Ubuntu Servers :: Nagios Not Acceeible Over Network?
Dec 2, 2010
i have configured nagios NMS on ubuntu 10.10 server edthe same is accessible with [URL]but i am unable to access it over the LAN ....have turned off the system firewall and changed iptable rules to accept all ...however after doing so gave error while starting the apache server itself
I have a bunch of Windows servers and they all connect to 2 networks. One of them is all public IPs (an entire /24) which is protected by a pfsense firewall. The other network is just a 48 port gigabit switch that each machine accesses using a private (192.16 static IP on a separate nic. There is no gateway/DNS/DHCP server on this private network and we want to keep it that way.
I want to deploy a ubuntu server that will connect to both networks. This server will not sit behind our firewall. It will have a public IP address from our /24 and be connected to the switch that feeds our firewall and a second nic with a static private IP that will be connected to our private network. This server will need to run nagios, run a few command line items that grep log files and serve the output via apache, and act as a VPN to allow an outside machine secure access to the private network. Sitting on this private network are various web based GUIs for the switches, UPS boxes, etc that we do not want exposed directly to the Internet. Both of these networks are mission critical so I can't change any existing settings and I can't add anything to the existing firewall. There would only be a couple of VPN connections at a time.
Do you think that ubuntu 10.04 LTS server (32 bit) would be able to handle this? I am looking at running it on a supermicro Atom D525 box with 3G of ram and a small SSD for storage.
I have been running a webserver for a time now. And for fun I thought I would use Nagios for monitoring it. But the installation instruction says install this on webserver01 and that on webserver02. I only have one server and want to monitor it remotely from a simple browser. Is this possible or does Nagios need at least two separate servers? Can't it just run it on my one server?
I started my install of Nagios on Ubuntu 9.10 w.Network Manager. I later found out that network manager doesn or should I say it makes configuring static ip's difficult and that the most direct approach would be to edit the interfaces file. Part of this I read that network manager could be removed, which I did however now with network manager deleted from the system and the interfaces file configured for static. I am able to view the internet however I've seem to have loss the ablity to see my Nagios page locally.
I need to set Nagios and permissions. I get one critical error in Nagios regarding disk. It says: DISK CRITICAL - /home/administrator/.gvfs is not accessible: Permission denied I guess Nagios need a permission to access the administrator folder. How can I set up a permission to fix this error?
I'm trying to setup nagios, and I've looked at several guides but none of them seem to address my problem. Here's the clearest guide that I followed URl...I followed all the instructions on that basica guide, except disabling SELinux. I changed SELinux rules based on URL...I'm not getting any AVC Denials, so that's not the problem. Nagios and Apache both start fine. If I go to my local IP, I get the standard Apache test page. URl...(address from all the guides I read) doesn't resolve.I know that Nagios is at least running from "service nagios status," and I have gotten two alerts emailed to me: swap alert (I don't have swap configured) and disk space.
I have installed ubuntu on Vmware.I work in Lan environment and I have 2 local linux servers in my office.I have installed nagios on ubuntu.but nagios doesnt show other hosts in office. How to do I add other hosts in the office in nagios so that I can monitor network properly?
I have set up nagios on Suse 11.2 and it is working fine on the localhost. I can access localhost/nagios, <ipaddress>/nagios in the browser and it loads up the nagios webinterface. If I try on a computer on the network with <ipaddress>/nagios the request times out. I have tested that I can ping to and from both machines (nagios machine and the machine I am trying to access the interface from). Some detailsNagios is running in a hyper-v VM. I installed it through yast2. Communication is run via a switch and sonicwall firewall but firewall has allow all within the network.I have a feeling it's some apache2 setting that I haven't configured or something blocking port 80.
How to see the code behind the nagios plugin: Nagios Checker? I opened the folder which i have downloaded. After that where do i have to go to see the codes? Is it in App_Codes?
Updating my install of OpenSUSE from 11.0 to 11.3 and notice that the Nagios network monitor can no longer probe servers with self signed certs. It appears to be any monitor that used openssl 1.0.0 has an issue. If I install the openssl 0.9.8 libraries and use old plugins linked against it, they work fine.
So we monitor all of our disk space, but only get pages for critical. What we would like to do is have one email sent to our team every month with all the "Warnings" for our disk. I have been searching and haven't found a way to do this. Any suggestions?
I installed Nagios on my Ubuntu 10.04 server using apt-get and when I accessed the web console, everything was OK. I made some changes to apache (creating some new virtual sites) and since then Nagios gives me a warning message for HTTP with the message, HTTP WARNING: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found. The sites that I created are working perfectly. I noticed that the attemps are 4/4. Does this need to be reset or does Nagios automatically reset that once it detects the issue is resolved?
I've installed the Ubuntu 10.04 Server onto a PPC G4 Mac just for the experience of setting up a server. During the installation process Ubuntu couldn't auto-configure my DHCP Network. I'm using the airport card on a wireless network. How can I manually configure the network once Ubuntu is installed.
I've installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 with two network cards. One for external, and one internal. My problem is that as soon as i activate eth1 (external), i can't access the server from the internal network (eth0)
With these settings i can't reach the internal network from inside. If i disable the gateway on eth1 and enable the gateway on eth0, it works.
Problem with my Internet connection. I can't connect to the update servers. I don't know why. It's a brand new installation, not a week old yet. I can't install the support for restricted media for example. The servers won't refresh in YaST. It tells me it can't download the repomd.xml.asc.
The other problem is that some servers on the web won't load for me either.
For example, I get most of my local news from The Toronto Star, and I can't connect to it's website at all.
I can from Windows (I dual boot) but not SUSE. I don't think its a problem limited to that one website either. I am able to connect to most websites though.
I installed a simple VPN pptp. Works fine to connect to the linux server. However I would like to connect my other linux-server and (more important) my old Novell 6.0 server. Anyone have an idear what I need to change?
I now have the server at the school up and running. Myself as well as one other teacher have no problem finding the server, connecting to it, and even transferring data to and from. I however have one other teacher that get an error when trying to connect. Says that the server name is no longer available.
Recently my OS hard drive died on my wonderful ubuntu server, so I took that chance and upgraded it to 10.04 ... Everything works great except I cannot get any other computer in the house(windows and linux) to see the computer or the samba shares. It is not just the shares that are missing but the server itself does not show up. For my windows machine I verified the workgroup is correct and it still does not show up as a device on the network, ditto for my ubuntu desktop install. Here is my smb.conf
The Short VersionTwo Vista machines connected to a 2Wire wireless router (AT&T UVerse) via DHCP.One (headless) Ubuntu 9.10 Server machine connected (tried both wireless and wired at different times) to the same 2Wire router via a static IP.Samba is installed on the Ubuntu Server.Vista computers connect perfectly to Ubuntu Server.Various file transfers/communications ensue.Ubuntu Server 'disappears' from network.Sometimes after a couple of minutes.Sometimes longer.Cannot ping server.Cannot SSH into server. It's just 'gone'. Reboot server. Everything's fine (can ping, find, connect, etc.) until (some minutes later) server 'disappears' again.
The Long Version
Network Configuration
Code: |---------------------| | Vista Machine #1 | | 192.168.1.70 (DHCP) | |---------------------|[code]..... The Question: Why won't my damned Ubuntu server just stay connected to the network?
I have this 7.10 Ubuntu server that I'm trying to move inside a VM on my ESXi server. I use the VMware Conversion tool and everythings goes well until I try to boot it from inside the VM, the network isn't detected. Now I understand that the drivers may not be working, I'm not an expert here. Also, since this is a 7.10 install I don't have access to the Gutsy repositories anymore.
I'm in a strange situation where i have a windows host with a Ubuntu Server VM running Proftpd which needs to be able to ftp files to a shared drive on the host. This is so the webserver (a separate VM) can access the files in the ftp directory. Also so i can take snapshots of the server without the ftpd files. So, my question is how can i do this? Am i able to mount the share somewhere and use that to store my ftp accounts/files? Is it possible (or is it a stupid idea) to mount the home directory on the share?
I've been having a hard time googling and trying to get ALL network connection to be redirected to squid proxy. I couldn't find a proper configuration for ufw or iptables. The ideas are:
1. redirection rule should NOT depend on a specific network inteface, but should work with any connection type, ex.: ppp0 or eth0... 2. firewall rules can be for firehol, iptables, or ufw (the same as iptables, just tell me where to place them). Preferably ufw or gufw. 3. should not interfere on cups web interface and lighttpd server.
I've followed several guides and am trying to get NFS working on my local network. For starters, I think I should be able to NFS mount a drive on the server (192.168.1.65) TO the server. From there I'll work with another client (currently 192.168.1.80)
i have just installed the 10.04 LTS server on my system.I set up a file server for my windows computers and can connect to the server. However, I was going to update and install a couple of packages, but My system cannot find the update or download server for itIs anyone else experiencing this problem. If not, any ideas on how to fix it.
so i just downloaded Ubuntu Server 10.04 and i'm very happy with it on my virtual machine... but when i try to install it on my actual server it fails.
When i went to install it, it told me that there was no network hardware detected or something like that. So i just thought i could install a driver for it later.
So other than that all went well. and im very happy but now i dont know how to install my network driver. The card is a LYNKSYS LNE100TX. i downloaded the driver software and burnt it to disk because i was out of floppys. (I like floppys better) and when i went to install the software it allmost worked but it said:
Code: make: gcc command not found
I'm assuming that means i need to install gcc but didn't really know how to go about it having no internet.
I am setting up my first server (which will be a file server when complete). I have some experience with a terminal, but not much. I'm not at all afraid of it, and want to learn more (one of the reasons I'm doing this project). At the moment I am trying to get the server to see my network. Using the info I found here: URl... I have been able to ping the router. I cannot, however, reach other computers on the network. Nor can other computers ping the server.I am looking for a newbie guide on how to connect to my local network.
Does anyone know, or have any experience with, what the best way to set a network interface on a linux server to be up - so that virtual machines can bridge through the physical interface, but not allow anyone on a network to connect to the server itself? Thank you
