Well I'm using the new 11.04 Ubuntu and would like to have a show desktop when I hover over a corner.

In ubuntu 11.04 unity, i miss the icon to show the desktop with just one click (like in the gnome-panel).
Is there a possibility to get the "show desktop"-indicator?
I upgraded from 10.10 netbook edition to 11.04 and something went wrong. After the grub menu I get the password window on that typical magenta screen with lights. Afterwards I get a message, that the netbook connected to the internet, but the Unity desktop doesnt show. Still the magenta desktop without anything. Already have tried to select the previous linux edition on the grub-menu, but no change.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I was fooling around with compiz settings manager and was trying to get the cube to rotate around, and by doing so I disabled some plugins (because I was prompted to do so) and now Unity is gone and everything opens in the upper left hand corner so much so that I can't move the window. It was pretty rash for me just to disable plugins, how to get everything back to normal.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop and everything worked just fine. When I helped a friend to install it on his laptop unity did not work, only ubuntu classic. On the login screen I choose "ubuntu" and when I log in I get "ubuntu classic" I went back to the login screen and chose "ubuntu classic" and it did the same thing so my question is:
where did unity go?
has anyone else had this issue, I have installed the recommended nvidia drivers and I still don't see unity, I don't know what to do next!
I've been having a problem with debian lately. It seems that sometimes a rectangular corner on the top left of my screen freezes and shows what was previously there. It goes away when I close all open windows but shows up again if I open multiple applications, especially if I open the terminal and another application. It can become very distracting and makes it impossible to see what is on the top left corner of my screen.
I'm including a screenshot of my desktop.
I am running Debian 8.2 Jessie on an Asus Q400A with 8 GB of RAM. I have an Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU @ 3.2GHz and am using XFCE as my Desktop Environment.
I have installed Mint8. I was using VPN connection before to be able to use skype (it's blocked in the Middle East...) but can't get it to work in Linux I've installed the network manager, added and configured the VPN connection but when I click on it to connect it doesn;t do anything. No window popping up, no error message... anyone has got an idea what else I should do in order making it work? or how else can I use skype without logging into private networks?

View 1 Replies View Relatedis it would be possible create a Ubuntu dvd that contains the ubuntu server desktop and alternate install opptions, as well as all four main desktop environments (gnome, kde, xfce, lxde) and unity. since much of the data is redundant between each version cd's it would probably all fit on one disk. then all that would be needed is two disks one for 32 bit and another for 64 bit. i really think that this could work.

I didn't know how else to word that. In 9.10, if you held the mouse over the volume indicator icon on the top menu bar, the current volume would pop up. Same went for the network indicator - hover over it and the current status popped up. Same with the battery indicator. Now with Karmic, I have to actually click on the icons to get any information.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using the Human-Clearlooks theme on Lucid (Gnome) with compiz/nvidia driver.
I'd like to have the scrollbar sliders a bit (only) more visible. Ideally, it would switch orange when I hover it with the mouse, and stay gray otherwise. This is because my screen is quite large, and when the slider is small I find it difficult to find its position.
1. I opened the gtkrc file and set colorize_scrollbar = TRUE in the engine "clearlooks" block. Now the scrollbar sliders are always orange. I'd really like to have them orange only on hover.
2. There is a "clearlooks-scrollbar" style. I tried adding (fg|bg|base|text)[] in it. I found that:A. fg[] is for the arrow within the top and bottom square boxes
B. bg[NORMAL] and bg[INSENSITIVE] define the color of the box containing the arrow (or if colorize_scrollbar = FALSE, the color of the whole scrollbar, including the square boxes and the slider itself)
C. bg[PRELIGHT] is the color of the box containing the arrow when hovered
D. bg[SELECTED] is the color of the slider (permanent)As it was most unsuccessful, I tried to force the murrine engine for the scrollbars only. Now with bg[PRELIGHT] = @selected_bg_color I get something fairly close to my expectations.
Only I'd like the bar to be pre-lighted not only when the mouse is over the slider, but as soon as it is over the scrollbar. Here I must say I'm at loss, and I really can't find how to do it.
how to change the slider color on scrollbar hover?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the Ubuntu 10.10 beta and after intalling, it installed Unity from the Netbook edition.
I thought it was normal so I tried it out for a while but it was glitchy and I didnt like it so I tried disabling it. I couldnt find a way how to do it, and I didnt have any Panels on my desktop and my background was just plain white, all that was visible was the Unity bar on the left side of the screen.
I decided to just reset my ubuntu settings to default without losing any of my Apps, movies, music, pictures etc etc
After doing that I restarted Ubuntu but now all i get its a white background without any panels and only Docky pops up at the bottom.
Is there anything I could do?
