We have a CentOS server which has beed restarted due to some reason. Now we have ping to the server and we can reboot it via KVM, but the server loads to some messaageThis is filter.unknown_domain (Linux ...)Filter Login:and then it stops. Do you have an idea what might be the problem and how can we fix it?
A simple FTP server which allows me to acces the /var/www/html directory to upload new files for my apache webserver.
What are my problems:
When trying to login it says the following:
***Begin*** [root@ICT2-Gateway ~]# ftp 127.0.0.1 Connected to 127.0.0.1. 220 FTP Server ready. 500 AUTH not understood
[Code]....
As you can see this has nothing to do with faulty firewall settings since i'm only trying this locally. Futhermore the password is 100% correct (and keyboard layout).
Since I've changed alot in my config file it thought it's not worth mentioning here, I'm reverting back to default.
Where I work, the IT people have the systems setup (wrongly in my opinion) to require not just the user's username but to have the username pre-pended with regional info. Like this:Username: RegionName//UserNamePassword: ********The server I maintain doesn't require this (even though I have it authenticate through the same services as the rest of IT (active directory via ldap))The problem is I see lots of authentication errors in my apache error_log file because people are using the RegionName//UserName login
ENV: openssh-server-5.4p1-1.fc13.i686 Problem: I am unable to ssh using Putty (when using ssh-auth/pki) to a fedora box . I get the message: Server refused our key. Here's what I tried so far:
- Tried generating rsa (as well as dsa) keys on the linux server and put the generated public key in the ~/.ssh/authorized_keys. Then I converted the private key using PuttyGen.
- Also, tried generating keys using PuttyGen and then converted the public key and placed it on the server
- Configured the sshd server (ssh_config) for using RSAAuthentication=yes. Tried all combinations and purmutations; however, I still get the "Server refused our key" error.
I tried to install php from source file on centos server and i got the error as # ./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/packages/apache/bin/apxs --with-mysql --prefix=/usr/local/packages/apache/php --enable-force-cgi-redirect --disable-cgi --with-zlib --with-gettext --with-gdbm

Filter access server through the net only to authenticated users from domain controller (Win2k). I have set up a mail server and SASL and have it all working. I can send and receive mail though squirrel mail, receive from outlook, but cannot send from outlook. I am using this guide [URL]. I was even able to authenticate perfectly fine like they do be telneting to the server from root as they did. (Step 5). Now a little later in that step when they hook it up to outlook express is the problem. That doesn't work for me.
I get this error in outlook The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test' Server: 'mail.myserver.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E Protocol: SMTP Port: 25 Secure(SSL): No Socket Error: 10060
Before to describe my problem I want to say that I searched a lot on the internet and I think I tried all the solutions provided by other users to similar problems.
I've got an IBM xSeries 346 server running CentOS 5.5 with all updates applied with yum.
The video card is an ATI Radeon (lspci says: 01:06.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]).
Everything worked fine until a bad day where there was an environmental power failure and the server crashed.
I turned it on, I manually check the file system, some files went lost and after the reboot the X server didn't start.
After the first boot I had problem with /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, sbin/multipath.static and /dev/cpu/microcode, I solved them and now the message it shows is:
"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface) It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?"
I choose OK and it appears an empty log, if I go in /var/log/gdm and I do an ls -al:
total 0 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 28 04:44 :0.log.4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 28 04:44 :0.log.3 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 29 04:52 :0.log.2 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 29 04:52 :0.log.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Oct 29 04:52 :0.log
So a lot of empty log files.
I press enter on the OK that appears at the bottom of the screen and it says: Would you like to try to configure the X server?
I choose Yes, I enter the root password and appears the following messages:
Couldn't start X server on card 0 Couldn't start X server with old config, trying with a fresh configuration
Then another messages:
Trying to restart the X server, I press enter on OK and it loops the initial message ("Failed to start the X server...)
I am recently getting a very weird error on my Webmin. The result of this problem I suspect is I am no longer able to log into my Maia Mailguard which is my Spam Viewer.

I am a newbie trying to install XMLSec on my server. I have CentOS 5 with OpenSSL 0.9.8b. I downloaded xmlsec1-1.0.3-1.i386.rpm from [URL]. While doing rpm -Uvh xmlsec1-1.0.3-1.i386.rpm I get the following error message.
error: Failed dependencies: libcrypto.so.4 is needed by xmlsec1-1.0.3-1.i386 libxml2.so.2 is needed by xmlsec1-1.0.3-1.i386 libxslt.so.1 is needed by xmlsec1-1.0.3-1.i386
I also downloaded RPM's for libxml2 and libxslt from ftp://xmlsoft.org/libxslt/ but each package give further errors rpm -Uvh libxml2-2.7.3-1.x86_64.rpm warning: libxml2-2.7.3-1.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID de95bc1f error: Failed dependencies: libxml2 = 2.6.26 is needed by (installed) libxml2-python-2.6.26-2.1.2.7.x86_64
I'm having a little trouble with ClamAV. Everytime someone sends me an email I get this error in my Webmin Mail Log. Now the mail works and it goes to the quarantine or to the user mail box but this error fills up my mail log and I'm assuming it is not using ClamAV virus definitions to scan the mail? How would I get rid of this error?
I checked in my /etc/clamd.conf and I have AllowSupplementaryGroups yes. What can be causing this error? I am using ClamAV 0.96.1 Spamassassin 3.3.12 PostFix 2.3.3 CentOS 5.5
Our server is a x86_64 centos 5.5 computer. we installed samba3x-3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.1.x86_64.Samba seems work fine, we don't notice any problem in using it. But in the workstation log file, there are a lot of error messages like:
I like the server login information that gets displayed when you login to a 10.04 server. It lists disk usage, CPU usage, Temperature etc...
Unfortunately I had problems installing 10.04 from a USB. At the end of the process the master boot record was stored on the USB and not the hard disk.
But now when I login to my server I don't get the server information.
I've setup my samba pdc with ldap, and I can see my shared files (public), which i think is an indication that my samba is working. But I can't seems to get my win2k8 machine to join my domain.
My domain admin is : root system admin: root password for both domain admin and system admin are the same The message that I get from Win2k8 when I try to join a domain is "The specified computer account could not be found. Contact an administrator to verify the account is in the domain. If the account has been deleted unjoin, reboot, and rejoin the domain"
Has anyone seen this? I have attached a screenshot of it to this post.
When I log in using PUTTY, as soon as I enter my username and hit enter I get Access denied, then a prompt for a password and all works well, it just tells me access denied even though it didnt deny me. its weird.
Just completed a fresh install if V5.3. It works fine.
Samba server: I tried to create a Samba user named "root" with Windows user name "administrator". Message is something like "account already exists"? I know "root" exists, but why can't I use it as a login? I don't get this error when I use another existing user account "LouA".
This is important to me because many documents state that "root" is to be used as the user name. I don't want to change these.
Current set-up allows access to all users (there is no Samba user listed) and I can read, write and delete files from Windows just fine.
Just started to encounter this problem recently: after entering a valid password for a given user during an SSH login, it takes at least one minute to get to a prompt. It usually takes only a second to check the password and drop me to a prompt.
I haven't had this problem before - it seems to have started this week. Only thing I've done this week is run updates. Has anyone encountered this problem recently? Any ideas or fixes that may help solve this? Server info: not exposed to the Internet, only running SSH, fully patched version of CentOS 5.5 x86_64.
We use Cent OS 5.4 as a application server. We would like users to login the server via LDAP authentiction. We want ot use Lotus domino server as a LDAP server. What we should do? how can we configure ldap.conf file? Does anyone cofigured this method before ? when we configured OpenLdap on another CentoOs Server, we can successfully login to Application server. We would like to learn correct configuration on ldap.conf for authenticate via Lotus Domino Ldap server ASAP.
We use powerpath on RHEL servers, with at least 2 paths to each disk, as you know the powerpath creates a pseudo devices called emcpowerX. I was wondering if there is any overhead if we don't use the lvm.conf to filter out all sdX disks? Except the "duplicate PV found" messages on LVM, does it delays the boot of the server?
