View 1 RepliesI'm trying to get this rather troublesome (and poorly made, I might add) game to work correctly, and right now it has frozen to a black screen with a frozen cursor. I can't figure out how to shutdown X, but while this game is frozen as it is, I might as well figure out what the process status SL+ means. If anyone has a link to a list of process status codes and their meanings
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was puzzling over the nss dependence problem that people are having in upgrading 5.2 to 5.3. The issue is clear (that the mirror people are using for [updates] is not pointing to the latest set when an uptodate mirror may be being used for your [base]). My question is though how the mirror list decides whether a mirror is fresh. According to [URL] then this mirror [URL] is "green" which presumably means that the system thinks it is up to date (last probe was 1 hour ago). However if you look at the files on the mirror now (12:54 BST, Apr 1 2009) you see that the date of the 5/ branch is 24-Jun-2008. Thus this host is not ready to give you updates to 5.3. Is this a bug?

I have just upgraded to Lucid on Ubuntu. I am a long time Pidgin user. I tried using Empathy with Gwibber, but I can't get Gwibber to update my IM status(es) in Empathy, so I want to go back to using Pidgin. (Additionally, I can't get Skype to work with Empathy.)I installed pidgin-microblog and pidgin-mbpurple, and they allow me to view my Twitter feed in Pidgin and update my Twitter status in Pidgin. However, in Karmic, I was also able to specify certain "status availabilities" (one named "Twitter-Available" and one named "Twitter-Away", for instance) to have the IM status message for these statuses become populated with my Twitter feed. This capability seems missing in pidgin-mbpurple in Lucid (and it seems to be the only thing missing from Karmic).
Is there a way to have pidgin-mbpurple update certain "status availabilities" in Lucid (and I'm just missing something) or is this no longer possible?Equivalently, is it possible to have Gwibber update my status message in Empathy? (I just want to be able to update my status once on one of my three computers - and have it propagate to all my other accounts (IM and social networking) and computers).
After a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10 I uninstalled empathy (im using skype). The empathy menu in the evolution indicator was gone after that.I also uninstalled gwibber. But the gwibber status indicator remains within the about-me panel... Uninstalling the gwibber package also removes the me-menu which I want to keep actually. Especially the shutdown/restart... part of it. See attachment.I know there is a shutdown panel-app...but its butt-ugly and it doesnt allow to logon/off.
In another thread I read that the gwibber status shouldnt be there if no account for it is configured... which it is not... I do use ubuntu-one though which is in the same menu... I saw that this issue was addressed at some bug report before, but not fixed yet...
Does anybody know a good workaround to get rid of the gwibber status in the panel while keeping the about me and the shutdown button?
Ive seen some fixes for this but they all seem to be specific to the particular user's sources.list . . . ..

I tried to change the basic toolbar to cairo dock,a tutorial that i found told me to write in terminal gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.listso i write it and a window opened,i couled not find the text that told me(the tutorial i mean)so i closed the window, after that i keep taiking the same error

Go to the repository dialogue to correct the problem.

now whene i got in the winehq.list the text has gone and i take this error in update manager,my software center doesn't work and my terminal whenever i type sudo commands says
E: Type sudo is not known on line 55 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
I get this error message: E: Malformed line 57 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse)
I am pretty new to Ubuntu and dont really understand computer
Here is the sources list (??) as well
don't know much, but when I tried to update I get this error:
E: Type 'sudo' is not known on line 52 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list E: The list of sources could not be read.
All I want is for my bootloader to show "Ubuntu" & "Windows XP" which are the only 2 OS's I have installed (dual booting). At the moment it shows Windows XP, Ubuntu, Ubuntu recovery mode & like 2 more.. which are also Ubuntu & recovery mode. I've never selected the other Ubuntu ones, only the first one. So, how can I remove the ones I don't want to show on the list.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThere is a problem with my source list (apparently) I'm running 11.04 if that helps. When I try to use apt-get install update for example, I get: "Malformed line 59 in source list etc/apt/sources.list"The same error occurs when trying to access synaptic package manager, it tells me there is a malformed line and the list of sources cannot be read. This error prevents me from apt-getting anything, updating and i suspect it is affecting the software center too.

I understand there is a file that stores the repositories' information, but I can't find it!Is there a way I can create a list of what applications have been installed? The idea is that if I am running a backup, finding a way to save the repository list and applications installed so if I am upgrading, or fixing a borked system by re-installing Fedora, I could copy the repo list back, and run the applications list like ode:yum install <cat apps.txt?> and get all of the applications I've installed via Yum without having to remember them all?Is there anything else, outside of /home, I should look at backing up? SELinux settings?

Is there an application or plugin which periodically displays the contents of the tasklist or even better, it briefly displays the most urgent/important tasks when I login? Or anything else which automatically displays the most important tasks. Currently I have to open the task list and look at them (which I usually forget). I do not mean some kind of alarm when the task is due but more a daily reminder of what to do.

KMail 1.11.4, KDE 4.2.4: I'm migrating from WinXP to Mandriva, and installed KMail at the weekend. Works fine, but I have a niggle - the message list displays headers grouped by month order. I'd like the option of having a simple list (no groups), and suspect that it could be done - but I haven't been able to find out how. I've checked in the Handbook without success, and a search in LQ hasn't turned up anything yet.Any suggestions gratefully received. If this isn't the right place for a KMail query,
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Samba server running in my Lan (mainly for file and print service). This server will act as a PDC (don't ask why...). I have a question: Under a share I can use the "read list" and "write list" options with groups (eg @users). Is that group a Linux or Samba group? If it's the later, am I forced to use the net groupmap command, or it is sufficient to have a group name in the /etc/group file? Should I add samba/linux users to that group (with net rpc) or is sufficient to have the group membership set in the linux?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI booted up my laptop and the boot sequence got stuck at the boot splash screen (plymouth). I did an esc and I saw a failure message, the error I remember in my panic mode is: fsck terminated with status 8
I rebooted, got the same message. Rebooted again and this time, to my relief, it worked.
1) What happened, should I be concerned? Not sure why it worked after 2 reboots.
2) Is there a possibility this could happen again?
3) Are there any boot log files I could look at?
4) Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or a check of some sort?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell Studio 1535 laptop. No dual boot. The disk is partitioned and I've got my /home folder on the other partition for situations like this.
I have a new install of Ubuntu 10.10 (32bit) installed and I am noticing that on the top right corner where it shows the connection status, specifically the wired connection, it has a white box around it. I have tried changing the themes to something different but it is showing this on all the default themes I choose from. (Specifically Ambiance and New Wave). I am attaching a screen shot to show exactly what I am talking about. I am also using the Nvidia drivers (recommended version).
