root@PkNGssbkpT:/# sudo apt-get install phpmyadmin Reading package lists... Done

You might want to run `apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:

How to compare two wav files [URL] or to be capable to reco simple voice commands? Openbox, fluxbox... can be ran using perlbox voice reco for basic commands. [URL] everything is frequence based:[URL] However we would like to make the use of the ALSA and processing after recording. OK.
Code:
apt-get install -f sphinx2
here is my script:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
# my alsa-1 is my usb mic
arecord -Dplughw:1,0 -f cd -vv voicecommand.wav
[code]....
THe next step is to analysis the wav file just created. The advantage is that sphinx2 works for basic commands + it uses only up to 3% of your CPU resources !

My new VPS is running Debian 5.0 (bash 3.2.29), and some commands seems to be missing. For example the ps command is not here, neither is ls (but dir works). Is there a package missing or what's the deal?

ps is hashed (/bin/ps)

I have found the cause of my problem, but I am not sure what the proper fix is.The issue is I accidentally modified a dynamic library file on my system (symlinked it to another file), and now common commands such as "ls" and "grep" are failing with segmentation fault

When I try execute a variety of basic commands (including ps, ls, ifconfig, locate), I receive the error 'no such file or directory'.
Here are some suggestions that I've found online, that I have tried without success: I did a 'whereis ps' and found the file in the /bin/, and have checked that '/bin' appears when I do 'echo $PATH' I did a filesystem check which showed my hard drive as being clean I tried doing a 'sudo chmod 777 ps' but was told that I dont have permission. I don't think permissions for these files would have changed though (and I can't check as I can't run the 'ls' command).

I use two separate systems both running Debian 8. On one (my main) I can't do some commands including ping, shutdown and reboot without running them as root user, however on my other system I can ping and reboot as a non-privileged user. The permissions on both systems are the same for /bin/ping and /sbin/systemctl (reboot). I thought at first it was something to do with what groups my main was in, but that doesn't seem to be the gase.
I know I can fix it by setting setuid for both, but my question is why is it different on both machines? Is there a global setting controlling this in /etc or perhaps an icmp setting?

I'm on a Dell Inspiron 6000. I installed i8kutils and it works. Fan speed reduces CPU temp from 50C to 44C. A start-up script invokes the i8k module: $ udo /usr/sbin/modprobe i8k force=1 which creates /proc/i8k. The man page for i8kctl is straightforward: a few simple commands to read info from the aforementioned file.So. I know nothing about writing even basic bash scripts. I gave it a go here but I know this is way wrong. Would anyone like to help a guy out? This is my starting point (don't laugh):
Code:
#!/bin/bash
# script to toggle fan speed low/high
[code]...

I have a Cent OS 5.4 32 bit final installed in my dedicated server.
I used to run lighttpd with php in my server until now and all was fine. But yesterday I changed my website which needs apache to run. So installed apache using yum install httpd command.
Then I added the virtual host name of my domain in webmin panel but when i try to run my php script in browser then its not opening php pages.
Instead it downloads php files like index.php when i open in browser. So I guess apache is not able to compile and run php pages. Only html pages are opening right now..

This is what I am trying to get for my dinosaur, Compaq Presario 5050. But I have never booted linux through floppy disks before, so I haven't a clue what I am doing.
In the read me from the site I linked above, it said they need to be 1.44 M and DOS formatted. Both are 144, and I went to my computer (in XP) and right clicked on the floppy, format, and create bootable DOS disk. But this fills the disk up with files, and even when I deleted them all, it said there was not enough room for one of the two files I am supposed to copy on to it.
So, how do I make the file fit onto the floppy, and how do I write the image file to one of the floppies? In DOS? I can use linux too, if necessary. (if it's easier)
This is another one I am looking at, but basic linux looks easier to install.

I am currently trying to install Personal Brain on my Ubuntu 11.04 and I came to realise I am Linux retarded. I got used to it for about a year, but for the most part I used the Ubuntu Software Center and Synaptic Package Manager to install software and learned to manage okay. Thing is, I have used the terminal, but I don't know any of the coding or commands to generally install software being straight up downloaded form the net.

I am planning to download/install latest Ubuntu Desktop version this week. How to install additional Applications in Ubuntu in case I will need some. BTW, the old HDD I will be using is pre-installed with Debian so I need to do a "Fresh_install". I know how to use RPM in RedHat but I think in Ubuntu its a different thing. Is there any particular website to download these additional Apps?

I got a new ASUS EeePC 1015PEM with Windows 7 with the intention to install OpenSuse 11.3 onto it for having a dual booting netbook with enough disk space.I'm installing from an external DVD drive, the checksums of the ISO were ok as well. However, the OpenSuse installer fails at starting up after selecting the action. It hangs, no matter what menu entry I chose, at "loading basic drivers", forever.Because this isn't necessarily an unknown problem I've tried some of the predefined kernel options of the main installer menu. Then I tried some manually entered kernel boot options that helped me in some other installations:
acpi=off, apm=off, CPUFreq=noNone of them seem to have an effect on the installers behaviorI hope that there is people who managed to solve this problem with an actual EeePC model... because I really don't know what I could any more. It's kind of frustrating to not even get past the kernel launch I haven't tried any other distros installation discs, but I don't even intend to. I want OpenSuse because I'm running it on our firms machines as well and don't like shifting between systems.

I have moved to a new place and they expect me to work without root access to my machine, but I need to compile and make some software. However I get the following error:
mkdir: cannot create directory '/usr/local/ope': Permission denied
chmod: cannot access '/usr/local/ope': No such file or directory
mkdir: cannot create directory '/usr/local/ope': No such file or directory
chmod: cannot access '/usr/local/ope/bin': No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [/usr/local/ope/bin] Error 1
make[1]: Target '_installall' not remade because of errors.
I have been allegedly been given admin rights - but do I need root to do this?

I'm new to Linux (had some basic Unix experience in 1995 era). (Teenager) gave me HP2133 mini notebook running SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10. Everything checks good (hardware and software), even wireless networking. Problem is she apparently created Admin/root password but says cannot remember. I cannot even set correct date time... yast is asking for root privilege:
Command: /sbin/yast2 time
Is there anything I can do to re-establish administrator privilege?

I would like to install a more modern version of GNU utils (coreutils) on a debian linux system where I have no admin rights. Is there a way to do that?
The rationale is that I need a more modern version to the one installed in the system where I intend to run my analysis. I am trying to use "sort -R" or "shuf" to randomize lines in a big text file.
