View 9 RepliesI am only user on this ubuntu 10.10 install. I have admin rights but when I try to change some settings via Ubuntu tweak unlock or alter user and groups via advanced tab I never get the option to enter my password. I have added a new user 'tempuser' via safe mode and this user is administrator too but everything works fine from this user..
Results from $ grep admin /etc/group
lpadmin:105:heath,tempuser
admin:119:firstuser,tempuser,heath
Results from groups
admin adm dialout fax cdrom floppy tape audio dip video plugdev fuse lpadmin sambashare
I am thinking of making a fresh install if I cant sort this but would like to fix if possible.
I'm trying to edit a "xl2tpd.conf" file but it always says I have no write permission tried to add my account to admin group but it says something about not able to lock on password try later.

Instead of asking for the local-user-login password, as it does for other system changes, it asks for a root password that I never had. What happened? How can I set this right?I made a printscreen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to create a number of internal Linux users for admin purposes. I do not want these users to appear on the initial console login page just after Fedora boots up, as users who can attempt to log in, and I do not want to allow these users to log in directly. I merely want these users to be accessed via su, just like the root user.

I have a LAN of about 70 computers that I would like to share media files between. I have gotten to the point with Samba that I can view the files without a username/password from client PC's. I would like to make all the folders read only except for one which will be writable for everyone. The thing that I am having a hard time with is allowing a couple of administrators (on Windows 7 machines) read/write access for all files/folders. I am completely new to Ubuntu and Samba so please make explanations thorough. Here is /etc/samba/smb.conf file:

2)yum install phpldapadmin
Able to see the default phpldapadmin login page.
ldapadmin throws the error as "Bad username/password.Please try again"
But when i login as anonymous i am able to login but the web page asks whether to create the root domain?
whether anything needs to be done for making it login as admin.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been having some trouble configuring a means to remotely administer an Ubuntu Sever 10.04 machine i recently built and am hoping for some guidance. I'm sorta new to linux so please forgive my ignorance of conf files and the command line . I am looking to have this server serve as...VPN Server, Minecraft Server, KVM Server, Torrent and Dyn-DNS box.I have managed to install all the KVM settings including bridged networking running (Personal victory there) and sorta have Minecraft running (only need to figure out how to make it launch on boot). Torrents already taken care of since Transmission came along with the ubuntu desktop install .The big thing that is slowing me down is remote management. I installed ubuntu desktop (thankfully its Gnome 2), i know that most people don't like it but its what i'm most familiar with. I tried running VNC but always needed to login on the physical machine before I could use that which defeats the purpose. I am now using xrdp which frankly the performance is terrible compared to what i was getting with the built in VNC server and still needed the monitor on and active to connec

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a bit of a problem after joining Ubuntu 9.04 to my company's Windows Domain. I can log in and use sudo just fine but I don't have access to certain things in my menu (i.e. "Add/Remove Software") and I can't open the User Manager. I manually edited the /etc/group file as root and added my username (username@domain) to the appropriate groups but still no luck.

Managing MySQL servers can be quite complicated without a proper tool.I have used some commercial tools over the years, but I need something that is Web based, accessible from internet. There are NOT many offerings out there, so I wonder if, beside one company that launched a product quite recently (Novaquantum), there is something else out there that can I can compare it with?I guess when you find something that you like, you'll always to look for something better (PhpMyAdmin doesn't count!)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had installed apache previously on my system, and I think I uninstalled it completely, although remnants might have remained. I have just installed zend server ce php 5.3, and I am having trouble getting it to work. When I log in to the admin interface, it told me it couldn't start the webserver, so I go to restart apache, and it gives me this:* Starting web server apache2 Syntax error on line 6 of /etc/apache2/sitesenabled/zendserver_gui.conf:Invalid command 'php_admin_flag', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configurationThis has to do with php_mod some how... but I am not sure how to fix this, or where to start, since I am relatively new to actually setting up apache.I thought this might have something to do with libapache2-mod-php... so I went to reinstall it, and ran this:
