Ubuntu :: USB Modem SU-8200 Not Working On 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope?
Mar 30, 2010
Is anybody knows how to install USB Modem SU-8200 U on Ubuntu 9.04?.I have use wvdial and dependencies for Debian, but it still not works.I use Gnome-PPP ; but no modem detected.I use usb_modeswitch from Draisberghof, but no deffault setting etc/usb_modeswitch.conf either on usb_modeswitch.setup.I know USB based modem is the worst comm option for Linux.I think I should use PCMIA modem type.Anybody know the compatible one for Ubuntu 9.04?btw,I tried to set it up on my HP Compaq Pressario V3700,...all drivers and hardware are work good, except USB modem.

Just installed 9.04 on a new machine. Files I delete just seem to disappear completely instead of going into Trash. This is not what happened on my older machine.

I recently set up an older Pentium 3 desktop w/ Jaunty Jackalope 9.04. The Netbook I am typing this on right now(ASUS Eee PC w/ Win 7);is connected on a home network, that is using the WiFi signal, that is going through that Linux Machine. The Linux machine's Mozilla browser does not seem to be able to use/connect w/ the DLink USB adapter's "Auto Linksys" internet connection. Is there a easy fix for this problem?

Been using since summer 2009 the xserver no backfill from PPA: [URL] and it was working fine with my ATI video card. No heavy CPU usage when restoring from minimized and a general performance boost were the results of that use.But recently made an upgrade and realized that xserver-xorg-core package (check it from synaptic manager) has been upgraded to a jaunty-proposed version and the problems started to appear again! So using Synaptic I selected this package and hit CTRL-E key in order to choose the nobackfill version. This way things got back to normal!

I just upgraded from jaunty to intrepid. The upgrade tool went through everything without a hitch and when it finished it told me to restart my computer. When I did, ubuntu began to boot, got past the initial loading splash screen, but immediately after, before the login splash, the screen freezes with some strange graphics glitch and refuses to work from there. How can I fix this to any workable state, upgraded or not?

On a fully updated Ubuntu 9.04 system, I had successfully configured wvdial to connect using a USB modem ("Update" brand) with an ID of 067b:0611 (uses the pl2303 driver module). In considering an upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10, I tried a LiveCD and was unable to connect using wvdial. However, because I had made the CD a couple months before, I went ahead with the upgrade (via the internet; not a fresh install) in the hopes that it would end up working or I would be able to find a solution for it.
The Problem: The upgrade was a success as far as I could tell, but when I tried to connect to the internet with wvdial, I was not able to. I checked the wvdial.conf settings to make sure they were the same as before, added some new ones I thought it might need, unplugged the modem and replugged it, restarted my system, etc., but all to no avail. Whenever I would try to run wvdial to connect, I would get the following output:
Code:
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
[code]....
This was different than the output I used to get with wvdial, but when I went over to my browser (Firefox) the internet worked fine. I'm assuming my email client and other things will work okay as well, but have not tested them as of yet.
A final touch I did to make connecting a bit less 'painful' was to right-click on the panel (at the top of the default Ubuntu screen), and click on 'Add to Panel'. Then I selected 'Custom Application Launcher', chose 'Application in Terminal' for 'Type', gave the launcher a name, pasted in that 'horrifically' long command line above, gave a brief description in the 'comment' box, then pressed 'OK'. Voila! I now have a launcher on my panel that with a single-click will bring up a terminal screen where I enter my sudo password and it connects. Then when I want to disconnect I just go back to that terminal, press Ctrl+C, which promptly disconnects me and causes the terminal to vanish into thin air.
Now, I don't know enough about this stuff to know why this command worked and wvdial didn't, but if you know, feel free to post a reply. Or if you'd like to see what settings I had for wvdial that worked in 9.04 but not in 9.10, let me know. Or if you think it's worth checking to see if this should be posted as a bug in either wvdial or Ubuntu, you can mention that as well.

I have a problem with resume from ram on my hardware. I tried to install Karmic Alternate and Lucid Alternate (command line only). After resume I have no screen and the monitor is off. I also tried different pm-quirks, in combination too. I tried to install the nouveau driver on lucid but then the monitor is always off. I guess to install the nvidia-driver is no solution for a command line system?

I'm fairly new to linux. A few months ago I installed Debian Jessie and for the most part everything has gone pretty smoothly. The last piece of hardware I have to get working is my ScanJet 8200 flatbed scanner. From the SANE documentations, I know the hardware is supported, so I assume I must be doing something wrong with setup. It is correctly identified using lsusb:
Code: Select allroot@debian:/home/jessiesgirl# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:8001 Intel Corp.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:8009 Intel Corp.
[code]....
I get an error. Trying to use an application like SimpleScan give me an error telling me that it is unable to connect to the scanner.

I have an Acer 1200X with an Nvidia 8200 graphics GPU integrated on the motherboard. I have an HDMI and VGA output. I have downloaded the Nvidia graphics driver using envyNG and the old fashioned way. I have tried configuring the monitors 15 ways from Sunday in the configuration and I cannot for the life of me get dual monitors to work.
When I go into configuration with the Nvidia wizzard it blanks like its going to work then just stays black with the mouse cursor. I also cannot save as I get a "parsing" error. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and have even tried using envyNG to get the monitors to work on twinview... NOTHING Hope someone can help!
My dad who is a Linux nut came over to help and he left 3 hours later because were tempted to chuck the computer out the window...I need to figure this out as this is going to be my work computer and I need dual screens.

I have installed Ubuntu long ago, and I just loved it =), but I have been quite disappointed about the drivers support of some components, for example: I have a USB Modem ZTE MF622, my ISP is TMN. I have read about people that have configured it Ubuntu 9.04 and with another ISP, but when it comes to Ubuntu 9.10, nothing appears to be working.

In Linux, passing "pci=nomsi" to the kernel before it boots generally helps it "find the hard drive". In windows however, it wont even install. It loads all the components then when it says its starting Windows, it comes up with an error, just gives a code, no explanation. Now granted this has more to do with Windows then Linux but there is no forum for that here and this is related. I wanted to try and run some games that would not work under wine nor virtualbox, so i shrunk my partition to make room for XP and it wouldn't install. If you're just going to lecture me on the lack of need for windows please to not respond to this. The specific motherboard is:

Imagine this scenario at my home: I'm working on my laptop using WLAN receiver as I have a router installed at my home. Suddenly the electricity fails (it's a regular incident here in Bangladesh called Load-shedding) and the power source to modem and router dies.As a result, my internet connection drops. To connect to the internet without power, I use this QUBEE UH-235 WiMAX USB Modem. Now I know QUBEE may not be there in your country. But after a bit of research I figured that this UH-235 modem is commont every country. QUBEE just branded its logo on the device and the software within. This one is not my device, mine is here.
In my windows, the software is installed as soon as I plug in the USB. That software then detects the modem, scans for network, and then connects to the internet. No extra CD is required for this. However, on an Ubuntu machine, I can't get it working. I guess there are ways to get this UH-235 modem working on my Ubuntu machine. This is keeping me from using Ubuntu as you know I'll have to restart and log in to WIndows whenever electricity is off as Ubuntu works with Wi-Fi, not this UH-235 modem when the Wi-Fi is out of power

I just can't seem to get this thing going. I've also tried Gnome-ppp. Press detect and it says "no modem installed" I did install it in Windows as well to make sure the darn thing actually works. It did perfectly.
Your US Robotics modem attached at /dev/ttyACM0 >>> The problemt: wvdial for some reason cannot use it
I had to edit the /etc/wvdial.conf file with gksudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
john@ubuntu:~$ sudo wvdial
[sudo] password for john:
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
--> Cannot get information for serial port

This is really weird, and I would like just this question answered: I've spent like 2 hours by plugging, unplugging, rebooting, and doing everything I could, but the modem wasn't working. When I did ls /dev/ttyU* it was showing up a list of 6 usb devices.
Code:
/dev/ttyUSB0 /dev/ttyUSB1 /dev/ttyUSB2
/dev/ttyUSB3 /dev/ttyUSB4 /dev/ttyUSB5
And when I sent the command wvdialconf after looking into all the devices, it didn't recognize any modem.
The thing is, that by the time I was writing here for a solution, I disconnected the modem, and when I reconnected it I did a ls /dev/ttyU* just to copypaste the info, and Voil! there were just 2 devices, and wvdialconf worked out just fine! I would like to know what I was doing wrong, so I make sure it won't happen again.
Oh, and I forgot to say: I use Ubuntu 8.04
