Ubuntu Multimedia :: 10.10 - NVidia Graphics Card Drivers Update
Jun 19, 2011I have a problem with starting ubuntu 10.10, I changed my graphics card from an ATI card to a Nivida card a week or so ago (Machine has dual boot). I've sort out the windows install, but cant get into ubuntu to update the drivers. It boots as far as console but just leaves me with the text screen. How do I update the drivers from there or get a basic console screen to come up so I can update?

Sep 20, 2010i am running 10.04 64 bit and did an update today and now i do not have any graphics card drivers and my virtual box is not working at all i have tried to reinstall the drivers through the hardware drivers and get told i have to look at the installation of this driver failed.
have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log
and when i try to open my virtual box i get
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Server 08.
Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-eth0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
Failed to attach the network LUN (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).

Feb 14, 2010I just installed Ubuntu 9.10, and it seems I'm unable to get the drivers for my graphics card. I know they exist, as I've downloaded them before (I switched back to Windows for a short period. Bad idea there. :/), and I know they work fine, but when I go to "System > Administration > Hardware Drivers" (where I've always gotten them from), they aren't there.
The only difference between this install and my old one, is that I used a USB drive to install, instead of a disk (I had run out).
Although I did have to change to boot order in the BIOS to get it to boot into the drive, I don't think that's the issue.

May 30, 2010I have a Sapphire HD4850 X2 1G GDDR3 PCI-E graphis card, and presently I ruin a Windows 7 OS, but am moving to Ubuntu GUI Desktop, and was wandering where I could get Linux drivers for this card (and they are NOT available from the Sapphire site), or how I could get Windows drivers to work with this card, I do have 4 monitors using this card so I need the drivers and ability to use 4 monitors.

Feb 13, 2011Before we start, I wanted to say I noticed the "Ubuntu cannot fix or improve these drivers." Please read anyways.
I've tried to activate the "ATI/AMD Proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" from the System>Administration>Additional drivers and it has an error halfway through the process.
I use an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5770 in my computer (if that helps), and Ubuntu is on my USB(8GB).
The error message I receive (after awhile of waiting) is :
SystemError: installArchives() failed

Jun 8, 2011I'm trying to install the drivers for my nvidia graphics card. I downloaded the shell script from the nvidia website. However, there's something peculiar going on. When I execute the shell script it says it cannot find my kernel headers, yet I can verify that my /usr/include/linux/kernel.h does exist. I have selinux on, but just installed os with it on, so contexts are fresh. Checked them as well. After doing some research I found something out. When I run a 'uname -a' I get this.

I see that the error in the nvidia shell script can't locate the header files for the RUNNING kernel version which makes sense. Why would yum install that version instead of the one in 'uname -a'? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Dec 10, 2010How to install this Nvidia Geforce 8800 driver. I've been told that the installation files I got will do everything - it doesn't. I've been told about some kind of xorg.conf file that doesn't exist- xorg.conf-vesa does though, I assume that's vesa drivers and theres something else for other drivers.

Anyway, I cleverly installed the most recent drivers for my graphics card, and it killed Ubuntu - it won't start now. This happens on Windows, too, but Windows will System Restore for me. How might I fix this in Ubuntu?
I can choose Ubuntu from the grub menu, but then the screen goes blank, the fan on my computer goes into overdrive, and nothing happens.
Am currently running my Karmic Koala from LiveCD...

Mar 17, 2011I installed a routine update through the update manager this morning and when the next time I turned my laptop on neither my graphics driver or my wirless driver were working. When I turned my laptop on I got an error saying:
Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode. The following error was encountered. You may need to update your configuration to solve this.
(EE) NVIDIA: Failed to load the NVIDIA Kernel module. Please check your systems Kernel log for additional error messages.
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)
(EE) No drivers available
After clicking ok to this message I get another with a series of options about how to resolve this ranging from troubleshoot to restart to run in low graphics just once. Once I open the session my wireless won't load up, but I can still connect to ethernet. I'm using a 3 year old HP pavilion laptop running Lucid Lynx. I'm not sure if this problem is related to the update, but it's the only thing that happened out of the ordinary before I ran into this problem. Unfortunately I cannot remember what was included in the update.

Oct 5, 2010I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on an Apple iMac 27". After updating yesterday, I no longer have working graphics drivers or a working mouse. The graphics card in question is an ATI HD 5750, and mouse is an Apple bluetooth 'magic' mouse.So far I've managed to fix the mouse, but not the graphics.
At first I didn't have any display at all, but I was able to ssh into the machine and get part way through the proprietry graphics driver installation. The installation failed, but at least I have something displaying on the screen now.I have tried the fix in this thread:[URL]The installation of this completes, however the graphics driver is not working. If I go to Administration > Hardware Drivers, then Ubuntu tells me the ATI driver is in use, but it's clearly not (takes 3 seconds to move a window).I've tried booting into the .24 kernel instead of the .25, but that's even worse since not the mouse doesn't work in .24 (it used to work fine)

May 25, 2011how to enable the Gnome Shell with an AMD 6950 graphics card and the default Fedora 15 drivers? I may try the AMD Catalyst proprietary drivers but from history those usually lag behind the Fedora versions. I also read some people had issues with the current AMD Catalyst drivers in the Catalyst guide thread.
Also, the AMD 6950 graphics card fan is at full speed all the time in Fedora 15. I do believe you can with the Catalyst drivers using aticonfig but was wondering about the default Fedora 15 drivers?

May 2, 2010I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
Integrated graphics
PCI graphics
PCI-Express graphics (PEG)
I set the BIOS on PEG, but
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says

There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power.It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector.The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?

Ubuntu Installation :: With NVIDIA 310M Graphics Card Drivers (310M) On A Dell Vostro 3300 - Errors "no Device Found - No Screens Found"
Oct 28, 2010I have a Dell Vostro 3300, i5 460 processor with a NVIDIA 310M Graphics Card. I'm doing a KUBUNTU 10.10 (Maverick) install with the following results. The Live CD boots just fine to, "TEST," or "Install." Installation goes fine. However, the graphics card being used is the Intel i915. I have tried installing the NVIDIA drivers directly from the, "Additional Drivers," tool and after the reboot I get through the boot screen to the console. I try to manually startx and I get the errors, "no device found," "no screens found." The second install I tried purging and blacklisting the nouveau drivers and entering safe mode. Then using apt-get install nvidia-current. After that, nvidia-xconfig. Same results.
The third attempt I re-installed and this time downloaded the drivers from the Nvidia site (version 256.53). Blacklisted nouveau, remove all nvidia, updated initramfs, etc. The install went fine however I still end up at a console after boot with the same messages as above. No device found, no screens found. I've tried searching through the forum and web and have tried things like adding the modset option along with many other hacks, tips and fixes. still, no go.I can live with the Intel graphics for now although I lose 512MB of memory. Unfortunately there is no way to disable or change this set-up in the BIOS. I've seen quite a few bug reports at Launchpad:
1. Is this something I should just wait til a fix comes? Will a fix come?
2. Is there, or will there be an official Updated Ubuntu Guide for Maverick to install NVIDIA drivers with this tecnology?
3. Lastly, is there anything else I should try??
