Debian :: Calibre Ebook Software Freezes When Trying To Convert
Feb 25, 2011
I just updated to Calibre version 0.7.44 in Debian testing, on an amd64 system. Conversion worked with previous version, but now Calibre freezes as soon as I choose convert individual book. When I run top, I see that python is taking 100% of the cpu. The only way to stop calibre, which shows a grey screen, is to kill python. I got this message in the terminal after it shuts down;
[Code]...
If there is not way to fix this, Is there a way I can just reinstall the previous version of Calibre, even though only the new version is listed when I check in synaptic?
Code: Select allmax@max-debian:~$ lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
[Code] ....
But this is my output of calibre debug device detection
I was wondering if there is/are any software for ubuntu using which i can write ebooks? Or the only way is write it on the Word Processor and then export to PDF?
I just installed Calibre, but it doesn't start. It just gives the waiting clock for a moment, and then the pointer again. Does anyone know how I can get this program to work?
I'M trying to install a e-book reader called Caliber Ebook managment using the info they have on the HP: wget -O- http://status.calibre-ebook.com/dist/src | tar xvz cd calibre* sudo python setup.py install
And get this message
[sudo] password for zoku: Sorry, try again. [sudo] password for zoku:
zoku is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported. I have no Idea what the SUdoers are and why i'm not in them.
I'd like to install the program Calibre, which does have a Linux installation, but I haven't the faintest idea how to do it. I don't even know how to find out if I have the requirements or not. Here is the link, if anyone can shed some light. [URL]
I installed 10.10 on this (new) system a couple of months ago. Haven't had it attached to the network for a couple of months (for viewing documents) Yesterday I did connect, let Update Manager do its thing (installed ~180MB of updates). Everything went fine. Today, was planning on installing Calibre on this and couldn't remember what version I had installed, so I checked...
> System > About Ubuntu now reports that I have 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) installed. I thought 11.04 wasn't to be released until April 2011.Everything running fine (no obvious changes on the desktop at all)...
Recently I tried to install calibre ebook management software from the Ubuntu Software center and it installed fine as expected, ran fine from the applications menu as expected (for the initial run) went through the wizard and clicked next. All of a sudden I was presented with a login prompt. I thought I must have hit a hot key accidentally, so I logged in and it restarted fresh not like the desktop was locked. So I ran calibre again and it did the same thing. I uninstalled calibre and went about compiling from source, after all of the dependencies were met and it compiled and installed ran it again and it logged me out again.
I'm quite in acquaintance wit C,C++,Java etc. And have been using Ubuntu for quite a long time. how develop applications, Applications like calibre, Etc. I've also installed Eclipse, completely ignorant of it utilisation.
I am currently looking for an app that can enable me to convert ms word and/or openoffice docs into an ebook format compatible with Kindle (I have been using mobipocket creator on Windows to convert to .mobi but I am now trying to get rid of Windows completly), so far the only possibility I have found is Calibre and it wont allow me to cnvert Word docs into another format.
Using openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), KDE environment. I am very, very new and inexperienced with Linux... I would like to download and read some e-books using my desktop PC. I poked around the Internet with Google and found several recommendations for an e-book reader called Calibre. So I found it in the openSUSE repository and installed v. 0.6.53-3.3.1 using YaST2. But the darned thing does not seem to work -- I click on the icon and nothing happens!!
I wrote a document using LibreOffice Writer. It has heading styles and a generated table of contents.I saved the document to ODT and as PDF. I loaded the PDF into Caliber as an e-Book.
I converted the PDF to EPUB format for Nook(tm) devices. I stored the EPUB to my 'droid phone and loaded it into an EPUB reader. VIOLA! I can see the table of contents as page #1. I cannot see any other pages in the EPUB. I can read the original PDF just fine.
Q1. What must I do along the way so that I have a useful EPUB? (I don't need fancy just complete and readable.) Q2. Are their things that I need to do to the PDF in Calibre? Q3. Are there things I need to do in LibreOffice Writer or to the generated PDF before I convert it to EPUB with Calibre?
I've just bought a Prestigio Libretto Per3362b Ebook Reader from Amazon. According to the instruction sent with it I am supposed to connect it to a computer via a usb port and to press the power button to turn on/off the device. It is supposed to take 12 hours for the first time. These instructions make no sense to me (do I turn it on or off and how do I know if it's on or off?) and pushing the button seems to have no visible effect on the reader (no lights go on, etc.). Charging the thing for 12 hours has no obvious effect. Can anyone walk me through the initial charging operation?
Reading and revising LaTex 20-page documents seems to be much more easier with a printout (hardcopy) then reading them off a screen. However, I cannot edit the document in real-time (just scrabble comments on the paper) which is cumbersome.
So it there a tablet or even better an ebook device (with e-ink which is easier on the eyes) where I can read document similarly to a printout and edit them in real-time?
I have a text file of a book I want to read on an ereader. The problem is that within the file there are page numbers and headers that make it look like this: Code: But then, getting into the heat of the work, 580 ANNA KARENINA and seeing how diligently and zealously Veslovsky pulled the cart by the splash-board, so that he even broke it off... o as you can see the header and page numbers break up sentences which makes it annoying to read.
I managed to use the find a replace tool in VIM to remove the page numbers and the header and join the lines together (If anyone is interested how I did it, let me know and I can post this. Although I admit that I probably did it in a very convoluted way). So now it looks like this:
Code: But then, getting into the heat of the work, seeing how diligently and zealously Veslovsky pulled the cart by the splash-board, so that he even broke it off... But now it has joined some lines I didn't want joined (ie lines where a page break fell at the same place as a paragraph break). So some parts look like this (the XI being the number of the next section):
Code: 'A fine marsh! Veslovsky must have hampered you. It's inconvenient for two with one dog,' said Stepan Arkadyich, softening his triumph.XI When Levin and Stepan Arkadyich came to the cottage of the muzhik with whom Levin always stayed... My question is: is there a way to use an if statement or something to ensure that it formats the book correctly. For example, could I get vim (or something else for that matter) to check to see whether the line ends with a period or a quotation mark, and next line begins with a capital letter or another quotation mark and exempt those lines from the join command?
Which cataloging app would you recommend? I have ebooks in pdf, chm, epub etc. Currently testing tellico. Tags fetching and auto opening the book would be a bonus.
I thought this would only merit a google. but all methods seem overtly complicated. I have a bunch of folders filled with .doc files and I need them to convert to plain .txt files. Is there a program I can download from the repositories, or a command I can use to do this?
I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.
I'm trying to use convert, I have installed the imagemagick. I use this line:convert *.jpg test.pdf but I'm only able to convert to pdf 1 single jpg file, not multiple files at once. When there's more than one file, I get the following error: Segmentation fault
I read through more of this thread than I wanted to. [URL] ....
Does libav provide command line utilities to do something like converting ovg to avi, or determining the length of an mp3 file? Why is there absolutely no explanation as to why libav was preferred over ffmeg?
