I have a Lexmark C543 printer installed via CUPS on RHEL4. The printer works just fine and I'm able to print to it as I would expect. But the one annoying thing is I always get asked for the printer drivers when I log into the machine. I just hit cancel and move on but I would like for that to go away.

I set it to autologin for a few weeks, then reverted to standard login, and the problem has gone away
Ubuntu 9.04 includes the print driver I need (HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn). I have a production server running 8.04, which does not have this driver available in it's list.
How can I update my server to the latest printer driver list, without doing a dist-upgrade?
i'm trying to add windows print drivers to smb for them to be automatically downloaded to the client upon printer installation. I've followed the samba.org Printing documents which have been helpful to some degree. I have an HP printer and i'd like to just upload and register the .inf,.dll.cab files that the manufacture cd comes with for the client to use the .inf file to install the drivers from that location but i keep getting Werr_invalid_PARAM

Just got a Lexmark Pro200 wireless printer. Can anybody tell me where and how to download the relevant drivers to print using WiFi?. Went to Lexmark.com and downloaded what i thought was the correct driver and the system installed them but cannot find them. When i plug in a usb cable a message tells me that i have connected the correct printer, However when asked to search Lexmark does not even show up on the list to select and search. Was successful on my wife's Windows laptop and after trial and error on my Mac Mini.

When I choose logout/restart/whatever from the possible options, it takes me to the main login screen (with the drums) and it shows thet that user is still logged in. The only way, once this occurs, to rid myself of this is to sign in as an administrator and run shutdown -r 00 under sudo. Then it reboots. (Using the admin account to choose restart/shutdown also returns me to the mail login screen where that unpriv'd user is still logged in.) (The machine is fully up to date.)

Once the operating system is installed, I followed [URL] ..... article to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers. As the forum suggested, instead of creating an Xorg server configuration file, I installed Bumblebee according to [URL]..... article.
But when I restarted my machine after completing all the steps when I try to log in I get the follwoing message:
"failed to load session 'cinnamon'"
I cannot login as normal user or root.
Slackware64, 13.1, Xfce: Sreensaver is configured to Lock Screen After 5 minutes. This works fine. My problem is that 90% of the time, when I go to wake the screensaver, it won't ask for a password and won't come out of screensaver. The only reliable method I have for getting the password prompt is to switch to a console and then switch back to the X session. Then, the screen saver doesn't display, it just asks for a password.
If I move the mouse when the screensaver is active, the screensaver animation freezes for ~20s and then resumes. If I touch a key (Esc, Shift, space, Enter), the animation freezes for ~30s and then resumes. I never see the Enter Password dialog. Screensaver is configured for Random. I haven't reliably gotten it to work often enough to offer any info as to when it works, but it has worked a couple of times. Keyboard and mouse are configured properly (HAL reports "Logitech Logitech USB Keyboard" for my Logitech Elite keyboard and X uses xkbrules evdev; the mouse is an MX Laser, identified as "Macintosh mouse button emulation").
I am a noob who is playing around with setting up a home print/file server using Ubuntu Server 10.04. I have successfully setup the server and am now configuring the SSH server so I can control remotely.
I have setup RSA keys with a passphrase as outlined in the SSH - Ubuntu Community Documentation. However, when I log in remotely I am only asked for the passphrase the first time. Any subsequent log-ins simply take a few seconds to connect without any passphrase request. After restarting my laptop (that I use to connect remotely), I am again asked for the passphrase only the first time and subsuquent logins are without a passphrase. I would like to know if this is normal and if there is a way to have passphrase requested on each login.

This is my first time with openSuse as I have heard that openSuse is better forlaptops then ubuntu is. On this laptop, I had already installed ubuntu but decided I no longer liked ubuntu very much, but for no real reason. I encountered almost the exact same problem using both ubuntu and kubuntu, but I had more problems on top of the graphical problem - so I decided to give openSuse a try. I love it so far!Anyway, to the point - I have an Nvidia GeForce GT330M. I have tried installing the drivers the "easy way" and the "hard way" and I have even used the script lnvhw, all to no avail.
What seems to happen is that, after I install the drivers (from runlevel 3, of course), as soon as I restart my computer it initially loads just fine. However, after the loading bar shows up, I get dropped into a console login (tty1), and tty7 & 8 show absolutely nothing, except a blinking cursor.I have two graphic cards in my computer -- an Intel HD card. This is loaded normally and, from "My Computer" it is the graphics card in use, as far as I can tell. The other, as I said, is the nVidia GeForce GT 330M. I'm not much of a "power" user, so I'm not really sure where to start with finding the issue
I have an problem with login in to a fresh installed Ubuntu with the nvidia drivers (graphics card nvidia 210). So far I have installed Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.10 and Unbuntu 11.04, they all seem to have the same problem. when I log in the screen goes black and the pc's hangs. I can switch to a terminal before I login and everything seems operational. I can login to Ubuntu with a fail save x session.

I gave one, but I am not sure exactly why I need this password. It seems that it was required to let me access the wifi - even though this has its own security code. I found I could stop the system asking for it every time I tried to connect to the internet using wifi by checking a button in the network setup, but when I registered for Ubuntu One, I was again asked for it - twice, once when I registered and again when I set up Tomboy notes sync. Now I get asked for it again every time I switch on.
I would like to know why the keyring passwords are needed in addition to the login password for a single user computer, which mine is and also how I can stop it asking for this password when I switch the computer on. One suggestion I have seen is to make the keyring password the same as my login password. If that is the case, then how do I change the keyring password?

When I return and wake up the computer, I have a period of between 10-15 seconds before a password prompt is shown. I would expect the password prompt to come up before I am able to type and do any system commands.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHello everI'm really confused by the ways an encrypted partition get mounted.It just mounts the partition without asking for the passphrase used to create it. I can list the files in /mnt/sda2, create a new file test.txt, but have no access to the files written to the "real encrypted partition".Then I can see/change the content of the encrypted partition but without being able to see/change the file test.txt created previously with the normal mount command.
The reason I'm asking is that I'm having my custom Debian to automount every partition available on the system at boot time. Is there any way/command to tell if a particular partition is encrypted (by cryptsetup) or not? So that I can mount it the right way and not make the users confused (or even harm the encrypted data).
I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

I am working on a Dell Inspiron 9400 with 9.10 installed and (thus far) working quite well. However, when I type in a command into Terminal (I was trying to install Amarok), the terminal asks for my password and the entire keyboard stops working. As in, I can hit any numerical or letter key, and nothing happens in the terminal but the blinking cursor. The specific command was "sudo apt-get install amarok", and then it asks for my password, and I'm not able to make an entry.
I've tried changing to a couple of the different Dell laptop keyboards in System>Preferences, but again, before typing the command into the terminal, everything is working fine (inside AND outside of the terminal). After the password prompt comes up and the keyboard stops working in terminal, all the character keys still work fine still outside of the terminal.
