View 2 RepliesI am currently looking for an app that can enable me to convert ms word and/or openoffice docs into an ebook format compatible with Kindle (I have been using mobipocket creator on Windows to convert to .mobi but I am now trying to get rid of Windows completly), so far the only possibility I have found is Calibre and it wont allow me to cnvert Word docs into another format.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a text file of a book I want to read on an ereader. The problem is that within the file there are page numbers and headers that make it look like this: Code: But then, getting into the heat of the work, 580 ANNA KARENINA and seeing how diligently and zealously Veslovsky pulled the cart by the splash-board, so that he even broke it off... o as you can see the header and page numbers break up sentences which makes it annoying to read.
I managed to use the find a replace tool in VIM to remove the page numbers and the header and join the lines together (If anyone is interested how I did it, let me know and I can post this. Although I admit that I probably did it in a very convoluted way). So now it looks like this:
Code: But then, getting into the heat of the work, seeing how diligently and zealously Veslovsky pulled the cart by the splash-board, so that he even broke it off... But now it has joined some lines I didn't want joined (ie lines where a page break fell at the same place as a paragraph break). So some parts look like this (the XI being the number of the next section):
Code: 'A fine marsh! Veslovsky must have hampered you. It's inconvenient for two with one dog,' said Stepan Arkadyich, softening his triumph.XI When Levin and Stepan Arkadyich came to the cottage of the muzhik with whom Levin always stayed... My question is: is there a way to use an if statement or something to ensure that it formats the book correctly. For example, could I get vim (or something else for that matter) to check to see whether the line ends with a period or a quotation mark, and next line begins with a capital letter or another quotation mark and exempt those lines from the join command?
I just updated to Calibre version 0.7.44 in Debian testing, on an amd64 system. Conversion worked with previous version, but now Calibre freezes as soon as I choose convert individual book. When I run top, I see that python is taking 100% of the cpu. The only way to stop calibre, which shows a grey screen, is to kill python. I got this message in the terminal after it shuts down;
[Code]...
If there is not way to fix this, Is there a way I can just reinstall the previous version of Calibre, even though only the new version is listed when I check in synaptic?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a Prestigio Libretto Per3362b Ebook Reader from Amazon. According to the instruction sent with it I am supposed to connect it to a computer via a usb port and to press the power button to turn on/off the device. It is supposed to take 12 hours for the first time. These instructions make no sense to me (do I turn it on or off and how do I know if it's on or off?) and pushing the button seems to have no visible effect on the reader (no lights go on, etc.). Charging the thing for 12 hours has no obvious effect. Can anyone walk me through the initial charging operation?
View 4 Replies View RelatedReading and revising LaTex 20-page documents seems to be much more easier with a printout (hardcopy) then reading them off a screen. However, I cannot edit the document in real-time (just scrabble comments on the paper) which is cumbersome.
So it there a tablet or even better an ebook device (with e-ink which is easier on the eyes) where I can read document similarly to a printout and edit them in real-time?
Which cataloging app would you recommend? I have ebooks in pdf, chm, epub etc. Currently testing tellico. Tags fetching and auto opening the book would be a bonus.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe spell checker on my installation of open office 3.0 writer in Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 doesn't work. I have been through the options route, following the buit in help and set to english. That didn't work. I have been online, using the link from inside the program, and put a new version of the dictionary on my desktop and added it and that didn't work either. I have also reinstalled the whole thing via synaptic and that didn't work either. Using abword in the meantime but would rather have open office working again. In all three cases the gui seems to think all is well but when I check a page of garbage words am told that the check is complete. I can not use the enable tab as writer seems to think that the dictionary is present and enabled anyway. Does anyone know what may be wrong in my setup or have a fix for this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAm having issues with compatibility b/w OO Writer and MS Word. I desperately need to use track changes, and would love to abandon MS Word altogether. However, using OO Writer, any tracked changes I make to MS Word documents do not translate well. In MS Word, the changes are there (I can view the initial document, and the final document), but there is no way to see the combination (i.e, a marked up copy).
Can anyone tell me whether this is normal, or whether it is just me? Once I get comments and tracked changes working perfectly, I should be able to switch completely. But until then, I must stick with MS for work.
I have the problem that whenever I write something it freezes up the window, my processor use rise to 100% and then it crash showing the OpenOffice.org crash-screen. This only happens in Writer and not Spreadsheets, Presentation refuses to start.
Info about the system:
OpenOffice:
OpenOffice.org 3.2.0
OOO320m12 (Build:9483)
[Code].....
Edit: Reinstalling the entire package and rebooting did not fix this issue.
In previous versions of Ubuntu and OpenOffice.org I could easily dock the navigator to the right or left side of the screen by simply moving it there. A faded outline would be created and it would snap into place. In 10.04, I can't do this. Does anyone know how to dock the navigator in OpenOffice.org?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my table, whenever I enter true or false in any cell, Writer changes it to all Caps, so true becomes TRUE and false becomes FALSE. Now I did not set the cell type to BOOLEAN. If I do Format > Change Case > Lowercase it changes, but reverts to all caps the next time the document is opened. I have checked autocomplete, autocorrect, table number format but seem to change this behaviour.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new LG SuperMulti cd/dvd/rw. It came with a garden variety drive install disk for Windows. I threw that in the garbage and began a online and Ubuntu/ LG software driver search. This amounted to heresy since all I could find was "does'nt work for sh%t with Linux" and " no drivers found for this product". Strange thing when I put in a music cd it plays fine. When I pop in a dvd an icon appears on the desktop as if to prompt me to play it. When I double click or right click<open> it only shows files and when I go to run one of them a pop-up box say it does not recognize resource. I downloaded VLC tried, used Ubuntu default Mplayer but no good either. Tried AutoRun Prompt and even opening movie with Avidemux.

View 3 Replies View RelatedOpen two different instances of OpenOffice Writer (two separate entries on the task bar). In one of them type the word test and highlight it and leave it that way. Now using the mouse pointer try switching between these two different OpenOffice Writers on the task bar. There shouldn't be much of a switching delay if any, going either way.
Now go to the OpenOffice Writer with "test" highlighted. Hit the <ctrl>C (copy) key about five times rapidly, then immediately click the mouse on the other OpenOffice Writer on the task bar. I am seeing up to a 5 second dead time delay between switching. There is no "busy" indication from the mouse pointer. The mouse pointer moves, but any clicks will not take effect during the 5 second delay, then any mouse clicks quickly take effect in a cascade after the delay is over.
Sometimes Klipper looses the <ctrl>C (copy) "test" text (Klipper still displays it its history) and refuses to <ctrl>V (paste) "test" any longer. When Klipper reaches this state a single <ctrl>C (copy) of "test" will cause the up to 5 second delay when switching.
The delay is only noticeable if you immediately switch on the task bar. If I do the copies and simply wait at least 5 seconds before switching, there is no delay. So, the switching itself isn't the cause.
I have reproduced this on PCs in a 32 bit 11.2 install and a 64 bit 11.2 install. Both installs are KDE 4.3.3 release 3 repos. Either this long delay shouldn't be happening or the mouse should at least do its busy indication thing and not act like everything is normal when it isn't.
