I'm new to openSUSE just installed a chess program using YaST2 software installer. The program is called phalanx. It doesn't show up in the application menu in KDE Desktop and I don't know how to start the program.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and an old problem has come back. For some reason I couldn't fix it even in my previous installation. The problem is the top gnome panel. See the photo below: As you can see, the network icon is not shown properly while the Me menu is being shown twice. I can't even restart or log out or shut down at this situation without pressing the keystroke to turn the power off.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated my GRUB config. I reordered some menu items and set openSUSE as default OS.When I boot into openSUSE, I am no longer greeted by Geeko when openSUSE is loading. I only see text from the boot procedure scroll by like it's still the 90s. While there's a certain coolness in seeing openSUSE switch to runlevel 5 and all that jazz, I want my chameleon back.A few weeks ago, I configured openSUSE to boot with flag vga=0x3ef so that it would boot with my preferred resolution immediately. This used to work fine. Since this morning, openSUSE crashes when X is attempting to start. I can still boot into openSUSE by removing that flag, but even then I still don't see the chameleon.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did some modification of fstab, and works, but for some strange reason, there are drives shown in the Places menu that shouldn't be there when the drives (they are usb drives) are unplugged. I had to put them in fstab, because they are mp3 players and I need user privelages in order to sync them. With nothing plugged in the usb ports,I checked, and they aren't shown in mtab, and only Sansa-e260 and JOSHS PHONE are shown in fstab, although as far as I know, they shouldn't appear in Places when unmounted. Is there a way to reset it?

After reading complete thread i just off vlc and then start installing software with instructions given in the thread. When google earth installed. i just use google earth only 10 minutes and then again play a song. then vlc looks like this. Screenshot.png and no video playing. no main menu show. What it happen? i try to remove it. sudo apt-get remove vlc and again install it sudo apt-get install vlc
same result.

and install again same result.
i just want to vlc its default condition.
I normally run 11.3 with the desktop "folder view" but thought I would try something different - I think it was the search and launch view. After playing with it for a while I wanted to change back but found that right clicking on the desktop no longer launches the usual menu. If I change to "netbook form" rather than desktop, the menu is there, but even rebooting has not fixed the problem.

However, I'm loving what I'm seeing with suse/kde combo. I'm planning on making an extensive right-click menu to categorize all my applications. Basically I want to have the "start" menu available to me when I right-click. I've google casually for a couple days and haven't found much that helps, but I think its because I'm not using the correct keywords seeing as I'm new to this environment.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a [Desktop Entry], but I'm not sure how to handle hierarchy and stuff like that.

View 2 Replies View Relatedeven though this is a simple task I always have problems to do this.I want to execute the following#!/bin/bashjava -jar JabRef-2.6.jaror in other words this is the command I use in konsole to make the application to launch.Then usully I try to create a desktop in the icon either by using a. create link to locationorb. create link to application.where I select as file the file myfile.sh that contains the two lines of code I posted above (see again below)

I have installed Xubuntu 11.04 to dual boot with older LTS version. When booting 11.04 it auto shows LTS root & home volumes on desktop. I wish to hide them (home encrypted anyway.)

I recently preformed a full update to my openSuSe 11.3 x64 + gnome install. Everything was running fine before the update however post a number of features have stopped working or have changed. I used the command zypper up to update everything. The errors I've been recieving are as follows, Wastebasket
Won't open on via Desktop or Places menu. Gives the following error "Could not display "trash:" File Is Of An Unknown Type". If I drop things on the Wastebasket the files do go to /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash/files but I can't Empty Wastebasket upon right click as the option is highlighted out.
Computer Icon If I try to open it from link in Places menu I get the error Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.. The link to it has also disappeared from the left hand panel if I have a Nautilus window open.
Mounted Icons Previously I used to have 4 drives mounted;
1 network (NFS),
1 encrypted (TrueMount),
2 Windows (partitions of main machine)
Out of these only the encrypted and network drive showed on the Desktop and two Windows drives would stay mounted under /windows but have no icon on the Desktop. After the update, all these drives are on the desktop and but the only way to not have them appear on Desktop is to set Gnome config not to show any of the icons on Desktop. Although these are independent errors, they are all related to folders (at least indirectly) so I felt it was better to group them together to give a better picture of the issue.
Some minimized apps no longer appear in the top menu and by that are no longer accessible.For example firefox with the minimize addon or Jungel Disk backup service.How can I reach apps that minimized them self and are not shown in the top menu?
