I'm looking at setting up a script that ssh's into our netapp (server01) and then reports an environmental chassis status list-sensors. being relatively new to programming I'm a little lost. I've gotten this far:

I can't for the life of me get the xsensors to work. I installed lm-sensors, the applet and also xsensors.I followed everything on this guide:URl... Went through it more than twice and a couple of restarts. I just can't figure out what's wrong.When I run "sensors" nothing is found. I ran the sensors configuration and it only found one device to add to /etc/modules. Please see the trace below, I would be very grateful if you can help me find the fix for this! I'm trying to get this rather troublesome (and poorly made, I might add) game to work correctly, and right now it has frozen to a black screen with a frozen cursor. I can't figure out how to shutdown X, but while this game is frozen as it is, I might as well figure out what the process status SL+ means. The issue is clear (that the mirror people are using for [updates] is not pointing to the latest set when an uptodate mirror may be being used for your [base]). My question is though how the mirror list decides whether a mirror is fresh. According to [URL] then this mirror [URL] is "green" which presumably means that the system thinks it is up to date (last probe was 1 hour ago). However if you look at the files on the mirror now (12:54 BST, Apr 1 2009) you see that the date of the 5/ branch is 24-Jun-2008. Thus this host is not ready to give you updates to 5.3. Is this a bug?

Now, we use SARG, but my boss told to me, that the main problem of SARG is, that SARG generate huge amount files, which cause problems during migration our servers. He told to me the following condition for change of current tool (SARG):
* standard package of Debian
* generate less amount of files, optimal is to save reports to the database
So I would like to ask you if you know about some tool (I can not find some by google)... and the best would be if you told to me some practical experiences.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had three problems with SELinux: httpd_unify - SELinux prevented my web server from having write access. ftp_home_dir - SELinux prevented my virtual users from connecting to their home directory. textrel_shlib_t - SELinux prevented two separate Unreal Tournament 2.5 mods from running. The troubleshooter did not notify me of any of these problems. I finally figured out how to fix them on my own and did. CentOS had a very concise, albeit excessive SELinux troubleshooter that involved notifying you of every single problem on your server multiple times. Still, I would rather be spammed with notifications than receive none at all.
If I had not switched from a CentOS box, I would not know the chcon command to set textrel_shlib_t to my mods, as I cannot do it in the SELinux Administration without making it global. How do I fix the troubleshooter to report?
I've a physical machine with FC9 running vmware server 1.0.6 with 2 virtual machines. Each virtual machine is also running FC9. Everything was running smoothly until one day, one virtual machine stop. I've checked /var/log/messages of that machine and it says:

Every time I try to do something, I always get: "no space left on device".
I currently know how to run a traffic report on the whole host. How can I setup a cron job to run the report on a paticular virtual host and move it to the directory where it can be view over the net?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a new computer and got it running Slackware64-current. It's motherboard is an ASUS M4A88TD-M and it's processor is an AMD Phenom II x4 965. I decided to get some chassis fans to improve it's thermal performance. But, since I started the computer after installing the new fan (only one of the 3 I got) the fan's speed is at max and it's very noisy. I've installed in the expansion chassis one card, a Linux Media Labs BT484 card. This card works out-of-the-box when installed directly in the system, using the bttv driver. Installed in the expansion chassis, the card still shows up as follows:

When the card is installed directly in the motherboard it gets IRQ17 or 18. I suspect that it does not really want IRQ0, but that there is some problem detecting the proper IRQ over the bus expander. One possible approach I am considering is to build a custom version of the driver where I can set the IRQ manually to something else just to get the driver to finish loading, then see what happens when I run the card. This would at least tell me which IRQ the hardware is really using and whether or not the 0 reported is correct or not.
I just recently changed my motherboard, and now the command "sensors" shows "no sensors detected" I ran sensors-detect but still i get no sensors detected.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is a strange problem. I have Ubuntu server installed on a proper server hardware. My RAID card reports all four HDDs to ubuntu as single drives, which is how i set it up because Ubuntu does not recognize the raid card on the server. Now you might say if thats the case, why dont i remove the raid card and have the BIOS report to ubuntu as four single drives then i can perhaps setup software raid. Well my board has only one sata port.Ubuntu is all setup. on the first drive and i have set the other three up using software RAID.
System works great only problem is it freezes sometimes. Not everytime, just on the odd occassion I use the same Hardware without the raid card and of course just one HDD and it great. No freezes.That leads me to believe its the RAID card.My question is why will it run great for days and sometimes just freeze on me? Probably silly but if theres an issue with the RAID card, it should not work at all, should it?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with a complete LAMP installation (for local developement purpose).
Everything is OK (I installed phpMyAdmin without problems) except for one big problem: php shows 500 server internal error instead of a complete error report.
I tried editing php.ini and in-script runtime configuration but nothing changed.

My ubuntu server was working normally but it suddenly failed to start, stopping after the following message: init: ureadahead-other main process (587) terminated with status 4 after this message, the system halts and does not finish the start up processes.
If I start the server in recovery mode, I get: init: ureadahead-other main process (587) terminated with status 4 [ 21.892940] ACPI: I/O resource w83627hf [0x295-0x296] conflicts with ACPI region HWMI [0x295-0x296] the system also halts and does not start. Right now, I can not use the server at all.
I have a RAID1 array, where mdadm states that one of the disks is "removed." Naturally, I assume one of the drives has failed. The mdadm --detail command tells me that the sda drive has failed. However, further inspection from the mdadm -E /dev/sdb1 command says that sdb1 disk has been removed. I am a bit confused. Can someone clarify which drive is failed? Am I misreading the command outputs?

when I start my raid5, only 2 disks of 3 are active on md0. The 3rd disk is inactive on md_d0.When I do mdadm --examine, the two active disks report 2 active, 2 working, 1 failed. the inactive disk resports 3 active, 3 working, 0 failed.

When these users try to use the up and down arrows to view shell history they get junk characters. I checked and there is no history file in their homes. View 1 Replies View RelatedHere's the background info -- I recently installed Ubuntu server 8.04 on TWO machines that are exactly identical.On one machine, all seems perfect.On the other, when I execute "/etc/init.d/samba status" it always shows that smbd is NOT running.But it would seem that it IS running, since I can access the shares I've set up without difficulty either from smbclient on the server or from the windows boxes on the network.ps ax lists smbd as a process as well.The log tells me nothing -- it just reports that samba started. No errors. Not much of anything in there. And if I execute smbstatus, that works just like you'd expect.since the two machines are identical (and I mean exactly the same), and only one is doing this.
I guess I should be happy since they both work (seemingly perfectly).But it still bothers me that I'm getting the message that smbd isn't running on one of them. I tried uninstalling samba and reinstalling it on the machine giving me the erroneous (?) status message. But that changed nothing.Right now there's no data on the machine, and it's not in production, so just doing a bare metal reinstall of the OS is an option. But I'd like to understand what's happening.

I have just upgraded to Lucid on Ubuntu. I am a long time Pidgin user. I tried using Empathy with Gwibber, but I can't get Gwibber to update my IM status(es) in Empathy, so I want to go back to using Pidgin. (Additionally, I can't get Skype to work with Empathy.)I installed pidgin-microblog and pidgin-mbpurple, and they allow me to view my Twitter feed in Pidgin and update my Twitter status in Pidgin. However, in Karmic, I was also able to specify certain "status availabilities" (one named "Twitter-Available" and one named "Twitter-Away", for instance) to have the IM status message for these statuses become populated with my Twitter feed. This capability seems missing in pidgin-mbpurple in Lucid (and it seems to be the only thing missing from Karmic).
Is there a way to have pidgin-mbpurple update certain "status availabilities" in Lucid (and I'm just missing something) or is this no longer possible?Equivalently, is it possible to have Gwibber update my status message in Empathy? (I just want to be able to update my status once on one of my three computers - and have it propagate to all my other accounts (IM and social networking) and computers).
I have installed ubuntu10.04 LTS in VirtualBox in my home computer(i forgot to tell you i am very new to linux-though i am studying a lot, but....-maybe because of my age "45" i am going slow. LOL. I hope i dont have a heart attack before i finish what i am trying to do in the server). Back to my issue: What i want is to have in the server some enviromental variables running not only for the root user but for all the users,when the server is open and not having to type the following commands every single time i open the terminal.
