 but find that there is no option for setting the Refresh Rate in Display Settings. This is needed since when I set the Screen Resolution to 1024 x 768, the vertical scroll bar goes out of the screen.

But the refresh rate is too low at 60hz, and my eyes are uncomfortable.

I have been using Windows on my laptop, but recently switch to Fedora 14. However, there seems to be a screen refresh rate issue that i didn't encounter when using Windows. The symptom is that when I scroll down through the browser page, the content become gibberish and unreadable. I have to do a refresh to read that content.
I did some searching on the Internet and found that it may be able to fix by updating driver, but i have no idea what and how to do it. can someone suggest a solution? can i use yum?

I'm having a problem with my monitor's refresh rate after the most recent round of updates issued on March 6. When I login after a period of inactivity my monitor's refresh rate is set at 60 Hz, even though I always keep it set at 85 Hz.So I have to go in and change the refresh rate back to 85 Hz every time I log in to my computer.This has only started happening after the most recent updates.I tried downgrading X to a previous version but that did not fix the problem. I have an Nvidia graphics card and am using the Nouveau driver.Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to stay max 3 releases behind with Fedora, and now it is time to upgrade from a well behaving Fedora 8 to Fedora 11, not to slip too far behind. I have an Intel motherboard with a 82865G video chip. My display is a BenQ FP731. Fedora 8 the display works nicely giving 1280x1024 resolution at 72 Hz. On Fedora 11 the 865G chip ensists on setting the refresh rate to 75 Hz. I have copied the xorg.conf I use in Fedora 8 to /etc/x11/xorg.conf in the Fedora 11 installation. The chip sets itself to 60 Hz or 75 Hz, but not the desired 72 Hz which would give clear picture. What am I missing here?

I am having trouble setting my refresh rate higher than 85 hz. Any Way to get it to 100 hz?
Tried so far:
- a lot of googling
- added a modeline to xorg.conf
- reinstalled nvidia driver
- tried the screen on a windows desktop, this worked so the monitor is fine

onitor: Iiyama Vision master pro 510 (should be capable of doing 104 hz at 1600 x 1200, max resolution 2048 x 1536)
graphics card: Geforce 9800gt

What it does is, if you do something to change anything on the screen, for example, highlighting text, or switching from one tab/menu in an application to another. The screen doesn't show the change. The only way to SEE the change is to do something else to the screen, like grabbing and moving the application around, or scrolling the page of a website, etc. If you don't do that, you won't see what's really on the screen, but rather what WAS on the screen.
Another example:
*) say you have an application open with 3 tabs: tab1, tab2, and tab3.
*) Switch from tab1 to tab2 and you see no change on the screen.
*) Switch from tab2 to tab3 and you see tab 2 on the screen, NOT tab 3.
*) Switch from tab3 to tab 2 and you see tab3 on the screen, and NOT tab2.
Or, if you're typing in this box to make a post, and you hit ctrl+a to select all, you see no change. If you click in the box to deselect all, then it looks like you've selected all text still. The only way to see what's currently on the screen is to scroll the text box or page just a bit, or, if you're using an application, then you'd have to move it around on the screen a bit.
As i've said, the nVidia drivers are installed and working, as well as compiz, etc.

Also, i did BOTH the dracut thing, and the extra kernel paramter in the grub.conf. So, nouveau is blacklisted. Oddly enough though, i do NOT have this problem when using the nouveau driver...
Also, fwiw, i think that i should mention that i'm not using the "Desktop Settings > Enable Desktop Effects" method, because i always seem to have problems with getting certain features to work, like the background for the cube skydome, etc. How i do it is that i install a package called compiz-manager, and i have it set to run at session start. This makes all of the compiz features work fine. One thing that i've noticed though, is that on my other workstation, i haven't set that up yet, and it seems that is is NOT having the same issue. While compiz-manager was running, i tried to use the "desktop settings" method, and it crapped out and reverted back to the old school desktop. I then tried it again, and it reloaded compiz, and there is no screen update issues now. So it seems that you have to have both of them running in order to get all of the compiz options to work, and not have the screen refresh issue?
I have laptop with Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics. Gnome 3 works more or less fine until I start Skype. When Skype is running switching between the windows is a pain in the a$$. The screen flickers, looks crappy, takes ages to refresh, etc. Anyone experience similar things? I also noticed that when I start yumex I also get the screen doing the same things as with Skype, but to a much lesser extent and only for a few seconds. i am able to try ubuntu and everything works fine until i try to install. the menu comes up to the first page where it tells you to plug in your machine and make sure there is enough disk space and network connectivity. when i hit next on this page the mouse icon changes but the next page never loads. the longest i let it hang there was 2 hours. ive tried multiple times with the same result.

I have a problem printing to my HP printer.
What is my problem? I have a page (one page - text an graphic) to print. When I sent it to my printer it prints OK. When I sent it agian, the output is totally garbled. When I sent it again (a third time) it is OK. Sent it again (4th time) it is garbled. Sent it again ... you get the picture ;-). Alternating good and bad pages.
What is my setup? I run Fedora 14 with Cups 1.4.6. The printer is a HP Deskjet 940C. It is connected to a linksys wireless print server. It is configured in CUPS to use ipp printing. The driver I use in Cups is 'CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.6 Simplified (color, 2-sided printing)'.

It will either print the whole page with advertisements and all when i select print from the file menu up top or it will only print what is showing on the screen and cut off the rest of the words in the e-mail that are not showing on the screen, when i select print icon within the e-mail.
