Notwithstanding that I might not want to do this because of the large file size, how would I scan a multi-page document into one image file (probably a jpeg)? The only way I know how is to, after making seperate jpegs of every page, manually pasting the images below each other in a photo editor, which of course is a lot of trouble.

I'm looking for an easy solution (1 click install) to scan multiple pages to one pdf file on openSUSE 11.2 with gnome.Most tools only support 1 page tobe scanned to pdf.gscan2pdf looks like a solution but I can't get it running on 11.2.(missing dependencies e.g. perl-forks)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large image that I want to print over 4 pages, each page showing 1/4 of the overall image, that I will past together. I'm doing this from GIMP on an up-to-date fc12 system. Searching around I find that there is a "scale" field in the print dialog and the lp command that cups supports and according to the documentation if I set scale to "200%" it should do what I want.However, when I set scale to 200% I get only one page with the upper left 1/4 of the page and then nothing. How do I get it to print the remaining 3 pages?

Essentially, I need something thatdoes the exact opposite of pdfnup (or psnup). Google and apt-cache search are giving me no love.Platform is Linux, open source preferred; as I've got a great pile of these to do something that can be scripted (as opposed to a GUI) would be nice, so I can just give it a list of them and have it chew away.A pre-existing script isn't the only option, either; if there's sample code to manipulate PDFs in similar ways with a third-party library, I can probably hack it into doing what I want.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe problem I have is with Kooka. I'm using Canon LiDE20 scanner, KDE 3.5.7 and Kooka 0.44 and Mandriva 2008. When I do a preview scan the outline of an image shows up in the preview window but no image. When I do a final scan - no image or image number (usually it's "scan-001.bmp")The interesting thing is that I have two users accouts on my machine and Kooka works just fine under another user. So, it's not Kooka software or the scanner itself. Is anything in the KDE user's account that can mess-up the Kooka?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy needs require the ability to scan multiple documents each day. Ever since 10.04 my HP J4580 All-in-One scanner operation has progressively become worse. With 10.10 it completely quit working. As is so often the case, the HP J4580 All-in-One works flawlessly in Windows so I know it is strictly a Ubuntu related problem. Do a search of my threads and you will see that I have receive very little help with this issue. that is another problem I have been having.I have reverted back to 9.10 and all my scanning issues are resolved. I have followed several threads offering solutions with no success. I know the issue is with the removal of xsane from Ubuntu. Versions after xsane 0.996 is when the problem surfaced.On my system (desktop) I have been greatly disappointed with the last 2 releases. Firefox has even started having random crashes in 10.10. I tire of spending so much time trying to correct these issues.I will not quit using Ubuntu but I will not be using the latest two releases for a while. 9.10 worked great and I will keep it until support ends. You get what you pay for so I will not blast Canonical or the software developers. I would hope that prior working hardware would not lose functionality with the release of a new OS version.

For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.
when i input man <cmd>.....it's saying formatting pages....n then it is displaying blank page.

Detects the type of the picture (wide, normal) and does the resize based on that. What I mean by that is that it should not break the image by shrinking it more in one direction then in the other so it looks weird. The purpose of this is my Blog. If I want to give my readers a wallpaper, I want to give them several options for the sizes so they can have it in their own preferred screen resolution. The image must however keep its original aspect ratio.

When I scan a single page document, the exposure is not very good because there are dark and light areas scattered over the entire document. Of course, one cannot adjust these settings in simple scan as one can with xsane. However, I noticed if I scanned a multiple page document, all pages after the first seemed to be more consistent and the exposure was fairly good (exposure here referring to all the aspects accessable in xsane such as brightness, contrast, gamma, etc.)
So I tried a little experiment. I scanned a single page document as if it were a multiple page document by scanning the document multiple times in the same session.The same thing occurs as if one were scanning a multiple document: the first page is mottled, but all pages after are much better scans. What is happening here?
Are there any reliable ways to print libreoffice or openoffice drawings to multiple pages. I have two drawings I designed for 11" x 22" sheets, and I'd like to print one of them to 4x or at most 6x 8 1/2" x 11" sheets, without reduction.
So far, when I've tried this using "print to multiple sheets," the results have been erratic, and have basically wasted paper and ink with no usable results.
I can't even preview this.
I am using the old trick of creating a duplicate file, and creating for duplicate slides within it, making each slide one group, and using the alignment settings to make each slide match one corner of the original image. It works, but it is kinda clunky.

I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.

Everything is fully functional that I know of, but I would like to fix them. I have tried checking the system but it doesn't work. I have AVG Antivirus and Registry Defense installed. It has supposedly fixed things but the error messages still pop up.Would a malware remover work?
If so what would be a good one?
I have a couple of gigs of png files, each with 5-7 photos on each file. Currently I am making 5-7 duplicates of the file, then opening each one in gimp, and cropping and saving each one. kind of time consuming. Does anyone know of a program that will let me split an image into multiple slices?

I used to run lighttpd with php in my server until now and all was fine.But yesterday I changed my website which needs apache to run. So installed apache using yum install httpd command.
Then I added the virtual host name of my domain in webmin panel but when i try to run my php script in browser then its not opening php pages.
Instead it downloads php files like index.php when i open in browser.So I guess apache is not able to compile and run php pages. Only html pages are opening right now..
I've been out of the Linux loop for a little while, but a customer of mine wants a "No Virus) desktop environment, I have gone through the process of installing and configuring Ubuntu 10.10 to work with their client side software, but for the life of me, I can't remember if or how I can create an exact image of this file-system to install on all of the desktops.I would need to have all of the installed programs, Security Certificates, Display settings... basically, I need exactly what I have right now installed from the disc so that "IF" the customer needs to install the environment on new systems, I can just pop the disc in and run.

This is no issue, however the problem comes when I want to have a single, read-only image as the base image and want to be able to boot multiple computers off this image.Licensing issues aside (let's assume that this complies with all licensing issues, or we can think of it as just a conceptual "how could we do this"), the basic issues are thus:Each boot of Windows will require a writable AoE device...The original disk image must be read-only to avoid changes in 1 boot affecting all boots(As far as I know) The AoE device must be a disk image, or some block device rather than a mounted file system (if this is not so, aufs could be used)So the long and the short of this, from what I can tell is that we need a read only device that we can write to.
At the end of a session, the changes to the device will be discarded, so these can be thought of as simple temporary sessions. This means that there is little concern with having changes to the original read-only image effecting the modifications to the "duplicate" images.
I would like to avoid duplicating the image for each instance, however if no solution can be reached then this could be a possibility (every boot, we can copy the image, give the fresh image to the new boot and remove when done)Optimally, changes to the filesystem will be written to a different filesystem (much like what aufs does, however as stated earlier, afaik aufs only deals with 2 mounted file systems, whereas we need the end result to be an image or block device)Sorry if I havn't explained this particularly well, however I've been trying to think of solutions, caveats and generally how to define the problem as I was writing. If you think that this idea is ridiculous because software x handles the problem better, I'd be very pleased to hear about it, but the basic requirement of temporary, network bootable windows xp sessions still applies.
I'm trying to connect one computer to two others in an ad-hoc infrastructure.

I'm starting to have A LOT of opened windows in my machine. Sometimes within a project, I have e-mail/task management/personal e-mail/twitter, and a lot of different opened applications/terminals in my Linux workstation.Sometimes it would be interesting to have different workspaces to projects instead of this configuration I have nowadays that are classes of work (bad name, I know, but I think you got the idea).I'm starting to think about using two monitors: one with Corporate Management, Work and Personal. The second monitor is only the development state: each workspace here is about a project being worked on instead of groups of works like before. A workspace may be implementing different classes for example.
My question is: I just want to change to a second monitor using the mouse. I want to still be able to change workspaces in the same monitor using keyboard shortcuts. The keyboard shortcuts wouldn't change monitors, just worskpaces on the same monitor. All the tutorials I read (like this one) only tells how to use multiple monitors but doesn't answer my question about keyboard shortcuts.Does Linux (Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx or Debian 5.0.5 Lenny) support this envisioned setup (Different workspaces in a way that keyboard workspace switching only works in the current monitor) ? If so, how?I haven't tested this setup, that's why I'm asking. In this question the user says it works exactly how I want it to behave, can someone else confirm it?
I have a workflow whereby I scan paper documents into searchable PDFs using a Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 document scanner. I am not a great fan of the bundled software, but it's dead simple to use: place a stack of paper at the top, push the green button and a searchable PDF comes out.Now, I'd like to do something similar on Linux (Ubuntu 10.10). The scanner is supported out of the box.I've looked at gscan2pdf and XSane:
XSane looks powerful, but not really suitable as a workflow solution;gscan2pdf is a bit closer to the "push the button, get the PDF" ideal, but still not 100% there.
I have just started using puppy linux 5.2 ( lucid) which has transformed my old PC . The only real problem encountered is that I cant get my HP 1050C to print or scan . Running the cups wizard gives me the option of the printer and I found a driver in the list. The table below shows the printer settings being used . Sending jobs or maintenance to the printer has no effect although the cups system says they are complete . Xsane does not see the scanner . The printer functions fine under windows . I am obviously missing something very basic

* Internal accounting system to download and process emails
* Public web server to visit
I could put each system on its own separate box -- for example, it's generally good practice to separate anything that external users have access to (such as a webserver) from internal processes such as accounting. Now, rather than dishing out the money for two separate servers, could I get away with just installing new instances of VMWare on the same box for each system?
To give you an idea, these are not large scale computationally sensitive systems. The accounting one is simply downloading and tallying emails, and the latter is just a webserver with maybe 5 hits per day on a good day. I could definitely pick up a new box for say $50, but I wanted to know the general practice of using VMWare on the same box versus two separate boxes.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to Linux, and I have ran a Windows XP server before, with a Apache2 Server software for Windows. and didn't have any problems with it, but I really want to set this server up with Linux.
The server is running, but the only thing that comes up in the browser, is the html pages, the pages call all the images from a folder /images/ but for some reason I can't get it to pull the folder up. None of the graphics show on any of the pages.
I also have a VirtualHost setup, and have another website set up in the DocumentRoot with the 2nd site, but it won't come up ether, even tho it is listed as the 2nd VirtualHost, and have that folder set up as the DocumentRoot.
I'm just using IP Addresses for now till I get this all sorted out.So if I enter the IP the main page comes up, just no graphics. if I enter the IP Address/2ndSiteFolder/ I get a directory listing with the 2nd site folder listed, so now if I click on the 2ndSiteFolderName, it comes up as IP/2ndSiteFolder/2ndSiteFolder/ Now the 2nd site comes up, and so does all the Graphics for that site, even if I go to some of the other subfolders site. So its just weird. I don't know what I need to do to get this to work right.
I know it has to do with setting up the folders for VirtualHost, I just don't know what it is. I have been working on this for a week, and I'm not getting anywhere..
