I am running thunderbird in lucid (64 bits) and I manage two hotmail account from it. One of them is fetching messages twice, meanwhile the other one works fine...is it double space in hard disk? Each message is repeated and one of the couple is marked as unread (new)...
View 3 RepliesI just installed ubuntu for the first time today, and setup Evolution to check my email from my hotmail account. All went fine, I downloaded all my emails from the last 7 years but then when I actually logged in to my email account on hotmail.com all of my messages were gone and my inbox empty. I was hoping that it would downlaod a copy of my messages - I still want a copy in my hotmail inbox for backup just in case something happens to my computer. Anyway, so my question is there a way to put them back into my hotmail account? I know its not as though I have lost them forever, I just would like the last 7 years of important emails on there in just in case.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just synchronized my hotmail account with evolution and it works flawlessly, however every time I click send-receive it stars to download mail by mail (more than 10,000, so it takes a while) and it won't check if I got new messages until it is done. The first time it happened I thought it was a normal thing, and that evo won't scan ever again from my hotmail account. Does anyone know how to stop doing that?
I have another brief question, I would like to know if there's a way that when I read a message on evolution it will also mark as read the same message on my hotmail account.
I'm running GNOME under Lucid on a 64-bit machine. Here's the background: Yesterday, I tried to delete a subfolder of my Local Folders directory. Right-clicking on the subfolder offered the usual menu of options including "Delete", but selecting "Delete" left the folder in place. In floundering around trying things to solve the problem, I tried opening Thunderbird from the command line, using "sudo thunderbird", following which I succeeded in deleting the recalcitrant subfolder. Here's the first stage in the problem:
But when I next opened Thunderbird in ordinary mode (i.e., as "ron" not as "superuser"), I discovered that the Inbox was no longer accessible. Clicking on "Get Mail" yielded only a small wheel-icon that spins, presumably showing activity in progress, without actually finishing by getting mail. The other various folders seemed to operate normally, in that they showed their contents when clicked on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use kmail for fetching and sending mails from my gmail account. The inbox stuffs are saved in ~/.kde/share/ apps/kmail/mail/inbox . It is not saved in encrypted form. One can open it with any editor. Is there a way to make kmail save those fetched messages in encrypted form and when I open the kmail it will show me those mails in decrypted form?

I have checked all the folders in evolution and tried showing hidden message (from the view menu) while looking in each folder in case I had managed to do something really weird by mistake, but they appear to have vanished. The message I dragged over to the new folder is however there!
The other weird thing is that the trash folder has randomly partially emptied itself at the same time, and it is not set to empty itself on exiting the program.What have I done and how do I get them back??? I don't care about the trash but need the inbox messages back.
Everything seems to be set up right, I can send mail and everything, but... When it comes to retrieving my mail, it fetched everything from up to about a week and a half ago, and then stopped while displaying "error fetching messages." I don't understand this... Obviously, this means that I won't be able to receive any new messages, which is pretty critical for a mail client. So what's the beef? The last email it will show me is an email from April 22nd. I use Yahoo and have an @sbcglobal address. pop.att.yahoo.com is input for receiving, and smtp.att.yahoo.com is input for sending. I can't seem to find anything that has been input wrong, so... IDK, I'm at a loss for an explanation for this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with Thunderbird in Ubuntu Lucid. I am not sure since when. It could have been since I upgraded to Lucid from Karmic. When I open Thunderbird, a message pops up that is supposed to ask me for the password. However, it is all blank inside and doesn't display the text. I found that after I click on ALT+TAB a few times, the message displays correctly. This is very strange. Is anyone else having (or had) the same problem? Does anyone have an idea for a fix?I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling but it didn't work out (I didn't "purge" though).
View 4 Replies View RelatedProblem-cannot mount 2 other samba computers on my ubuntu 10.04 via 'sudo mountall'. Additionally I now get Firefox/Thunderbird error messages as listed below. Had no problems with ubuntu UNTIL I attempted install of VirtualBox running WinXP client in my Ubuntu host. VirtualBox seemed to install ok but upon startup of WinXP client all I got was a black screen. To close it I had to do "Power Off" which VBox manual says is like a hard power off and is to be avoided. So I guess it's like I crashed XP within Ubuntu.
Now - ubuntu boots ok except will not auto mount other samba connected computers. Manually running 'sudo mountall' in terminal gives --

I have two accnts in Thunderbird 3.1.10 in Lucid 64bit - gmail and itt-tech.edu (smtp.live.com). I removed apparmor because of the bug not allowing the file system to be mounted. I can send via gmail, not smtp.live.com. Smtp settings are correct. Any security package setting that might be hindering this mail send action?I have UFW installed.

Right now it's getting my incoming messages perfectly using POP but I'm not syncing to my sent messages which is an issue because I have a lot of important stuff in my sent mail inside of gmail. Before I had it all in thunderbird (don't remember how) but I decided to try thunderbird 3 (couldn't keep it because calendar kept screwing up) so I downgraded and now I can't get those messages to show up again. I checked gmail and those sent messages are still there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA long time ago Thunderbird had a plugin that blocked any message from being opened when the one viewed is deleted. It stopped working when the next update of Thunderbird came out, and I cannot remember it's name. The current version usually leaves a blank window when I delete, but sometimes will open a previously unread message. I normally delete spam before starting to read. If I have missed deleting a spam message it can be opened without clicking on it.
Recently I got stung by a sleeper. The messages were sent to addresses that have not been in the address book, and with a From name that has not been used for weeks. I have no idea when or how it was activated. Possibly one of the auto-opens. How do I prevent Thunderbird from automatically opening *any* messages?
I currently use mail-notification to alert me to new email, it sits in the system tray. When a new mail comes in it alerts me as such. I DO NOT have to have thunderbird open or running to be notified. I want to replace mail-notification with indicator messages. I want the same functionality that I got with mail-notification. That is, to have an icon sitting in the notification area that alerts me when new mail arrives. I do not want to have thunderbird open for this to occur.
I have lib-notify installed. I have the notify add-on installed in thunderbird, I have indicator-messages installed. I have thunderbird.desktop in /usr/share/applications I have a file called thunderbird that has one line which is the path to the desktop file above in /usr/share/indicators/messages/applications/ With this when i click on the icon in the notification area i DO see the listing for thunderbird, but the icon is not correct, it has a black bacground with a red circle in it with a slash. When i click on this item thunderbird launches. I do not recieve notificaion messages (i.e the letter icon does not turn green) unless i open thunderbird and check for messages manually. This defeats the purpose of having a notification in the system tray. Additionally changes made to /usr/share/applicatons/thunderbird.desktop are not reflected in the indicator.
(Ubuntu LTS 10.4) I have multiple mail accounts on Thunderbird (TB). All worked fine with no issues whatsoever. A few months ago it suddenly started giving me this alert message related to my yahoo.fr pop3 account

Obviously I checked if these settings were somehow changed. They weren't. It should leave messages on the server indeed, but I don't use no max message size or fetch headers only options. The original settings are what they used to be and how they have always worked.
The thing is: everything works normal if I start up TB. It downloads the messages, puts them in the folders where I want them to come etc... The problem seems to appear after a while (mostly a few hours, or overnight). It just stops downloading the messages from my yahoo.fr account. When I click the Get Mail for my yahoo account the above alert message pops up.
There is only one solution really. Close TB and restart it after which all works fine again.
It might be that the problem is related to another issue reported as bug # 689453 in launchpad that started around the same time (a few months ago). That bug forces me to have to end the process through the System Monitor where Thunderbird-bin uses almost 100% of the CPU and doesn't shut down.
Obviously it doesn't avoid me from using TB, but it starts to work on my nerves to have to close down TB (sometimes through the End Process in system monitor) and then restart it so frequently.

I was wondering if there were any way of adding or changing where Rhythmbox gets its lyrics from as it never finds lyrics for any of the songs I listen to, making it a rather useless feature.If I recall correctly, Songbird was much better at actually getting hold of lyrics for songs I listen to, so is it possible to switch to whatever site Songbird (possibly a plugin for Songbird rather than it being native) gets its lyrics from? View 2 Replies View RelatedWithin the last few days, Evolution barely opens, and every message has a duplicate message. The duplicate shows as unread, whether I read the original message or not. All duplicates occur only for messages received prior to Wednesday late PM (about four days ago). My in-box was already large, and the program now takes forever to open. In its attempt to get all the messages, it shows:
Fetching mail (...)
Generating message list (...)
Storing folder (...)
I've watched the system monitor, and I'm open to suggestions if looking for something specific could help. When I first attempt to open the program, it grabs a substantial portion of the CPU as status "running" or "uninterruptible." If I let it grind away for a while (15 or more minutes), the program opens, and has the double entries and continues to labor to get the new e-mail. In the most recent try, the program opens, and eventually is able to get mail.
This recent problem MIGHT be related to traveling, when I switched to working off-line for a while, and was usually hibernating the machine in between uses, rather than shutting down. Also, I resorted to checking mail via a web mail program at one point.
Could I have hit the wrong option about synchronizing folders? Default is "do not synchronize." When off-line, I only want to read and answer messages from the inbox, and have them sent from the outbox when I again have access. What is the proper way to do this? I don't have any messages in folders except a few draft e-mails.
I'm running Evolution 2.26 on Jaunty. What did I do wrong, and how do I fix it! PS: Is there a more specific forum for Evolution?
I have a syslog-ng running and kernel build of 2.6.34.8 I use a syslog API in my program with facility LOG_LOCAL5 and and levels debug err and crit and info. when I ran on the older syslog facility I had everything logged fine as I intended. now I have written these rules into the syslog-ng.conf:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu Karmic 64-bit installed. Update manager tells me there are updates available, but when i try to install them, downloading the updates fail and throws this error:

Consequently, a similar error occurs when I try installing Sun Java 6 Runtime.

I tried synaptic, update manager, aptitude, apt-get, and they all throw similar errors. Then I also tried connecting to different servers, to no avail. So to check if it's my connection to the net that has problems somehow, I tried downloading the file directly through my web browser, and it works. (But it's not recommended, and it won't let me!, install the updates manually, right?) I then checked if I'm using some inappropriate proxy settings, and everywhere it's all set up to connect to the net directly, which is, well, my setup. Take note though, that I am able to install other software normally, i.e, using synaptic, apt-get etc. The ones I tried include Pidgin and Mplayer.

Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
I am using fetchmail for fetching mails from google to my local mail client with this command and config and it works fine and gather all my mail in my local root mail file and I can see them with mail command but I want to separate each fetched e-mail to different files with different names.How can I separate each email in separated files??
