Ubuntu 9.04 includes the print driver I need (HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn). I have a production server running 8.04, which does not have this driver available in it's list.
How can I update my server to the latest printer driver list, without doing a dist-upgrade?
Does upgrade from wheezy to jessie modify print drivers....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Lexmark C543 printer installed via CUPS on RHEL4. The printer works just fine and I'm able to print to it as I would expect. But the one annoying thing is I always get asked for the printer drivers when I log into the machine. I just hit cancel and move on but I would like for that to go away.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to add windows print drivers to smb for them to be automatically downloaded to the client upon printer installation. I've followed the samba.org Printing documents which have been helpful to some degree. I have an HP printer and i'd like to just upload and register the .inf,.dll.cab files that the manufacture cd comes with for the client to use the .inf file to install the drivers from that location but i keep getting Werr_invalid_PARAM

Just got a Lexmark Pro200 wireless printer. Can anybody tell me where and how to download the relevant drivers to print using WiFi?. Went to Lexmark.com and downloaded what i thought was the correct driver and the system installed them but cannot find them. When i plug in a usb cable a message tells me that i have connected the correct printer, However when asked to search Lexmark does not even show up on the list to select and search. Was successful on my wife's Windows laptop and after trial and error on my Mac Mini.

Now they won't print. I can print a test page through CUPS web interface and my Ubuntu 10.04.1 laptop will print to the server.I noticed a difference in Gutenprint that went from v5.2.3 to v5.2.5. At least that was the difference I saw between what the CUPS web interface was showing and what driver I had to choose from when adding a printer on the mac said. I updated the gutenprint drivers to 5.2.5 on the mac.I've uninstalled CUPS 1.4.3, reinstalled it, deleted the printer, added it again.This is the error I get in the mac when I try to print:Tree connect failed (NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME)The print job says its printing, never does, and eventually shows its paused

But I updated to 10.04 because I was two updates behind and now I still have 1 issue I haven't figured out. It isn't huge, but just annoying. I can't print from firefox. I have a wireless printer hp officejet J4680, and get the following error in the messages log.
Not sure what the translation for this is. This is what I get when I try to print from firefox. Opera works, office works, just doing an lpr command on something I had firefox save to a file works. So I don't think it is drivers, the update or anything else outside of something again ridiculous firefox doesn't have working yet. Anyone run into this or know where the patch is. I haven't been able to find anything. Have tried purging cups reinstalling. updating firefox etc. just nothing hit the target. Like I said firefox is the only thing not working. I can print from opera and office.
I just upgraded my ubuntu machine from 9.04 to 9.10 (64bit). I have a HP Photosmart 8250 connected to the Ubuntu machine and it is shared out to all the Windows machines. I had to delete and reinstall the printer on the Windows XP machine and they seem to be working fine now. My Windows 7 machine sees the printer, but says it cannot connect to it.

yesterday I upgrade my opensuse 11.2 to 11.3 with zypper dup. Today I try to print something but printer doesn't react for page nor test page. On 11.2 it works perfectly. I have samsung ml 1640 connected directly to PC via usb.

After upgrade to ghostscript 9.02 from current all print jobs fail with: 'There is a missing print filter for printer HP_F2480'
The printer is an All-inone deskjet F2480 and the cups printer queue has been
setup with the hplip tools. Before the upgrade it was 'working' with quite a few bugs...eg image not printed correct, multipage printing garbage. (page for page printing was the workaround)
Do I need to remove the printer and define it again?
I want to update the drivers, and I don't know how to do that.PS: If I update my drivers, does that make my computer run a bit better?

After a clean install, the ATi drivers (for a Radeon x300) were automatically installed, and worked fine out of the box. Soon after all of this, I decided to run an update. Now, while my drivers are listed as installed in synaptic, nothing is recognized, not even the command "aticonfig" when typed in the terminal. When I try to access the Catalyst Control Center, it tells me that either I have no video drivers, or there's a problem with my card.Is there anything I can do about this? I've already tried reinstalling the drivers from synaptic.
View 2 Replies View Relatedfrom Ubuntu 8.04.2, kernel 2.6.24-24-lpia to Ubuntu 8.04.2, kernel 2.6.24-27-lpia Drivers Lost / Missing: Wireless via USB, Printer, Webcam, Sound, etc. No indication whatsoever there would be problems with the upgrade except for the changes in /boot/grub/menu.lst which I merged by hand to avoid problems.
Please advise:
A) What to do next?
B) Where in the Ubuntu bugs do I open this bug?
My drivers are not working right, I removed the ati drivers from synaptic to stop a stuttering screen problem I had, worked fine...rebooted reinstalled them rebooted and the problem came back after I reinstalled them. So now I've removed them again but I have not removed the Fire GL driver, on 10.04 I had stuttering screen and let the system find the driver then everything was fine.
Can I do that again, will 10.10 have the Fire GL driver if I let the system find it again?

I'm trying to update the driver on my Nvidia 8800 GTS 512. Nvidia has a native linux driver for this. I've downloaded and attempted to run it, but it returns this error:
"You appear to be running an X server; please exit X before installing. For further details see..."
and it makes reference to this: [URL]
So I'm attempting to stop the X server, though I don't understand what that is. Whoever came up with that name should feel bad.
With a bit of poking around the internet, I found the "Booting to a different runlevel" section on this page: [URL]
But the init command in console does nothing, and the file /etc/inittab is not there.
So how am I supposed to install this driver?
I've got an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter and it works perfectly in Ubuntu 9.04 to 10.04, but when I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 I had to restart my computer several times before the wireless card would start and I would be able to connect to any networks? I then changed to Fedora 14 and the problem was also present so I assumed the problem was my wireless card and not the operating system. However I recently wondered if it was the OS again and went back to 10.04 and my wireless card works flawlessly again. So I'm wondering if there was an update to the drivers in Ubuntu 10.10, and I assume Fedora 14 using the same version? How would I be able to see if they did change? And how would I be able to use the version of the drivers in Ubuntu 10.04 in 10.10 if it is the drivers what changed?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed a routine update through the update manager this morning and when the next time I turned my laptop on neither my graphics driver or my wirless driver were working. When I turned my laptop on I got an error saying:
Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode. The following error was encountered. You may need to update your configuration to solve this.
(EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA Kernel module. Please check your systems Kernel log for additional error messages.
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)
(EE) No drivers available
After clicking ok to this message I get another with a series of options about how to resolve this ranging from troubleshoot to restart to run in low graphics just once. Once I open the session my wireless won't load up, but I can still connect to ethernet. I'm using a 3 year old HP pavilion laptop running Lucid Lynx. I'm not sure if this problem is related to the update, but it's the only thing that happened out of the ordinary before I ran into this problem. Unfortunately I cannot remember what was included in the update.
Tonight I upgraded to 11.04. Once I had finished the upgrade, I restarted my computer as it told me too. When I got past the ubuntu 11.04 (purple background orange dots), it simply went to the terminal and asked me to log in. I tried to restart the X server with "sudo service gdm restart" but no display popped up. I happened to have a few NVIDIA drivers in my downloads file also so I gave these a try, but the "install script" failed.
After all this I booted Ubuntu in graphic failsafe mode. I then decided to see what would happen if I removed the proprietary driver. Upon doing this and rebooting my Ubuntu booted into graphical mode "yay!".So without the Nvidia drivers I can finally see something other than terminal, but, I need those NVIDIA drivers for my work. So what can I do? I have tried installing the new NVIDIA linux drivers from the NVIDIA website,and have tried Installing the recommended driver via "additional drivers", but both have resulted in my being stuck in terminal.
Currently I am trying to update my drivers in 11.04 on a dell inspiron mini.
I do not believe it is a pure dell problem, as my regular dell xps running 10.10 has been having to problems updating.
I go into additional drivers and start having it search but it gets stuck and states:
Downloading package indexes failed, please check your network status. Most drivers will not be available.
Does this mean the servers are just really busy? Or do I have a problem somewhere on my end?
Short of the story is I have an AMD64bit system for my 'server'. I find that there is lacking package support for ubuntu 64bit. Some apps I want to install work fine on 32bit ubuntu but not in 64bit ubuntu. More importantly the 64bit package for my ati drivers don't work, however they do on a 32bit version of ubuntu.
It would make sense to do a fresh install of ubuntu 32bit to avoid problems like this in the future. However my server has been running for years.. since ubuntu6. And it is highly customized. It would take too long to configure my server from scratch, I really want to avoid that. So I'm wondering, next time I do a dist upgrade.. say from 9.10 to 10.04. Is there a way I could trick the update manager in to upgrading to 32bit packages/kernel etc?
I recently upgraded 9.10 to 10.04. I have Nvidia 9400 GT which drivers I had to reinstall after upgrade. Initially it was lot of work to get the drivers working on 9.10 and who knew for 10.04 it was even harder for me. I was trying to install this version NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.24. followed basic steps like quiting X server first, backing up and then removing xorg.conf file then rebuilding it etc etc ..
After all that, reboot and resolution messed up. My original resolution was 1600x900. Now its on 1024x768 and I tried absolutely everything what is discussed on Linux forums to fix it but no luck at all. Now about error msgs. When computer starts window pops up saying "Fail to initialize NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your system kernel log ...." Then it gives me some options where only two works 1) restart X 2) Load ubuntu with low resolution. Both of these options bring me to 1024x786 mode.
Second error msgs: when I go to 'NVIDIA X server settings' window pops ups saying "You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server." When I go to Preferences > Monitor this msg pops up "It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?" and it tells me that it can not recognize monitor even though it did before I tried to install drivers.
Here is my xorg.conf file (I tried to add some lines to it so it might be little different. I still have original which does not work either).

Removed & then reinstalled the FGLRX drivers from the Hardware Drivers tool, rebooted & still the ATI control panel is borked.I believe one of the updates were called fglrx-modaliases.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on an Apple iMac 27". After updating yesterday, I no longer have working graphics drivers or a working mouse. The graphics card in question is an ATI HD 5750, and mouse is an Apple bluetooth 'magic' mouse.So far I've managed to fix the mouse, but not the graphics.
At first I didn't have any display at all, but I was able to ssh into the machine and get part way through the proprietry graphics driver installation. If I go to Administration > Hardware Drivers, then Ubuntu tells me the ATI driver is in use, but it's clearly not (takes 3 seconds to move a window).I've tried booting into the .24 kernel instead of the .25, but that's even worse since not the mouse doesn't work in .24 (it used to work fine)
I have a problem with starting ubuntu 10.10, I changed my graphics card from an ATI card to a Nivida card a week or so ago (Machine has dual boot). I've sort out the windows install, but cant get into ubuntu to update the drivers. It boots as far as console but just leaves me with the text screen. How do I update the drivers from there or get a basic console screen to come up so I can update?
