Ubuntu :: Change Color Of Window Slide Bar From White To Something Else

Oct 29, 2010

I am running SuperOS 10.10, which is based on Ubuntu 10.10. I am fairly new to gnome Ubuntu and never have dealt much with changing themes.I am using the Ambiance theme and like everything about it but the slide bar is white and hard to see. I like the fact that the close, minimize, maximize buttons are on the left side of the window. If I change the theme to clearlooks then the slide bar is blue and easy to see but the close, minimize, maximize buttons are on the right. I went into Ubunty Tweak, window manager settings when in the clearlooks theme and the close, minimize, maximize buttons are set to custom.

If I uncheck the custom button and click left then nothing happens. I would either like to change the color of the slide bar in ambiance theme or change the close, minimize, maximize buttons location in clearlooks theme. It is probably simple to do but I have been going in circles with no change. Can someone point me in the right direction? Nevermind, I will just switch to another distro. This question didn't generate a lot of traffic.

Ubuntu :: White Screen After Login?

Jan 21, 2010

I'm suddenly experiencing a white screen on my laptop after logging in, possibly as a result of some routine updates last night although I can't find any posts here today recounting similar problems. It's possibly Compiz related as I can get to a visible desktop by blindly using Alt+F2 and entering "metacity --replace". Maybe even a problem with my video drivers?

Ubuntu :: Random White Screen

Oct 25, 2010

I'm new to ubuntu but I've installed ubuntu 10.10 on my desktop and it seems to work fine. But it keeps freezing up on me (sometimes a solid white screen, other times with vertical lines on a white background) and then becomes non-responsive. Sometimes there is a small (about 1in) square where the mouse was when it froze.I have a fairly old computer (emachines T6522). Is there something I can do to keep it from crashing?

Ubuntu :: Cannot Bypass This White Screen

Mar 18, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 off a desktop. I was using it for quite a while up until last night when out of nowhere while surfin', and browsing, the screen just turned white, I've tried restarting by powering off manually, as I couldn't get it to any other way. After the computer restarts, it might flash black for a sec a couple of times, then back to being white again, the BIOS screen doesn't even show up. It sounds like in the background the computer might still be loading up. My monitor is a 21"LCD, if that means anything?

Ubuntu :: White Screen In Corner After Boot / What To Do?

Jan 26, 2010

I have been using Netbook Remix 9.10 and it's been great until this morning.

Today when I turned it on, after Grub and the loading screen, the system brought up a smaller white screen in the corner with my username@machinename"~$ as the first line.

This looks like a terminal window. I can see my folders and use the system but I get no GUI anymore. Not sure why this is happening.

Tried booting into Recovery and updating the system, but to no avail. I've also searched the forums for the last few hours but have not found anything similar.

Anyone have any idea what to do? code...

Not sure if this is relevant to my problem or not. However, I do remember this happening on my desktop version of 9.10... that was solved by installing 9.04.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Boots To White Screen Most Times?

Apr 25, 2010

About 1/2 - 3/4 of the times I boot my PC to 10.04 RC, It quickly goes into a white screen at the beginning and then just hangs there. I updated from 9.1 and it did this, then I fresh installed and had same issue, including when I tried to boot of the 10.04RC boot CD (before 10.04 was even installed). There is nothing listed under sys/admin/hardware. In all cases, I have to hold power button, and keep rebooting...eventually, it will boot normally. I had no problems in 9.04 (nor on XP which I had on the system originally). I do not have a dual boot system, only ubuntu. I have ATI x1900 video AMD 64 X2 dual core 4200 Asus MSI motherboard 2gig ram 250 gig WD HD

Ubuntu :: 10.04 - White Bars Coming Up On Screen?

May 9, 2010

After being on the computer for awhile, it suddenly stops and goes to the purple screen like one would see when turning the computer on, only slightly distorted. after a few moments it switches to a black screen with a flashing _ but you can't type anything, and then it changes so it's blank, and these white bars start to flash on the screen. I just put 10.04 on my computer about two days ago, it's been doing it since. When I first tried to upgrade from 9.10 I encountered a huge error of some sort so I just put a brand new install onto the computer from CD.

Ubuntu :: Screen Goes Teal I Areas That Were Once White.

I know this is Ubuntu forums, but my other laptop has Ubuntu and I know this is a community full of very smart people (got Ubuntu help the other day).Anyway , this laptop's problem is, the screen goes teal i areas that were once white. Now, originally I thought something was broken, but now my theory is it's a loose connection. On the bottom left of the screen there is a thick black cable that leads up behind the screen and connects with that duct tape looking thing. If I simply lift up on the black cable, the screen goes back to normal.

Ubuntu :: Screen Fades To Black And White With 10.04?

Oct 5, 2010

I have 10.04 installed in a dual boot system with windows 7 pro on 1 desktops and one laptop. Also dual boot on a desktop with windows xp and Ubuntu 10.04. The two desktops run AMD processors and the laptop uses an Intel processor. On the two desktops after booting the screen will fade to black and white and then back to color. While in the black and white the computer is frozen. This happens using Firefox mainly and other programs. It never happens using my laptop with the intel processor. Does Ubuntu 10.04 have a problem with AMD processors? It does it so much it is hard to do anything with the and desktop computers, but I have never seen it happen on my intel laptop.

Ubuntu Installation :: Black Screen W/ White Stripes ?

Jun 20, 2010

I 've recently installed UNR 10.04 Lucid Lynx in my old PC.

Specs:
CPU Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz
Mother ASRock P4i45GV R5.0
Chipset Intel 845GV w/ Intel Extreme Graphics (shared memory up to 64 / 256 MB -I don't really get which one-).

Nevertheless, when I start the Pc, Ubuntu loads and, when it's about to load the desktop, the screen turns black with white stripes and "turns itself on and off" (like when it receives no image). I don't really know if this is or not a graphic bug / problem, but it's quite strange, as I've used Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.10 before in that same Pc.

By the way, I get the same error with the normal Ubuntu Lucid. AND, I have a Win XP Professional SP2 installed (I've installed the Ubuntu afterwards, so I have the Grub as default bootloader).

Also, I get the same error when loading Ubuntu in LiveCD mode.

Ubuntu Installation :: White Screen On Start Up - Won't Launch

Dec 15, 2010

I have been running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid not on a separate disc partition but installed right on my Windows (7) partition. Everything was working fine until yesterday. I restarted my computer and then the system was scanning the disc then suddenly after the disc check, the computer restarted and when it was supposed to launch Ubuntu, the screen went completely white. I tried restarting again, I manage to get to where I choose to boot with Windows 7 or Ubuntu. I choose Ubuntu and the same happens again: white screen. It doesn't go any further than this and the only thing the computer can do is boot with Windows 7. Has anyone had the same problem? Also, is there a way I can access my files (saved in Ubunutu) from Windows? If I can manage to copy these files then I don't mind reformatting the whole disc.

Ubuntu :: Get A White Screen - No Wallpaper - Colors - Themes ?

Now I only get a white screen. No wallpaper, colors, themes, nothing. As I shut Ubuntu off I will get a flash of my wallpaper and then it's gone. 2 questions really: How do I get things back the way they were? Can I keep the dock but lose the standard sidebar?
