Ubuntu :: Can Not Get A Network Scanner To Work / What To Do?

Nov 8, 2010

I'm trying to get a network scanner to function. I've been following the guides here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1519201
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ScanningHowTo

And I think I am just misunderstanding something.

1. The scanner is properly functioning on the server side.

2. Both, the client and the server, have the package sane-utils installed.

3. I changed /etc/default/saned on the server to RUN=yes (that was easy!)

4. Editing /etc/sane.d/saned.conf is what I think I'm getting confused on. The internal IP address of the server is 192.168.1.102 and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. The internal IP address of the client is 192.168.1.103. So, what do I put there? Is 192.168.1.0/24 correct? That didn't work!

5. Also, editing /etc/sane.d/net.conf on the client is confusing me too! What IP address should go there? Can I put the server name? What is the correct syntax?

6. I added saned to the correct group, lp. I made sure that the scanner was owned by the correct group by doing these commands:
sane-find-scanner
AND
ls -al /dev/bus/usb/XXX/XXX
The group was lp.

Ubuntu :: Canon MX320 Scanner Not Able To Get The XSane Image Scanner To Recognize Scanner?

Jul 11, 2010

I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.

I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS

I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.

Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.

I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

Just to be clear, I am not asking about connecting a usb scanner then sharing it over a LAN, that's different. This scanner plugs straight into the LAN.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Scanner Won't Work / Resolve This?

Feb 23, 2010

I recently have a need to get my HP ScanJet 5590 working. Never used it in suse, only in the old windoze daze. Running opensuse 11.2, kde 4.3.4 quite nicely.

When I dusted the scanner off (USB) and plugged it in and fired it up, then went into Yast, scanner, it correctly recognized the scanner by model, but the driver line has Not configured: in front of the driver info. And, it will not do a test scan, nor do any apps see the scanner. As far as I can see all the dependencies are installed, I just need to configure the scanner. But I can't find any place in Yast to do that, nor do I have a clue what command line would work.

However on Lucid no success, I googled around and followed different instructions found in the www. sane-find-scanner and scanimage -L can find it (but it takes some time for scanimage -L) however I cannot scan and the scanner also does not react at all. The reaction of iscan and all the other scanning software is not consistent, error messages vary. Ubuntu :: Share A Scanner On Network In Lucid System?

Jun 27, 2010

Assumptions:

Your scanner is installed properly and fully function. If you need to install your scanner first, have a look at the ScanningHowTo. To check if your scanner is connected and installed properly you can use the command "scanimage -L".
The machine we're configuring to use as the scanner server has the ip address 192.168.1.1 and subnet-mask 255.255.255.0. This means that this machine is on the 192.168.1.0/24 (CIDR notation) network/subnet. code...

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3: Can't Get Canon Pixma MG 5150 Scanner To Work

Software :: Clients Cannot Find Network Scanner?

Feb 5, 2009

I currently have a network with an older machine, which is (usually) operated in headless mode as a data & backup server, with a fixed IP of 192.168.0.10. I have two client machines, a desktop & a laptop, which use DHCP. All three computers are running Slackware-12.2, the clients with a full install & the server without any X components. I want to set the server to serve a scanner & have been following this link, which is mostly a rewrite of the man page for sane.d. I set up saned per the article, adding the saned:saned user. 'scanimage -L' works for both root & my local user on the server. I can ssh into the server as my desktop user & 'scanimage -L' works. Ditto if I ssh into the server, then 'su -' to root. I can scan either locally from the server or via ssh from the desktop machine. BUT, I cannot get the scanner recognized on the network. On the server, I have this line in /etc/sane.d/saned.conf:

Code:

192.168.0.0/24 this line in /etc/services:

Code:

sane-port 6566/tcp #SANE network scanner daemon & this line in /etc/inetc.conf:

Code:

sane-port stream tcp nowait saned:saned /usr/sbin/saned saned

I have changed the line in /etc/sane.d/saned.conf to just "+", for testing. That didn't work either. On the clients, I have these two uncommented lines in /etc/sane.d/net.conf:

[code]....

My server user is in the same groups, less vboxusers. The server is identified in /etc/hosts & I can connect to it via ssh & mount nfs shares from it. What am I (not) doing that is killing network scanning?

but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.

Debian :: Sane - Share Epson Scanner Over Network

Apr 29, 2010

I have a debian server (squeezzy) amd 64, running with an epson BX-300f pluged to USB. And I want to share the scanner over my network. So let's do that, Intalled sane, sane utils, iscan, which I've downloaded from epson drivers and wich include epkowa drivers fro scanner to work..
after that I installed on my system (Ubuntu 9.10) xsane... on console I type:

root@bruno-laptop:/home/bruno# scanimage -L
*** glibc detected *** scanimage: free(): invalid pointer: 0x00be63d0 ***
WARNING: Unhandled message: interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable, path=/, member=Introspect

device 'net:192.168.0.254:epkowa:usb:001:035' is a Epson Stylus BX300F/TX300F/NX300/ME Office 600F flatbed scanner
device 'net:192.168.0.254:epkowa:usb:001:035' is a Epson Stylus BX300F/TX300F/NX300/ME Office 600F flatbed scanner

I don't know why I find so much things, if i only have one scanner. Then I opened xsane and found the scanner over network. I chose the epson with epkowa drivers I try to scan something but it dont output nothing and sometimes it gives me "end of file reached". I can put whatever config files here if you want to, just ask. One time it worked fine.. but only half of an image...

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Scanner Works But Won't Network / Solve This?

Mar 19, 2010

Fresh install of openSuSE 11.2.
Laserjet 1220 multifunction device.

Successfully installed, network driver also installed, XSane shows both local and network scanner on local machine. Scans locally via both drivers.

However, networked scanner is not discovered by machines on local network, using XSane. Did a similar installation a few months ago with openSuSE 11.0, which works fine on the same client machine.

Have tried disabling firewall, but still no joy.

So, questions:

1] Is there anything I have missed?
2] Is anything known to be broken in 11.2?

General :: How To Setup Network Printer / Copier / Scanner / Fax

Jun 19, 2010

I do not have the hardware to do this yet. I simply want advice on what route to take before I make the investment. If I had the money I would simply invest in a wireless combo setup, but I unfortunately do not. I do however have an idea. I am currently stuck with a standalone system that is running XP strictly for the use of magicjack. I was thinking I could hook up this combo machine to that computer and network it in via that. However, would the scanning capability only reside in the hardwired computer or could I do a network scan somehow?

Neither /etc/sane.d/* nor ~/.sane/xsane/* contains this information.
