My CUPS server has hung. Doesn't ask login user/pwd any more - goes straight to admin page. When I try to add printer I get an authorisation error. So unable to do any admin functions: add printers, disable Kerberos authentication etc.

In cupsd.conf I added a listen line for the client machine ip (the one I use to access cups) but no go. I also added Allow directives with this ip in the <Location> blocks. Nothing works. The dialog pops up, but will not accept my root user name or any other. I tried using lppasswd to create add root, but it just keeps failing. Don't remember having this problem with F12, but I recently upgraded to F14...
cups does not start with the server. When I try to start from the terminal I get the error message
cupsd: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf' - exiting!
cupsd: Child exited with status 1!
The log files show nothing. cupsd.conf exists. It is user - root and group - root with permissions set at 0644.
My interpretation of this is that the program is not launching from either boot or terminal for a fundamental reason. I do not quite see what that reason is .
I cannot navigate my windows network because of a unresolved issue.

The workaround is to use the IP address of the computers.
Problem is that CUPS has the printer address with the computer name as opposed to IP addresses.
CUPS will not let me manage the network printer. It asks for a user and password. My sudo name and password dont work.
I think the solution lies in the cups.conf but I am unsure how to fix it so that I can manage the printers.
I can connect to the HTTP cups interface (localhost:631) but if I need admin priviledges, giving my id/pwd doesn't work. I don't see any "cups" group defined.
Otherwise, how do I enable a printer? I could disable it using the KDE printer management interface, but I can't re-enable it using same... Answer: /usr/sbin/cupsenable

I'm trying to get DokuWiki running on Fedora 14 and Apache 2, but I run into some problem which was appearently described earlier [URL]
and seems to have gone unsolved in those threads.
I have Apache 2 running (which I can see by surfing to "localhost") and I have DokuWiki callable (which I can see by surfing to "localhost/dokuwiki").
Also, I adjusted the SELINUX context as described by [URL]
Since the DokuWiki installation is totally fresh, I should now either be able to call "localhost/dokuwiki/install.php" to do further adjustments or to call some admin.php by URL or using some button on the local DokuWiki start page.
However, none of the admin scripts is callable by URL, and there's no admin button shown on the DokuWiki start page.
When I was checking the /var/log/messages, I found these entries:

CUPS is stopped in the system and the system is configured as samba server. What could be the reason for these printing requests from smbd?
I have a printer configured on my Ubuntu server using CUPS amd made it available to the local network. The printer is recognized on my other Ubuntu machine without any problems.
But on my Suse laptop, the printer is not recognized. Using the YaST printer Configuations, I choose the option "Recieve Printer Information from Remote CUPS servers. But no printer is found.But... when I choose Do All Yout Printing Directly via One Remote CUPS server and enter the correct IP address (192.168.1.100), the printer is found andI am sure the printer info is broadcasted because it shows up on my second Ubuntu PC. Im trying to set up a print server using Fedora 12 and CUPS.
It recognized the printer, and i can print from the linux box. When i try to install it on my Win 7 64-bit box i can install the printer itself by giving it the IP address and port number of the linux box but i cant sent anything to it to print. I apologize im a little rough on the details, im not at home right now. I believe the printer i have is a HP PSC 1500. I opened the cups port on the linux firewall, and i shared the printer through the cups admin browser page.

I have several xen virtual machines but the issue is occurring only on the one of them. Sometimes (4 times per month) the server hung. I can ping this server on the network but I am not able to login to server using local console or ssh session.

I sounds like the issue is caused by some Java application. But I am not sure is this message is related to root cause or the Java is impacted as a result of issue.
Could you help me with this? I need more details regarding error message described below and I also need to identify the root cause and resolve the issue. Is there any way how to determine which Java application is causing this issue?
installed lenny and am trying to install brother dcp7010 again:
1) i can't start CUPS server with /etc/init.d/cups restart "file not found", there is a cups@ link in /etc/init.d.
2) when i install dcp7010 cupswrapper

This is frustrating because it worked in etch and worked for awhile in lenny. The dcp7010-scanner does work.
None of my daemon scripts work now, and the startup process displayed errors. Should I reinstall the OS and start from scratch, or is there a way to recover these files? Is there a way to rebuild the files I deleted?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 3 computers connected to a router; the ip addresses are assigned by the ADSL provider via DHCP. One of the 3 computer has a printer connected. In Fedora 9 I used to print from the other. 2 computers via CUPS by defining the ServerName in /etc/cups/client.conf as assigned by mDNS (the one with the .local suffix). It seems that in Fedora11 the game dos not work anymore; the connection is forbidden unless, you put the IP address of ServerName in /etc/cups/client.conf. But this is upractical because the IP address is not fixed. (DHCP) A workaround is possible because ping on the name assigned by mDNS shows the IP address; if you capture the IP address, it is possible to create /etc/cups/client.conf with the IP address at boot. (A suitable script can do the job).

When I try to run the current code, it stops on the bracket after functio() in CallFunct(). The only way I could get this to run was by removing CallFunct and just calling functio.
When power was restored after an outage, my server (running Ubuntu server 9.10) started back up & got stuck in the GRUB menu ("Version 1.97~beta 4" I think) - it didn't do that countdown & auto-select the top item like I'm used to. Just stayed there, and since the server is headless, I had to dig out my monitor & hook it up to see what was wrong.

Any ideas? I have installed the RPMs from Brother's web site for both LPR and CUPS-wrapper
we are having new printers. At the moment we over 1000 machines on multiple sites but no print server they are manually added on the machine ( I know don't ask).
Anyway there is no way they would let use a windows server so the only option I have is to use linux however I little unsure if it is capable of doing the job I need it to do. Basically I want to add the printers on the linux server either using samba or ipp (I would assume samba would be best).
The reason i want to do this is when we have to do around the machines I just want to go around the machines and just the map the printer and it brings down the driver and config etc as we want them to duplex. The issue is I been trying to gain information on the internet and getting conflicting information apparently I can add the windows driver onto the server so when I map the printer it brings it down. However some guides state you still have through the whole process of adding the printer and then choosing the driver etc. Which kinda of makes it pointless to do the printer server since I would already have to do this anyway if we don't have one.
I just want to go be able to go around the machines and for example click star run and do something like \192.168.1.1printer01 and then it done kind of thing.
I wrote a multithread program(c++,gnu gcc). it contains a main program and plugins. some functions in plugins use sleep(). Using these functions in threads cause freezing program. in other word thread sleeps but dosn't wake. How can i use sleep() in my plugin functions without this problem?

I have gotten to the point with Samba that I can view the files without a username/password from client PC's. I would like to make all the folders read only except for one which will be writable for everyone. The thing that I am having a hard time with is allowing a couple of administrators (on Windows 7 machines) read/write access for all files/folders. I am facing login issues when i try to login as admin using phpldapadmin into ldap server. Installed phpldapadmin for administering ldap server from the repository:
1)[url]
2)yum install phpldapadmin
Able to see the default phpldapadmin login page.
ldapadmin throws the error as "Bad username/password.Please try again"
But when i login as anonymous i am able to login but the web page asks whether to create the root domain?
whether anything needs to be done for making it login as admin.
