Ubuntu :: Stop Maximus From Maximizing Nautilus?

Feb 10, 2010

I like having Maximus working on my netbook for most programs. There are a few I found it annoying for and I was able to successfully tell Maximus to exclude them (Tomboy and the terminal).

However, I can't figure out what the window name for Nautilus is to tell Maximus to exclude it. I've tried Nautilus and nautilus (not sure if case matters)..

Ubuntu :: Stop Nautilus From Managing The Desktop?

Nov 5, 2010

How does one go about stopping Nautilus from managing the desktop? I want to use Conky, but every time I click on the desktop, it disappears. (Don't refer me to the supposed fixes by changing "own_window_type" because that's not what I want, it doesn't work) I don't use my desktop for any icons and I have no wallpaper, it's just #131313. Does anyone know how I can eliminate the file manager from managing the desktop so I may use Conky? (I have had similar problems on different distros with different file managers controlling the desktop, so I assume stopping Nautilus from managing the desktop will solve it this time)

CentOS 5 :: Nautilus Does Not Stop Automounted NFS From Unmounting?

Jun 22, 2010

A client is having a problem with a recently installed CentOS 5.5 x86_64 Virtual Machine (under VMware ESX 3.5). The problem is reported by the user as "Nautilus windows closing after a time when looking at data from the NFS server".

The folders the user is using are in a file system that is NFS mounted from a Solaris 10 file server cluster (VCS). These are mounted using autofs. These are direct mounts as in:

$ grep ^/- /etc/auto.master
/- /etc/auto.direct
$ cat /etc/auto.direct
/opt/user-data fileserver:/export/org/data/something/something

I have reproduced the problem by logging in and opening a number of folders using Nautilus under /opt/user-data. After a while, all Nautilus folder windows that are under /opt/user-data will close and when this occurs you can see from the command line that autofs has unmounted the area from the file server.

This should not occur because Nautilus having a window open should count as the folder being in use and should stop autofs from unmounting it. I don't know if this is an autofs or Nautilus bug but I suspect it's a Nautilus bug in it not keeping some kind of access open on the folder. System information:

The system was updated at install time. /boot/grub/grub.conf has "divider=10" appended to the kernel line.VMware Tools are installed. NTP is also configured and steps the time to UTC at boot if required (maybe this is overkill). autofs and Nautilus versions are:

$ rpm -qa | egrep autofs|kernel|nautilus | sort
autofs-5.0.1-0.rc2.143.el5.x86_64
kernel-2.6.18-194.3.1.el5.x86_64
kernel-2.6.18-194.el5.x86_64
nautilus-2.16.2-7.el5.x86_64

Ubuntu :: Where's The Documentation For Maximus

May 20, 2010

I'm running the netbook remix on my laptop and I really like the user interface. Particularly, maximus auto maximizing your windows. I've figured out that for the apps I don't want to maximize, I can add them to maximus' ignore list. But, with Chrome and a custom app that I'm writing, I want maximus to maximize the main window but not maximize any window that the application opens. The basic use case is when I click my delicious button in Chrome, I don't want the resulting window to be maximized. Is it possible to fine tune maximus this way? tl;dr - Is it possible to fine tune maximus to only maximize an application's main window but not the child windows? - Where can I find more detailed documentation on maximus?

Ubuntu :: Maximus Is Misplacing Windows?

Nov 20, 2010

After giving it a try for the last month, I decided to ditch Unity and switch to the EFL version of the old netbook launcher. To gain the ability to modify the panel, I followed the steps on this page to convert the normal Gnome session to emulate the netbook remix session.

It worked... sort of. My problem is that certain applications are being misplaced by Maximus. I first noticed the problem after I set the top panel to auto-hide, at which point certain apps, like gnome-terminal, weren't being maximized. After I disabled auto-hide on the top panel, gnome-terminal and certain other applications are being maximized, but they're shifted down so that there's a sizable gap between the top of the window and the panel. To make things even more interesting, window controls are still where they're supposed to be as far as clicking with the mouse is concerned, so that I have to click where a certain object should be rather than where it is.

I've tried deleting the Gnome configuration directories (e.g. .gnome, .gnome2, .gconf, etc.), but other than resetting my panels, it didn't have any effect.

EDIT: If I unmaximize a window and then maximize it manually, it displays correctly, so it seems like the problem has to be with Maximus...

Ubuntu :: Twinview & Maximizing Not Working Correctly?

Apr 18, 2011

I am having issues maximizing windows/applications on triple monitor setup. I would like to maximize wine, folder explorer, media players, and etc to one screen, instead of across both, which it is currently doing that. Using Separate X [xinerama] + twinview, but I have also tried without xinerama + twinview. When maximizing applications and such, it will only maximizes across both of the monitors in the twinview setup, not the separate X on the left. The separate x has maximizing working to that one screen. I have tried to add xorg tweets, but that's not working, and they are currently in my xorg post below. I had maximizing to one screen working perfectly with dual monitor setup. :S And, I am currently getting an error about " Xlib: extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0""

The following Xorgs show the differences, I guess if there is one between maximizing correctly to one screen.

Triple Monitor setup, maximizing across both twinview monitors, not preferred:

Code:
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 260.19.06 (buildd@yellow) Mon Oct 4 15:59:51 UTC 2010

Ubuntu :: Gnome Panel Ignored When Maximizing On Dual Screen?

Nov 24, 2010

I have searched long and hard for an answer to this one, only to discover that this is apparently a long-standing, unresolved bug. Therefore, I am looking for some sort of workaround that resolves the issue without having to revise my desktop layout in the process.I am running a dual monitor setup through nVidia's TwinView setting. The primary monitor is 1600x900, secondary is 1440x900, and the secondary is placed to the right of primary. I am running Lucid with the compiz window manager.

On the primary monitor's portion of the screen area, I have a right- and bottom-side panel, and the secondary monitor has only a bottom-side panel. When maximizingapplications on the primary monitor, the bottom-side panel area is taken into account and the vertical resize ends there. However, the application maximizes underneath the right-side panel to the monitor's full horizontal dimension and thereby becomes partially obscured. The issue, as best I can tell, is that the window manager does not recognise a panel that is officially positioned in the center of the X screen as being a boundary despite it being linked to the right edge of the monitor, which does qualify as a boundary.

Causing the application to maximize over the panel is not an acceptable solution, as it denies me access to the utilities I have set up there. The so-called "autohide" is also unacceptable, as that simply causes the panel to drift onto the secondary monitor and then enter a loop where it flips back and forth between monitors when I attempt to access it.

OpenSUSE :: 'maximize Window' Effect - Delay When Maximizing Windows (Gnome)?

Mar 2, 2010

Using gnome I love the desktop effects, except the 'maximize window' effect. There is an annoying delay when I maximize a window. Is there a way to turn this particular effect off, while leaving all the others on. I looked in control center>desktop effects, but the option is not there. The only way I could turn off the maximize effect was unchecking the "enable desktop effects" checkbox. But this turns all effects off. All other effects run smooth and snappy.

Does anyone know how I can move the location bar in nautilus up by the toolbar, as shown by this pic:

I'd rather not have to download the source of nautilus and edit the code / compile it myself.

By the way, a guy on Ubuntu Forums thought this was a mockup. It's not. It's the regular version of Nautilus, only I removed some toolbar buttons through the /usr/share/nautilus/ui xml files.

I just want the location bar next to the toolbar to conserve screen space, and be a bit more like Finder.
