I have an interesting issue with simple scan. When I scan a single page document, the exposure is not very good because there are dark and light areas scattered over the entire document. Of course, one cannot adjust these settings in simple scan as one can with xsane. However, I noticed if I scanned a multiple page document, all pages after the first seemed to be more consistent and the exposure was fairly good (exposure here referring to all the aspects accessable in xsane such as brightness, contrast, gamma, etc.)
So I tried a little experiment. I scanned a single page document as if it were a multiple page document by scanning the document multiple times in the same session. The same thing occurs as if one were scanning a multiple document: the first page is mottled, but all pages after are much better scans. What is happening here?
I have a Lexmark interpret S405 all in one. I got it to work as a wireless printer with the downloads provided by Lexmark. I installed simple-scan (sane) to enable scanning. Simple scan works, since it sees another all in one printer in our house and is able to scan. In addition, simple-scan does work on the Lexmark when I hook it up with a USB cable. HOWEVER, for some reason simple-scan does not see my Lexmark, despite the fact that it is seen as a wireless printer. So, the following discrepancy is present
a) My Lexmark is recognized by my computer as a wireless printer
b) Simple-scan does work, since it recognizes and scans another all in one and it does work with my Lexmark when connected with a USB cable
c) Nevertheless Simple-scan does not recognize my Lexmark all in one wirelessly. My question to this distinguished form is: How can I make simple-scan recognize my Lexmark wireleslsy?
I was wondering if there is anyway to adjust scanner settings less not plugging in a scanner with using Simple Scan?I recently found out (sadly) that I could change the DPI settings for document and picture scans when my USB wasn't getting the scanner.Gave a prompt notification bar above and asked me to select scanner (which I replugged it in) and was able to do the settings. Is there a shortcut or command I can use to trigger this any time I need to?
I just got an Epson Perfection V330 Photo scanner. After connecting it to Ubuntu 10.04, it's not recognized by XSane and Simple Scan. The relevant lsusb output:Bus 001 Device 008: ID 04b8:0142 Seiko Epson Corp.Google does not yet know "04b8:0142",.
I had a hard time finding out how to change -- get to-- the simple scan preferences. There is no batten on the screen to open preferences window. I found two way to change the preferences on simple scan.
1. Easy way: I found that when you run a program in gnome an icon of that application appears on top bar. If you click on that icon a window will appear and one of the items on that window is preferences, by clicking on that you could open preferences window, and change your preferences.
2. Hard way: Go to applications and open dconf Editor then go to org section click on it then go to gnome section click on it then go to Simple-Scan click on it now you can change things
just now i have installed squid, it works fine with authentication . I created this authentication in a simple text file by using htpasswd . my question is that is there any web based simple page to change passwords of squid users, because each and every time i cant give direct access to server for my squid users .
My needs require the ability to scan multiple documents each day. Ever since 10.04 my HP J4580 All-in-One scanner operation has progressively become worse. With 10.10 it completely quit working. As is so often the case, the HP J4580 All-in-One works flawlessly in Windows so I know it is strictly a Ubuntu related problem. Do a search of my threads and you will see that I have receive very little help with this issue. that is another problem I have been having.I have reverted back to 9.10 and all my scanning issues are resolved. I have followed several threads offering solutions with no success. I know the issue is with the removal of xsane from Ubuntu. Versions after xsane 0.996 is when the problem surfaced. On my system (desktop) I have been greatly disappointed with the last 2 releases. Firefox has even started having random crashes in 10.10. I tire of spending so much time trying to correct these issues.I will not quit using Ubuntu but I will not be using the latest two releases for a while. 9.10 worked great and I will keep it until support ends. You get what you pay for so I will not blast Canonical or the software developers. I would hope that prior working hardware would not lose functionality with the release of a new OS version.
I'm looking for an easy solution (1 click install) to scan multiple pages to one pdf file on openSUSE 11.2 with gnome. Most tools only support 1 page tobe scanned to pdf.gscan2pdf looks like a solution but I can't get it running on 11.2.(missing dependencies e.g. perl-forks)
Notwithstanding that I might not want to do this because of the large file size, how would I scan a multi-page document into one image file (probably a jpeg)? The only way I know how is to, after making seperate jpegs of every page, manually pasting the images below each other in a photo editor, which of course is a lot of trouble.
Is there any scanner that can scan multiple pages at a time? Without human intervention. Then put all the scanned pages in 1 tiff file or multiple gif or png or jpg files. A scanner that works with Linux. I need make and model.
I have a file which contains the data i retrieved through prstat and an array that contains all the unique process ID's of that particular file. i want to compare each and every line in the file with each and every element of the array so that i can create multiple files for the multiple value in the array.
how one professionaly would solve the security and administration for the multiple webadmins, but firstly I give some general information.I spent 2 days searching and there are alot of good guides but I dont see my specific questions answered, not so I can understand them atleast.I have Ubuntu 10.10 64bit server edition installed.I am educating myself and am new to linux but use vmware and have installed Gentoo multiple times and a copy of Ubuntu server. This server is going to be setup on the 64-bit 10.10 Ubuntu virtual machine.
I don't have any problem when I'm communicating with one client. The problem starts when I connect another client. The server eventually ignores the older clients and responds only to the latest one.The working mechanism is simple: Accept connections and print messages received from multiple clients.
I have a server that host's several sites, recently I had to create a new server because the old one isn't good enough for me. Ive installed apache2 on the new server and moved all the files from one server to the other. I'm making tests in my local lan so I've edited my computer's hosts file to point to the name of each site to the local ip of the new server:
Obviously Nagios will page out once for each host and service goes down. But, is there a way to configure it to page out once, kind of like "Hey, LOTS of stuff just went down." Rather than 200+ individual pages?
I have a page which is going to be internationalized, and available in more languages. It contains PHP scripts to load, let's say, current user's data from database and the internationalized content itself, like "Welcome user" message. The problem for me is the fact, that internationalized content is not continual, and it's all over the page mixed with php scripts.
I don't want to use eval(). I've got 2 , they are, however, not good enough. 1. One file per language version, with scripts included - there will be many languages, so there would have to be many files with redundant data. Also if I wanted to change structure of script, I would have to change it in all pages. 2. Load international data from db, while scripts are on the page - not sure about good database structure I mean, how would I get the right content from database? (content would be split into rows, columns, or something?)
I am using Xfce as the desktop enviroment and Mozilla Firefox as the webrowser. Within the webrowser window, I do File>Save Page As. I save it, and the result is almost always foo.html and directory foo_files. But I think under KDE I could choose the format, one of them being something like "Single page" (only one file; the colecction of .png, etc is embedded into that file). And this is the format I want Xfce (or Firefox) to use when downloading to hdd.
In my logs for Apache I have lots and lots of failed attempts for incorrect incarnations of [URL]. None of them are anywhere near my alias for the index.php but yet phpmyadmin is broken. Is there away I can mess up robots like this. Send IP's that create multiple wrong page requests on my server back to their own IP address maybe? I would then just set thresholds to decide how strict to be. I did try fail-to-ban before but it is cryptic. I don't have it on this particular server.
I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.
I've been looking though different editors for one that has good printing support. Ideally it should be able to print C++ code with line numbers, syntax highlighting, multiple columns per page, customizable fonts and sizes and a print preview feature so that I can make sure it looks right before sending it to the printer. It appears that notepad++ had at least some of these features, but it is not available on linux. The best I could do so far is to copy/paste the output of 'cat -n foo.cpp' into oowriter and format it into two colums. I don't get synax highlighting though and I have to manually replace tabs with a few spaces as well as some excessive leading spaces before the line numbering.
Coming in Linux 2.6.39 but probably really here under your nose in 2.6.38: mblk_io_submit Ext4 will now by default use the "Multiple Page-IO Submissions" mblk_io_submit option, which is said to considerably improve performance and scalability. The code behind it was already added to the kernel with version 2.6.37; however, just before this Linux version was finalised, the Ext developers disabled the function by default because it caused data corruption in certain situations; the responsible bug was fixed in the stabilisation phase of 2.6.38.So is that true? Does 2.6.38 have a deactivated-but-perfectly-usable EXT4 file system performance option by the name of mblk_io_submit? On Natty (well really Lucid running a back-port of 2.6.38 but Natty should be even easier) I added it to /etc/fstab like this:
i'm a college student studying pc programing, and i was given today a special work and i have to program using miranda... which i've never used it >.< can anyone give me a hand to where to download, how to compile, and a simple tutorial for making a simple program or something?
i am able to try ubuntu and everything works fine until i try to install. the menu comes up to the first page where it tells you to plug in your machine and make sure there is enough disk space and network connectivity. when i hit next on this page the mouse icon changes but the next page never loads. the longest i let it hang there was 2 hours. ive tried multiple times with the same result.
im running from a flash drive on an ASUS Eee PC 1001P-PU17
10.04; 64 bit In Firefox, the size of the fonts varies greatly from site to site. Some are too small to read, others huge. Some headings and menus overlap.Screen size: 1152 x 864
My settings are: Proportional: serif 14 Serif: Times New Roman Sans serif: Arial Monospace: Courier New 14
On FC11 64 bit with Adobe flash plugin for Linux installed, I see segfault errors from "npviewer" in /var/log/messages. The only browser I have tried yet, Firefox, has glitches every now and then. Sometimes it shows the title of a page in a tab, but the page is blank. This can even happen when I try the Google main page. Is it true that npviewer has something to do with Adobe flash? Is there a way to fix the problem? If it is caused by Adobe flash, is there a different plugin that will replace Adobe flash player?
