I installed sun virtual box 3.1 by double clicking on its .deb package and it said it has been successfully installed, but I can't see it in the applications menu, what's wrong ? It's listed under synaptic package as installed after completing the installation

Is there anyway to delete them manually?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and an old problem has come back. For some reason I couldn't fix it even in my previous installation. The problem is the top gnome panel. See the photo below: As you can see, the network icon is not shown properly while the Me menu is being shown twice. I can't even restart or log out or shut down at this situation without pressing the keystroke to turn the power off.

i just listening a song on vlc and read this thread. [URL]... After reading complete thread i just off vlc and then start installing software with instructions given in the thread. When google earth installed. i just use google earth only 10 minutes and then again play a song. then vlc looks like this. Screenshot.png and no video playing. no main menu show. What it happen? i try to remove it. sudo apt-get remove vlc and again install it sudo apt-get install vlc
same result.

and install again same result.
i just want to vlc its default condition.
I am using fedora 12 genome. I install open office 3.. by these command:
1- tar xvzf OOo_3.0.0_LinuxIntel_install_xxxxxx.tar.gz
2- su to root
3- cd into the RPMS( where all RPMS package were present)
4- BY RPMS auto installer. I install all package.
There are two folder in my "/opt" folder. openoffice.org and openoffice.org3. But office is not shown in application start menu, but when we check it by add/remove software option this is show that it install.
Is there a programmatic way to get the list of all installed applications on Linux.
Also, how can we get the application activities in Linux OS like running applications name, time of day when they started, duration till the applications were running on system, application version etc.
Is there a way to do this in C/C++.
I am building an app that runs like a daemon and fetches the applications status and sends it to the network admin for him to monitor the application usage pattern on the user computers in the network.
I did some modification of fstab, and works, but for some strange reason, there are drives shown in the Places menu that shouldn't be there when the drives (they are usb drives) are unplugged. I had to put them in fstab, because they are mp3 players and I need user privelages in order to sync them. With nothing plugged in the usb ports,I checked, and they aren't shown in mtab, and only Sansa-e260 and JOSHS PHONE are shown in fstab, although as far as I know, they shouldn't appear in Places when unmounted. Is there a way to reset it?

I installed the Global Menu Bar applet for my top panel, thus removing the menu bar from most, if not, all of my apps on Ubuntu. I removed the applet, mainly because of how God-Awful and inconvenient it was. Now, I don't have any menu bars on my apps!

Virtualbox just flickers the edge of the screen. Virtualbox has worked before, and i'm reluctant to delete it as I have another machine installed. Skype has never worked, and even when I have reinstalled, the same happens.

So, i've rebuilded all VirtualBox dependencies with safe flags, then i've recompiled most of the sys-* packages also with safe flags. However VirtualBox still doesn't work.

I use ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop pc and i have on my laptop installed Windows XP with Office 2007. The office suite has been activated for the third and last time, because windows crashed on me twice before, prompting my move to linux. while this third activation of office is still working i was wondering if there was some way to salvage this activation, so i don't lose it should it fail, which it most likely will at some point in the future. i was thinking if there was a software that could copy an already installed operating system and turn it into a virtual machine. That software would of course have to run in an windows environment.
I know i can use openoffice, and i do. Its great to get things done quickly, but my college course is specific to office 2007, and i have to memorise the interface to be able to write up procedures from memory.I'm not sure but xp is probably very hardware specific so as long as i run that virtual machine on my laptop with a linux distro i should be fine.
First off, I don't know whether this is a Ubuntu error or a Virtualbox error or what, so I put this in General I installed Ubuntu 10.10 in a VirtualBox 4.0.4 VM. It all went well, and I set everything up, and customized Ubuntu- then shut the VM down. But I just booted the thing up, and I'm back at the Try/Install Ubuntu Screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal on Virtualbox 4.0.6 (host OS is Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick) and for some reason the Global Menu does not follow the theme selected in appearances. By this I mean that no matter what theme I select the Global Menu resembles something like a Windows 95 theme, I presume a default basic theme. This also applies to the 'Home Folder' icon in the launcher and the corresponding icons in the home folder itself.
Has anyone else come across this and does anyone know how to correct it? I have also posted on the Virtualbox forums, but judging by the number of people logged on at the time I fancy my chances here better.
This may be elementary to some, and prolly should to me. Quiet awhile ago I took off wine and deleted EVERYTHING wine from my /home. Now I want to try wine again, and I know it's installed, but it don't show up in applications. I've tried "edit menus > revert" but that don't work. I hear wine has made some progress and don't want to format my /home partition.
