View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided to fully install Ubuntu 9.10 on my computer Using Entire Disk Space. Installation was completed without any problems so I followed the instructions, Rebooted and took the CD out of the mechanic. After rebooting, when the GRUB was loading, it said the following
Error: no such device: 235ea02c-16b5-4abf-af04-af6767b6848f
I tried rebooting several times, even with CD inside. All it did was it moved to choice of System (normal, safe mode, memory check etc...). When I chose Normal, it just refreshed and did not get me anywhere. The same goes for the safe mode. After a certain while I decided to replace it with 10.04. However, this one stopped at 79% saying sth like Retrieving Data *number* of *number*.
It lasted for too long so I rebooted again, now with 9.10 CD inside again. I installed 9.10 hoping that this time it would work the way it should. However, the exact same thing happend. Installation went smoothly but GRUB booting had that error. Now there is Ubuntu 9.10 on my HDD which would not start so I'm writing this using the "10.04 Tryout".
Problem I have is the Samba server, it does not seem to start up the shares at boot.When I boot the system, nothing is available on the network, I have to run the Samba Server Configuration Tool everytime I want to access a share, edit a share, save and quit, then my network shares become available.I see Starting SMB services during boot up, it says OK.It worked good on Fedora13.

I don't mind using the intel driver and don't really bother about the the boot-up time increase due to this message..
I installed F11 on a SATA 500 GB Hard drive. I plugged this HD in various computers. It worked fine.
However, when I try it on the following platform (the one I have to get it to work): (PC104 bus, AMD 1.1GZ with 512 RAM), I get a file system error during bootup.
On the other hand, the system gave the chance to enter the root password. So, once I did this, I tried to run commands "fsck -f /dev/sda" and "fsck -f /dev/sda1". The command could not find sda or sda1.
I tried the fsck on different platforms (with the same HD), it worked fine.
I returned the CPU board to the vendor, and I am expecting a new board soon. I assumed the problem could be with the board itself. But, I am not sure.
I have downloaded the latest Ubuntu 9.10 and used 'U904p' a program I had for creating 9.04 live USB I had before. I had 9.04 on the USB pen but thought that 9.10 would be better to install right away rather than upgrading it. So I run through the CLI and make it bootable and all that. I come to put in my pretty old (Spare parts mashed together) Linux box. I get this about 1 minute after the Ubuntu logo and loading bar:

Then I am dumped in to Busybox in initramfs command line. I have been googling and look around the forums all last night and this morning. I find loads of stuff from 9.04 but not 9.10? I tried the old 'Pull USB pen when Ubuntu log shows' and 'Changed SATA settings' turned them off in end, using IDE. Could it be that I created it using the old U904p program. I will look in to the newer one. Seen it about on forums. Otherwise any ideas? I am wanting to build a FOG box for imaging all my PC's and trailing it for work.
i want to use linux but i am having some issues getting it to work on my system. my desktop is a p4 3.4gig with 512 DDR. When I insert my ubuntu CD it starts loading but then i get this screen/message:

why I'd be receiving this error. I have created a partition and filesystem and put the label in fstab. Everytime I reboot the server it is unable to mount the filesystem. However I am able to mount it manually.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Lucid, I am getting the following dialog warning on login: 'Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors X Server does not support size requested' Im using the current proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver with dual heads. My display is fine, but the warning every time I login is annoying. After googling around I found this thread: [URL]. I tried going to Monitor Preferences as suggested. My resolution as displayed in the default tool is set to 3840 x 1200, which I suspect is the issue forcing the dialog, but I cant change the resolution, refresh rate or rotation from the Monitor Preference dialog box. dino99's response (in the referenced post) about xorg.conf not being needed anymore seems relevant. How can I resolve this issue and get rid of this annoying warning? Is there a configuration that I can update with a supported resolution to placate lucid?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently setup a new server that serves files over samba and is a subversion repository for a number of projects. I did a simple apt-get update/upgrade for which the system requested a reboot. After I rebooted, I got to the login prompt, at which point I ran into a problem. After I enter my correct credentials, it spits out the following error:
sh: error while loading shared libraries libc.so.6: cannot open shared object file: Error 24
and returns me to the login prompt. Samba and Subversion are both still working, I simply can't login to the server either physically or via SSH.
What steps should I be taking to correct this issue? My thoughts are that I may need to use a Live CD to load the system and perhaps do another update, but before I go through that process I just wanted to check in and see if there might be some other solution.
I have tried googling the issue, and while I have seen other posts regarding shared library issues, there was never anything about not being able to login and I never did find anything specific to the error message I received.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with a complete LAMP installation (for local developement purpose).
Everything is OK (I installed phpMyAdmin without problems) except for one big problem: php shows 500 server internal error instead of a complete error report.
I tried editing php.ini and in-script runtime configuration but nothing changed.
I am getting the same errors everytime I boot the server up:
Error: no such device {SOME-UUID}
Error: no suck disk
After that the system boots normally, but Im afraid ignoring this error can make my system crash in the future. I figured it was a grub error and I tried the update-grub2 command, it does detect all installed kernels no problem, but after I reboot I get the same error message.

I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

And booting from USB doesnt work it comes on loading screen and doesnt do anything.

Up until recently have always been a gnome or xfce user, recently decided to try kubuntu. I like it, but its very slow to boot. I get a blank blue screen (same shade as grub) right after grub has finished its countdown and starts Kubuntu.

I had configured runlevel 3 (I went into /etc/rc3.d/ and removed the symlink to /etc/init.d/gdm) to be w/o GDM, so that if I had chosen it, my box would not boot into X. How can I achieve the same effect in Lucid?

The screen flashes on bootup and makes it very hard if not impossible to login and the gnome menu at the top is gone too. I do not know what he did to it. But I am loading meego on it now.
I seem to have the following problem with Ubuntu. I have two PATA drives in my server. The OS is loaded on the first drive which is the master and the server functions fine. This is what I want to do is to have two 120 gig drives in the system and mirror them. When I put the second drive in set to be a slave the bios see's both drives. After the bios shows what is in the system it hangs with the cursor in the upper left hand corner and will not boot beyond that point. If I unplug that second drive it will boot up with no issues.

I have upgraded from 9.04 jaunty bootup is quite a bit slower than on the old version and is quite tedious is this correct? are there any logs i can upload to see if i have an error some where?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am frustrated that I do not see the kernels menu anymore, which had such useful tools like the different kernels, the ram checker or the recovery mode kernel, allowing recovery from a botched update, etc. As of 10.10, I don't even get the kernel messages flashing by, all I get is a dumbed-down black screen a l windows, then it boots ubuntu without offering me any of these options.
How do I get to it, and how do I get it back?
Have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a couple of Dell Inspiron 2650 laptops (both 512M memory) and when they run, they're great, but they only successfully boot up maybe 10% of the attempts. Most of the time, the touchpad and keyboard are inoperative, but I recall sometimes the enter key gets me past my user Id to input password. Trying to enter recovery mode isn't any better, but once into recovery, I'll boot up in safe graphics, but it is probably only running because it succeeded in entering recovery, anyways. I have elected to to boot up in safe graphics, but they still both freeze. No error messages, just a frozen background/icons screen.
Ubuntu has searched the hardware and reports there's nothing requiring proprietary drivers installed.
After reading all the other problems posted, I figure my laptops are doing pretty darn good, but it sure would be nice not to set around starting up and shutting down, over and over.
I installed SLIM and rebooted. gdm failed to start so I went to the terminal and ran gdm manually from there. Then i logged in and removed slim package, reinstalled gdm and rebooted. Gdm still fails to start at boot up. When i try to manually start it, i get the following warnings:
Warning: unable to load file 'etc/gdm/custom.conf'
Warning: unable to find users: no seat-id found
When it DOES boot, it runs like a champ, and has no issues. However, it tends to freeze up on the boot at the BIOS screen, this issue was around when Windows was on it.
